Breastfeeding Essentials!

First time Mom here.... wanting to make sure I have everything I may need to help make my breastfeeding journey a success. Has anyone used a Haakaa? What are your thoughts? I've been reading a lot of blogs where Moms are raving about them! Tell me about your success with them. I plan on returning to work after 10 weeks and will be pumping at work. However, I would like to have a supply built up in the freezer before I return to work. Any experienced moms have any tips/tricks to creating a good freezer supply? What are your breastfeeding essentials? Thank you!!!

Re: Breastfeeding Essentials!

  • If you pump after a regular feed it will boost your supply. The haakaa was a dream. I didnt know about it for the first 6 months. So much milk could of been saved!!! . Make sure at work you take the time to pump so your milk doesnt regulate since baby isnt feeding directly . Everyone overall produces differently but those are some tips to help it. I heard eating oatmeal as well. Not sure if thats true.
I was able to successfully breastfeed baby intill she was past 2. Also she wouldnt take any bottles since i started working when she was 6 months old. I still pumped at work so i wouldnt loose my supply. I would then stock my freezer and donate the milk rather than waste it.  So if you do produce more i recommend to donate. We used milk bank of florida to help feed NICU babys!

  • I didn’t have a haakaa with my first baby, but will with #2 due next month! I had very fast and heavy letdown, I could have saved soooo much. Also my body acted like I was feeding 2 babies, I produced sooooo much. I’m really excited to try out the haakaa this go around! Also there’s these things called lactation cookies, I’ve found them at Walmart, but buy baby, Carter’s, and even Walmart’s. They come different flavors, oatmeal chocolate chip, salted caramel, and oatmeal raisin are a few I’ve seen, THEY ARE DELICIOUS!!! And I swear by them.
Drink water, lots and lots of water, and lots and lots of greens!!! It helps trust me. After baby would eat I would feel sooo drained. The water and greens helped my supply and my energy levels!

I too am curious about this haakaa. This will be my third child but my first time breastfeeding. I had my first two children as a teen and breastfeeding was not easily doable for me at the time. Now fifteen years later, I am 32. I am planning to breastfeed this time around. I’m looking forward to this but also a little nervous about it. I will be taking off work for the first year so I will not need to pump a lot. However, I would like to learn to pump so that my husband can bottle feed her occasionally as she gets older. I got a spectra 2 electric breast pump free from my insurance. This manual haakaa pump sounds promising though based on reviews and sounds like it would be quick and easy to use. Is this something I should get even though I won’t be pumping much? Should I be pumping the extra milk that’s left after each feeding and storing it even if I’m not sure when or if she will be bottle feeding? I did take a breastfeeding class but I feel like there’s so much to learn. I just want to make sure I do this right. Any advice from other mamas would be appreciated.
  • I have an electric pump and a Haakaa. My goal is to use the haakaa on the breast baby is not feeding from to catch the milk from that breast, and to help me create a freezer stash. I want my husband to be able to bottle feed our daughter once I’ve established breastfeeding with her. My breastfeeding course suggested introducing one bottle feeding, at the same time each day, after about two weeks of established breastfeeding. Gradually increase the bottles as the weeks progress, and have someone other than mom give the bottle. This sounds perfect for me and my husband, so we’re going to try it. I have a breast pump mostly for when I return to work, but my course also suggested using it in between feedings to help increase my milk supply. We’ll see about that one.
