PGAL Check In 5/19

This thread is for anyone who has experienced loss at any point in pregnancy or experienced the loss of a child.

How far along are you?

Share your PGAL story if you'd like, or previously have not.

How are you feeling (symptoms, mentally/emotionally)?

Any upcoming appointments?

GTKY: What is your favorite/least favorite season?

Also, I’ve noticed participation in this thread going down and was just curious if everyone wanted me to continue posting it or would be ok if we stopped this thread? I do not mind either way but wanted to get everyone’s opinion.

How are you feeling (symptoms, mentally/emotionally)? -- I’m doing ok this week. Trying to stay positive.

Any upcoming appointments? — Anatomy scan in 2 weeks

GTKY: What is your favorite/least favorite season? — Favorite is fall. I love all the colors with the leaves changing, the cooler weather, and fall activities such as apple picking and bonfires.
Least favorite is summer. It just gets so hot and we don’t have AC in England. I don’t like the beach and don’t like summer clothes because I’m a bit self conscious. Really not looking forward to being so pregnant in the heat.

How are you feeling (symptoms, mentally/emotionally)? Feeling really good! Getting more and more movement, but nothing that can be felt on the outside. She moves so much though that I'm sure by 20 weeks MH will be able to feel her kicks.

Any upcoming appointments? June 10th (routine OB checkup)

GTKY: What is your favorite/least favorite season? Oh, man, this is a tough question, because we get all four seasons pretty extreme where I live (with the exception of lots of snow in winter, which we really don't get). I'd have to say that Fall is my favorite, though. As a pagan, I just feel more connected to myself and my surroundings at that time. Plus, I love sweaters and boots and scarves, the colors of the leaves, having fires in our fireplace, etc. I also love summer, going to the beach, grilling out in our backyard, 4th of July, popsicles, and hosting our annual crawfish boil with our friends. So, summer is a close second.
I'd say winter is my least favorite. That being said, I don't mind early winter, like Christmastime, but I feel like winter just draaaaaags on and on. And it gets so frigid here for long stretches of time, but no snow to make it pretty, so to me it's not 'worth it'. As a runner, I also hate how the super-cold air makes my lungs feel when I run outside, and I hate having to wear multiple layers of running clothes, too.

Also, I’ve noticed participation in this thread going down and was just curious if everyone wanted me to continue posting it or would be ok if we stopped this thread? I do not mind either way but wanted to get everyone’s opinion.

I think at this point, we could probably switch to doing a monthly PGAL check-in versus weekly. I think that's what they're switching to on the TTGP board, as well.

  • @babyodo, that’s a good suggestion. Maybe we will just keep this one to the month of May then make a new one in June.

How are you feeling (symptoms, mentally/emotionally)? I feel like I'm back to first trimester fatigue the past two weeks all of a sudden. It could be I've reached my limit of working from home with the child, or maybe depression caused by that? Not sure.

Any upcoming appointments? Anatomy scan in one week!

GTKY: What is your favorite/least favorite season? Fall is definitely my favorite. In the past I would've said summer was my least favorite, but parenting-wise I find it easier to not dress DD in layers and she can entertain herself outside so well with water activities. So my least favorite now would have to be winter.

  • I'm in favor of reducing the frequency.  We're all past the super-high risk point for further loss (although obviously it's not going to go away entirely) and I don't feel like I'm saying a lot here that I don't say in other threads.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

    20 weeks!

How are you feeling (symptoms, mentally/emotionally)? Pretty good! Baby has been moving a lot this week, which I appreciate.

Any upcoming appointments? OB on 5/22 for a blood pressure check.

Personally my risk of loss isn’t any less now, and if I’m recalling correctly from our intro posts, several of us had later losses. I’d still like to see a monthly PGAL thread, but agree there probably isn’t enough participation for weekly.

How are you feeling (symptoms, mentally/emotionally)? Good physically, no unpleasant symptoms aside from anxiety.

Any upcoming appointments? I had my anatomy scan today. Baby measured a week ahead. Had an angel ultrasound tech who showed me the HB first thing because I was such a mess.

My hospital is resuming normal operations so I can have more frequent ultrasounds and growth scans going forward.

GTKY: What is your favorite/least favorite season?

Summer is my favorite, Winter is my least. I like to be outside and hate driving in snow. Agree with @profmcgonagall that I’m not looking forward to being super pregnant in the heat of summer though.

  • @Kurtni, I’m definitely planning on still doing the monthly thread as my chance of loss is still very high as well. Unfortunately,  I think quite a few of our later loss moms have left the group.
I still like this thread and chatting with ladies who get it. I’ll make it every month even if we are the only ones who participate.

  • I’m fine with weekly or monthly check-ins.

@Kurtni they should always look for the heartbeat first! Seriously. Helps my anxiety so much.

I think because my loss was so late (36 weeks), I never really feel “safe” during pregnancy. I’ve been feeling especially anxious today, for some reason, even though the baby has been moving a ton.
