Baby Lullaby

So this is both a random and a question:

For each of my girls we have a song that I sing to/with them each night before bed.

DD1's song is "You Are My Sunshine"
DD2's song is "Baby Mine"

I'm looking for a new song for this baby! STM any songs you love to sing to your kiddos? FTM do you have a song that you've really connected with so far this pregnancy or want to sing with your baby once he/she is here?

Re: Baby Lullaby

  • I love to sing Skidamarink to DS!
  • Loading the player...
  • We have a bunch of Irish and folk songs that we sing with DS (along with the standard lullabies). Favorites include: Red is the Rose, The Wind that Shakes the Corn, the Auld Triangle, Dirty Old Town (The Pogues), and more that I am not thinking of.

  • I sing “Bushel and a Peck” to DD1!
  • I always sing "Sing" from Sesame Street or the Carpenters and "Our House" by Crosby, Stills, and Nash to DS.
  • I sing the entire Disney song catalog pretty exclusively. DS will know them all by heart before he even sees any of the movies! I also really like "Godspeed" by the Dixie Chicks. It's very sweet.
  • FTM and discovered “You Belong” by Rachel Platten around week 9. It’s really sweet! I sing it almost daily but not sure if it’ll be our lullaby

  • With DD1 I always sang the twilight song, I can't think of the title.
DD2 got a smorgasbord of lullaby's and still requests them frequently.

No idea what this babe will get.

  • With DD I would switch between On Top of Spaghetti, You are My Sunshine, & Skidamarink.  I'd also make up lyrics to the tune of Oh, My Darling Clementine.  My mom used to always sing Oh playmate, come out and play with me when I was growing up <3

  • I sing “Edelweiss” from Sound of Music to my DD from when she was born. She’s almost 6 now and continues to ask me to sing it to her when she is needing help to sleep or is scared or hurt.
  • I've been singing "The Garden Song" by Pete Seeger, but also lots of other people, including John Denver, lately and I think it will go into regular rotation for the baby. I had never known what it was called, but it's the one that goes "Inch by inch, row by row, we're gonna make this garden grow" and has lots of good verses.
Oh, and also John Prine's "Angel from Montgomery"

  • @hedgepig We are HUGE John Prine fans and Angel from Montgomery is definitely on my list (but DH prob will just sing Fish and Whistle, another weird choice). We got to see him perform a number of times in the last few years and I'm so glad we did since we will miss him a lot.
  • @laurenmicheley 💗 John Prine. We missed him when he played at the big festival near where we live in recent years and I will always have regrets. Definitely a big part of the soundtrack to my childhood (and adult life too).

  • For DS, I played him “Tale as Old as Time” while he was still on the inside. When he was born, he would always stop and stare when it played, so that was/is our song.💜

For DD, I sang “Baby Mine” and “What a Friend we Have in Jesus” to her all the time. 🥰

  • @crizz13 Baby Mine is such a great one! 💜
  • @hedgepig I love the garden song! I found the book first so then had to Google the song. I sang it all the time last spring with my preschool class when we were planting seeds. It's sweet to think that my baby started out as a seed and with some TLC, it too will grow :)
@1MommyRunner I enjoy singing hymns when rocking babies to sleep! Many of them have very soothing tunes (and nice words)
  • We are going to ask Cody Jinks to sing one of his songs to announce the baby’s gender to us using the Cameo App.

I’m not sure how many of you are familiar with him, but he sings country rock blues Americana and I would like your advice:

    Girl: Ladybug by Cody Jinks
Boy: Hippies and Cowboys OR Dreamed with One.

Kinda iffy on the boy ones, but DH is insistent on H&C.

Also which song by any artist would you pick for a boy and a girl?
  • @potofgolden I’m so glad you guys found someone hsing cameo! It is the coolest announcement ever! :)
For a boy, I would pick Anything Like Me from Brad Paisley
A girl, I would go with All American Girl by Carrie Underwood 💜
  • @1MommyRunner yes we are so excited! We went ahead went with Hippies and Cowboys and Ladybug.
We got a message response saying where to send the gender results so I am pretty sure he is going to do it. I got a nurse to type the response. It’s so hard not to peek!
