Urinary Retention in Pregnancy?

Has anyone ever experienced “urinary retention” in a previous pregnancy? Or even this one?

Trying not to worry too much but Dr. Google says that’s exactly what’s happening, especially in the first trimester of pregnancy. It’s happened multiple times now over the last week- I go to pee and nothing will come out despite me knowing I really have to pee. It happened twice one day last week then all of a sudden it was totally fine so I told myself if it happened again it’s time to call my doctor, so it’s happening this morning and I will be calling as soon as they open.

But I’m reading it could be as “simple” as a blockage or something to do with my uterus and the way it’s growing. Ugh. I never experienced this with my other two pregnancies.

  • I have never experienced this or even heard of it, but it definitely sounds like something you and your doctor should discuss. Let us know what they say!

  • Could definitely be a UTI, so call your doctor! I get them all the time in pregnancy and they can have some off the wall symptoms in pregnancy!

It’s really the weirdest thing and it only happens in the morning.

I just had an ultrasound (baby looks amazing thank goodness) and am waiting to see the doctor.

  • Please keep us posted on what happens, hopefully they are able to help! We do have a thread called May symptoms you should post there to get more responses.
  • So apparently I have an extremely retroverted uterus and it’s blocking my bladder. So that’s fun. The OB tried to manually correct it (ouch) but it’s just too retroverted. So I have to do some specific positioning over the next few days to hopefully help correct it.

I had no clue that my uterus was retroverted, it never came up in my prior pregnancies!
