My WTF:
Looks like I'm going to be job searching the end of this week

Work cut all hourly personnel's hours to 30 hours/week and had us apply for unemployment. Had our first 30 hour week starting May 4th, applied, filed the first weekly claim, and none of us qualify for unemployment because we each make more than the weekly benefit allows for. I'd have to work like less than 15 hours/week for it to pay out anything. So now the "idea" is to work a 40 hour week, followed by a week off, 40 hour week, followed by a week off for the foreseeable future. As it is we haven't even had enough work for 30 hours/week. I know this isn't as bad as some people are going through, but yikes on bikes. I'm the ONLY income in my household at the moment. We cannot survive on that and totally freaking out about job searching while pregnant with twins.

@lurvleybunchococonuts ughhh, that sounds like a mess! I'm so sorry you are dealing with that. Is it just while COVID is going on or more of a permanent thing?

@bserena I honestly don't know, it's definitely our "slow" season to start with, but it is scary slow with COVID going on. My boss was in the building for a meeting this AM (her internet doesn't like to do online meetings apparently) and I told her I'm gonna be job searching and she 120% understands. She was actually surprised I hadn't started already! I'm certain it'll bounce back eventually, but who knows how long that'll take. They told us to expect the reduced hours to continue at least through June and possibly the entire summer.

My WTF is how did our summer camp get put into phase 3 of the reopening plans, which will take another 5ish weeks, I’m assuming, and my boss wants me back at work Monday. What am I supposed to do with my school aged kids who are too young to be home alone?????

ETA - I don’t have family local to assist. SOs mom helps where she can but she works in a hospital and hasn’t stopped working through any of this and also still has to work.

@ecat504 Oh no! Do you have any friends nearby that will still be working from home that maybe wouldn't mind watching them for you? That's such a tough situation! Bring the kids with you!

@lurvleybunchococonuts it’s usually a kid friendly office but the boss has a new baby at home so he doesn’t want any extra bodies in the building, which I 100% understand and respect. But also ....... All of my friends are in the same boat as me (they’re all either coworkers or moms from summer camp / school). We’re all just trying to figure out what we’re going to do.

Looks like we’re going to have to proposition our bosses to give us each one day a week off until phase 3 and alternate watching everyone’s kids. Which does not sound like something I’m up for but looks like my options are limited right now.

@Ecat504That is definitely not something I'd WANT to do lol, but hopefully will be a good alternative for the time being. I hope you guys can come up with a good plan!

We just had a power outage in the middle of my evening TV.... guess we'll go to bed early tonight🤷‍♀️

@mimser thats the worst! We live in the city and get power outages way too often and it always sucks.

WTF to my husband’s aunt. She’s an interesting lady to say the least. When we sent our announcements around to family yesterday her response was “I’m so happy for all of us.” I just cracked up. Yes, congrats to everyone 😂.

My WTF is just my overall crappy night!! My poor little kitty (he was feral and we rescued him) got neutered and had his shots yesterday...well today his face was completely swollen almost to the point that he could barely open his eyes! I noticed how bad it was at like 10pm and tried to get some Benadryl in him but that was NOT happening so I ended up getting the kids up and taking him to the emergency vet to be seen. My husband works nights which is why I had to get the kids up to go. They ended up giving him some medication and keeping him overnight. I’ve dropped about $500 on this cat this week! Oh well, he’s worth it! I’m hoping he’s going to be ok, he was majorly freaking me out but the vet reassured me that he should be fine in the morning. I ended up coming home and taking a bath to calm my nerves down. I have had the worst headache all day and this just made it so much worse. Also my husband took my car to work because his truck needs gas and he didn’t have time to go fill it up this evening, so I had to take his stupid truck that I HATE driving and I’m not used to. On our way home a cop passed me and told me that my parking lights were on and not my headlights, I felt so stupid but luckily he just watched me fix it and told me to have a good night lol. Like I said, I’m not used to driving his dumb truck lol! My mind was elsewhere so I didn’t even notice that the lights weren’t very bright 😂

@kitkatz1990 oh no! I have had my share of midnight emergency vet runs

and man it always costs an arm and a leg, but what else do we do? Hoping kitty is doing much better this morning and that you were able to at least get some sleep!!

@bserena @mimser thanks!! Kitty is ok, still can’t go pick him up because they want the dr to look at him again. His face is still swollen but his vitals are all good so they’re going to call me with the plan later. I didn’t get much sleep but I’ll just take a nap in a little while.
