Re: Weekly Workouts & Mindfulness 5/8-5/14

  • What physical workouts are you doing?
Running when the weather is nice, walking when it isn't. Also power yoga. I used to be a big gym person, but everything is closed around here. And it's not like I want to be the first person back at the gym when they open...

What are you doing for your mental health?
I've basically been "on strike" at work this week. Doing the bare minimum needed to get by. Homeschooling + working + dealing with everything was getting to be too much, and I needed something to give. I'm feeling a lot better now than I was at the beginning of the week when I had a total meltdown about a broken printer (which was just the last straw with everything going wrong).

What mindfulness practices are you doing?
I've been meditating for awhile now. ~175 days in a row, according to Headspace. It makes a big difference.

Do you have any questions for the board?
Does anyone have a meditation app that they love? I've been using Headspace but wonder if there are others that are better.

  • @notvincent Broken printers are the WORST. They always make me think of Office Space and just smashing it to bits! I do the mediation on Peloton to go to sleep pretty often :)

What physical workouts are you doing? Sticking with Peloton, I've been sticking with 30 minute classes and just going for music I enjoy. I'm trying to stick to every other day and at least do a 2+ mile walk on days I don't spin.

What are you doing for your mental health? Just trying to maintain a balance, worry about what I have control over and forget the rest. I think I'll feel much better after my first scan Monday. I'm either going to Costco after to stock up or coming home and getting drunk if it's not good. Keeping it real!

What mindfulness practices are you doing? I'm really focusing on being as patient as possible with my 4YO. I know this isn't easy on him either and he's just being 4.

Do you have any questions for the board? Not today.
  • What physical workouts are you doing?:
Toning 3 days a week (arms and booty).
    Walking on my lunch break.
    Yard work on the weekends.

What are you doing for your mental health?:
Meal planning healthy meals and eating them! I have been slowing down in general. Doing things without music or the TV on, embracing quiet.

What mindfulness practices are you doing?:
I listen to Eckhart Tolle audio books, focus on things I appreciate, I'm also working on letting go of judgment and excessive, repeative thoughts.

Do you have any questions for the board?: Nope. Just hope everyone has a great Mother's Day weekend!!!
  • Haven’t worked out in over 2 weeks! My energy is finally coming back and nausea is subsiding. I told my H I want to get on the Peleton today. I hope I do!

  • @willashbaby YES! OMG. That's also how I felt about my breastpump after being done pumping for my second kid. It looks like I'll be starting that up again in a few months, though.
  • What physical workouts are you doing?
walking 5-10km every day! Yoga and Pilates’s

What are you doing for your mental health?
being kind to myself. I’ve worked very hard all my life to stay in shape and although I’ve only gained 2 pounds so far my body is already drastically changing and sometimes that’s hard!

What mindfulness practices are you doing?
I use the meditation app Expectful. It’s specifically for pregnancy and I LOVE it for anytime or going to sleep or doing it with the husband!

Do you have any questions for the board?
im still weighing between buying the bump method prenatal Pilates or Hannah bowers healthy mama healthy baby’s guide! Anyone wanna do one with me? I’m leaning towards the bump method because it’s one video a week to ADD to your routine and helps with diastasis recut, birth, and post partum!
  • What physical workouts are you doing?
I’m trying to do my Peloton workouts more often/again. Today was the first day I have been able to workout since finding out I was pregnant. I’ve been dealing with awful nausea and horrible dizziness. I’m hoping to get back up to 4-5 times a week like I was pre pregnancy.

What are you doing for your mental health?
getting more alone time/time to read really helps.

Do you have any questions for the board?
are you ladies keeping your heart rate below a certain level?
  • @bearmomma1 today was the first day I made it on the Peloton in probably 3 weeks. It took way more out of me than I expected but it felt good. I hope you are able to get on too!

  • Do you have any questions for the board?
are you ladies keeping your heart rate below a certain level?
No, I don't really worry too much about it. Pregnancy is making me WAY out of breath. Like, walking up the stairs leaves me gasping sometimes. I just listen to my body and do what I've always done. I figure now isn't the time to be setting PRs or anything, but, since I've always worked out a lot, I figure I'm probably okay.

Thank you! I was working out pretty consistently before. I did a 15 minute low impact ride today and I struggled almost the whole time. I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing.
  • @mrspants0809 everyone's max heart rate if is different based on their own physical fitness. I always wear a HRM and just "listen to my body". I used to be able to crank it at around 175 during HIIT but now I feel that same level of effort around 160 so I level it off around there. I don't let myself get breathless.
  • @willashbaby thanks! That’s basically what I did yesterday. I just remember reading something last time I was pregnant (early 2014) about keeping heart rate below 140/150ish but I wasn’t really working out much then so I don’t even know if I am remembering that accurately.
  • I managed the 30 minute Pink ride today, it was harder than I was expecting! I was able to keep up but just barely. After that I actually cleaned the house for awhile (it needed it). At this point I'm counting that as exercise as well  :D Tomorrow I'm hoping to do a deeper clean in the kitchen and our bedroom.
  • I did a Cody 20 minute pop ride and it was much easier today and the 15 minute ride I did last week. I definitely think it has to do with instructor and music on how difficult it feels.

@willashbaby that Pink ride can be intense not pregnant- I struggled when I took it a few months ago.
  • I’ve found an app called Luna mother co and they have pregnancy specific workouts from barre to yoga to weights and there is a free 7 day trial then it’s $25 a Month! I’m planning on starting my free trial next Thursday when I have 6 days off!
