Product spotlight 6/17: rockers and gliders

Would love tips on this one! Looking to purchase a new rocker for this baby. Had an old wooden rocker with my daughter which did the job but wasn't comfortable. I have a recliner in the living room, but spent a lot of time in that hard wooden rocker in the middle of the night. MIL has offered to purchase me a new chair and keeps bugging me to pick one. Any tips?

Re: Product spotlight 6/17: rockers and gliders

  • Every church nursery I’ve ever worked in has had a padded glider with an ottoman, so that’s what I ordered from Target. 😁 I haven’t set it up or used it yet though, so I can’t get a full review on it. The thing I really missed while using our recliner for my first was that I could either rock OR put my feet up, and there were times I really wanted to do both. I ordered this one:

  • This is the one I've been looking at, but I've also been toying with the idea of going and sitting in the displays at buy buy baby so I can actually see how they feel. I have been putting it off bc of COVID but our store is back open now and I have some days off coming up that I could get out there.

  • @carrotsandpeas3 I would have gone for something like that because to me it’s nicer looking, but I was already fighting an uphill battle on convincing the hubby so I went with a cheaper option. 😁 ALTHOUGH... I made a huge mess of our recliner in the first month with all the milk I leaked and spilled and sprayed. It’s a leather recliner so it wiped up pretty easily but it makes me a little nervous for the fabric chair... shoot I didn’t think of that when ordering my own. 🤦🏼‍♀️
  • This is the rocking chair I have. I didn’t nurse much in it because I preferred sitting on the couch, but I did use it to rock DS to sleep or when he was super fussy. My only complaint is that it slid around on the carpet so this time I am going to attach something to the bottom to prevent that. We have this in the living room so I wanted something that wasn’t too big and matched the furniture we already had.
  • @baseballismyfavoriteseason I first convinced MH because we are buying very little else for this baby, and then MIL said she wanted to buy it for us. I've learned not to say no to her about things like this, because she won't let it go, so I just say yes and thank you!
  • @baseballismyfavoriteseason That's actually the same one I have on my registry lol
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • @kboydbowman I think I’ll have it set up by the end of the month and then I’ll let you know what I think. 😁 Both of us have been notified we won’t be returning to the office before we go on leave (except maybe occasionally for hubs) so we have to rearrange our workspaces to a more permanent configuration, and then I can figure out where to put the glider!
  • I’ve had both. I personally prefer the wooden style rocker over the glider for the following reasons:

-the rocking helps with contractions when labor begins
-helped soothe baby much better than the glider
-easier to get in and out of with baby because it say a bit higher than the glider
-no stains post-partum if you accidentally leak a bit
  • I have this one. It's a recliner/rocking chair/glider. I thought I wanted a recliner but the reclining part of this isn't great...so now I'm considering switching to a different chair although realistically I really don't need it.

I bought a swivel glider from Dutailier when I was pregnant with DS.  I like that it glides smoothly and it's quiet.  I spent way more than I initially had been planning to spend, but it worked perfectly in his nursery.

  • In response to the mess issue mentioned by @baseballismyfavoriteseason , this is the one currently on my registry: https://www.babyearth.com/products/foundations-lullaby-adult-glider-rocker because I like that it's fabric (I'm not big on the feeling of leather) but the fabric is all removable and machine-washable. I do like the idea of actually going to a store to try out some rockers, though; seems like such a foreign concept these days!

  • I bought a really nice upholstered glider for DD1 and hated it. It didn’t rock well and I never felt comfortable nursing. I ended up finding one almost identical to what @baseballismyfavoriteseason posted for $60 on FB marketplace like new!
