AMA check in

This is a check in for all the AMA mamas. Advanced Maternal Age is now the nice term docs use for geriatric pregnancies. So jump in here "old mamas" and anyone else.

How far along are you?
How old are you?
How are you feeling?
Any issues/concerns?
What do you love about being a mature mom-to-be?

Feeling OK so far. Just sore boobs, nausea, and some muscle stretching down low.
No real concerns. Did a Google search to confirm how the miscarriage rate drops per week and got bombarded with articles about how older moms have a higher miscarriage risk. That didn't thrill me.
I am more confident. My kids have worn me down and taught me a lot, so I feel like a seasoned veteran in some ways.

    I’ll be 37 on Wednesday
So far feeling similar to with my first. Just not much of an appetite. Sore boobs, etc
A little paranoid being older, but trying not to worry.
I guess I kinda wish I was younger, but I’ve had so much life happen that I really wouldn’t change anything. And it’s comforting knowing it’s more and more common to have kids later.

How old are you? 35, will be 36 later this summer
How are you feeling? Ok. My first Dr's appt was a bit nerve-wracking -- LOTS of talk about my age and previous losses, which definitely raised my anxiety level. I have nausea, but it's bearable. Definitely VERY tired, more so than I remember being with past pregnancies.
    Any issues/concerns? Not yet, fx.
What do you love about being a mature mom-to-be? I actually love that my kids will be 5 years apart! I used to worry about them not being close in age, but now my 4G is so independent, and I know I will be able to treasure the "baby time" with her sibling so much.

  • How far along are you? 7 weeks today as well @adorebel

How old are you? I turn 35 in August.

How are you feeling? I’m mostly just nervous. This pregnancy comes with all kinds of labels that my previous pregnancies didn’t. My biggest pregnancy symptom is still fatigue. I would love to sleep all day.

    Any issues/concerns? **TW** loss

This pregnancy comes with a repeat pregnancy loss diagnosis because I had back to back losses in November and March at 11 weeks and 8 weeks respectively. I’ve had genetic testing done and am on extra medication for a clotting disorder, and just in general, I’m up for a lot of extra monitoring. My second also came before 37 weeks so I’ll be on progesterone beginning at week 16 too. It’s my first time being labeled high risk, AMA, etc.

What do you love about being a mature mom-to-be? I guess just the experience. My oldest will be five and a half when baby arrives and that’s going to be super helpful too.

  • How far along are you? 4-5 weeks

    How old are you? 35

How are you feeling? Pretty good!

Any issues/concerns? I have a connective tissue disorder that causes joint instability and pain, so I have a lot of joint and muscle pain at baseline. I am concerned about my body’s ability to handle even more joint mobility from the hormones. I also need to exercise regularly to help control my condition and I am worried about my ability to keep it up after baby arrives.

What do you love about being a mature mom-to-be? My husband and I have been married for 10 years. We’ve been through so much and are really hitting a point of knowing how to handle anything together. I’m glad we have taken care of all of that prior to adding a baby to the mix. I also feel like I’ve hit a point where I am really confident making my own decisions based on the best evidence at hand rather than blindly following pregnancy and parenting advice, and I have no problem defending my decisions in a way I would have struggled with when I was younger.
