Product Spotlight 5/6: Belly Bands/Support

This weeks product spotlight is all about belly bands/support!! Feel free to use the prompts or just type away! Links/photos welcome.
I snagged a schedule that's been used I think by a few BMBs now, but if you guys want to add/change anything let me know!!

This is a place for FTMs to ask questions about, S+TMs to share their prior experience with, and everyone to share what they're eyeing in the world of maternity, baby and postpartum products. Each week we'll spotlight a new category of product to help streamline and make it easier to look back and reference!

Re: Product Spotlight 5/6: Belly Bands/Support

  • I'm not sure if I am going to get one prior to having him but I definitely want to try to get some sort of support for afterwards to help. Anyone had either kind? What would you recommend?
  • Loading the player...
  • I had both before and after with DS I bought them at motherhood maternity. I don’t think they carry the brand I bought anymore because looking they are way more then I paid lol.

    This is looks like it:

NEOtech Care Maternity Belt - Pregnancy Support - Waist/Back/Abdomen Band, Belly Brace (Beige, Size L) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GO2Q8ZS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_i5YSEbAYFNDKA

Not seeing the postpartum one but I didn’t use it a lot because it was uncomfortable
  • I used one during pregnancy to help with my pelvic pain. I think I got it from Target and it didn't help whatsoever.  I never used one post partum.  I'm afraid to spend money on one now because money is tight so if anyone knows of a good one. They one I had slid around too much so was not useful.
  • @ktholysz that's not a bad price for one! do you wear it under or over your clothes? There's some brands i've seen ads for the postpartum ones but I don't know if they're worth the money or not.
  • @greyl I wore it over
  • Well, I went a bit nuts and already went and bought this one from Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0113WE0QS/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_7Z4SEb7S8WNF3
Doesn't have quite as many reviews as the one @ktholysz mentioned, but around the same rating overall and it looks simpler to put on lol.
It's not going to get here until Monday but as soon as I can get a feel for how it works and if it helps I'll make a follow-up! Really excited to get it because my back is killing me 😩

  • I have the "Be Band" which is lighter support than the bands posted by @raesky1111 and @ktholysz and probably won't be enough in a few weeks/months. But it's helpful for now and the price is right!

For PP I got the Belly Bandit. Truthfully, I don't remember wearing it much - I think shrinking my tummy was not on my mind 😆 and like others said, it was a bit uncomfortable. I still have it though and may use it again if inspiration strikes.
  • I never had a pregnancy support belt but did use a postpartum girdle. I have the Bellefit Corset. It is not very comfortable, but I didn’t expect it to be. It helped provide substantial support as I felt like my core muscles were complete shot. Without the support it felt like my insides were swimming around in my abdomen and my back didn’t have enough support. https://www.bellefit.com/product/corset/
    Pregnancy TickerDS1 8/15
    DS2 5/17
    #3 Due 9/20
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @raesky1111 come back and update once you've tried it! Curious to hear how you like it!
@louise_belcher Those are the kind of supports I was thinking about getting for postpartum, especially if I will end up needing a c-section. But they're kinda pricey so I don\t want to end up not wearing it. Ugh decisions.

I love the mamastrut...I already bought a set for this pregnancy. It was amazing after my c/s with the twins.

    • Individual (e.g., lifestyle) factors that might influence your choice: I work outside in the summer...it’s gonna be HOT! Lots of windshield time too so need something comfortable to ride around in.
    • Favorite belly bands/support:I didn’t have one last pregnancy. I just bought the same one as @raesky1111 - the azmed
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): $25 ish
    • What you like and don't like about it: it’s light weight but the Velcro sits at my spine. It doesn’t rub but it does feel like it’s “pulling” on my lower back. I usually don’t make it through the day before I have to take it off and give my back a break.
    • Any special features? (Comfort, safety, convenience, aesthetic, etc) breathable material
    • Is there a belly band/support you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?: I bought just a plain Jane post partum girdle from Walmart with the last kid. Not super comfortable or discrete and it kept folding over where my hips narrowed to my waist. Need better options for postpartum with this kid.
    • Additional thoughts on belly bands/supports?: I conceal carry regularly and use a belt holster that actually happens to do the job of a support band pretty well. It’s Velcro hits me at 10 o’clock on my belly (belly button being noon) and is really comfy.  My only complaint is that it’s hot compared to my Azmed.
  • My Azmed came in and I've had a few days to try it at work, so now I'm back to share my initial thoughts-
I have no idea how tightly I'm supposed to wrap this thing or if I'm going low enough on the stomach but I think I am. As for tightness, I'll start off as tight as I can comfortably make it and then I adjust it as needed throughout my day. Need to figure out how to get it to stop riding up but it's either not tight enough or I need to specifically wear it under my shirt and pants.
I think it actually has done something for support and pain though, I noticed after these few days of use that I'm not quite as sore anymore when I wake up and just in general.
  • @raesky1111 I wear mine under my clothes and it doesn’t ride up much.

I just ordered the NeoTech. Last time I had the AZMed, and it helped but I always wanted something more. The ligament thing always gets to me so much.

I had an after one (I think just from Target, can't remember the brand) I agree it was useful in feeling like it kept things in place in the beginning, but it became uncomfortable. And in those days that discomfort was not on my list of things to deal with, so I didn't wear it for long.
  • @pghren let me know what you think of NeoTech. I’m kinda starting to wish my Azmed did more as well.

@corngirl I've worn it once so far, but it does feel like it does more. My midwives also says that they could order me a medical grade one
  • I’m curious about wearing something like this post c-section? I know that csection panties or something like this are recommended but I never got around to it last time and I was wondering if anyone here has tried it? I’m scared of the ones that look like spank you have to pull up. I was really freaked out by my incision last time and lived in constant fear of somehow opening it up.
