Placenta previa

Hi everyone. I'm 23 weeks along and found out today that I have complete placenta previa.  I've been looking at some of the risks that go along with it and have only managed to make myself more worried. I know I'm not suppose to lift more than 12 pounds, but have a toddler nearing two, that I have to occasionally lift which has made the news all the more difficult. I was wondering if anyone here has had complete previa and has had to have a c-section, and what the recovering was like, the experience...etc.

@mgpoem2012 I have complete placenta previa as well and am 23 weeks. I’ve been told it moves for most women so I’m trying not to stress till I get it rechecked in a few weeks. I’ve been on pelvic rest but as far as lifting Goes.. I have a needy 37lb toddler who needs to be held sometimes for comfort so I gotta do what I gotta do. I haven’t had any spotting so I feel like I haven’t pushed anything to far. It’s odd that I’m normally prone to tons of anxiety with this pregnancy but for some reason I’m not stressed over the previa. I’ve always wanted a natural delivery but took the news of potential c-section rather well because end goal is to get baby out and have both a healthy baby and mom. Stay strong! You got this!

  • Thankyou so much for replying! I haven't had any spotting yet either (hopefully won't ever because of the previa) fingers crossed it will correct itself enough for a smooth delivery,  in both of our cases.
  • I don’t have previa but mine is low lying i think she said 2cm from the cervix. They are fairly convinced it will move and explicitly said not to google lol. I hope it corrects itself! My dd1 was a vaginal birth and pretty easy recovery. They did not give me any restrictions.

  • I had placenta previa at my 20 week scan. I had to go back this past week, 24 weeks, and it’s already resolved. Fingers crossed yours will move!
  • Hi ladies, I did have placenta previa with my first baby who is 9 now, only partial. I was 18 turning 19 at the time, full time student, and a waitress so I was constantly on the go. I don’t recall any restrictions that my doctor gave to me other than to listen to my body nap when feeling tired, take the elevator instead of stairs at college, and to put my feet up on my breaks. I’m from a small town, my doctor has pretty much delivered everyone here lol so I just trust him and take his word. My last ultrasound was at 36 weeks to see if it had moved and it had not so I was scheduled for a c-section. Everything went very smoothly, I think because it was a planned c-section it wasn’t as scary, to me at least. At my last appointment before my c-section they did go over the whole process with me. I wasn’t able to eat anything after 11pm the night before and was to arrive at my hospital at 6am. They took me, my husband, and both our moms up to my room, I changed into the gown they monitored baby, went over that only one person was allowed in the OR and that after baby is born only parents for the first 2 hours. The anesthesiologist came to talk to me and explain the medication and check to see if I had any allergies or question, side effects from the spinal block and that was it doctor was in a meeting so we ended up waiting until around 9am my daughter was born at 9:35. I’m not sure if this happens with vaginal births because I’ve only had c-sections (I’m guessing it probably does) but after right after it seems the nurses come in your room and have to feel your stomach, help push the gas and blood clots I’m assuming ahh that is awful especially after a c-section they made me cry everytime they did it.  It’s major surgery obviously so just have to take it one day at a time, let people help you, and enjoy your new baby. I did stay 3 days in the hospital which I think is pretty standard. I remember sneezing shortly after at home and that did make me cry. I think the hardest part other than walking shortly after was trying to go number 2. I have since had a total of 3 c-sections and my 4th and final in August.
