This weeks product spotlight is all about rocking chairs/gliders!! Feel free to use the prompts or just type away! Links/photos welcome.
I snagged a schedule that's been used I think by a few BMBs now, but if you guys want to add/change anything let me know!!

Each week we'll spotlight a new category of product to help streamline and make it easier to look back and reference!

Re: Product Spotlight 4/17: Rocking Chairs/Gliders

  • My question for STMs+....would you say a rocking chair/glider is a must have?
  • Loading the player...
  • I still use my glider in my 4 year old sons room; it’s like a chair style full arms and back with an ottoman. I sit there now to change him since standing or getting on the floor is a pain while pregnant. We read in it together and sometimes snuggle before bed if he wants to. I used it quite a bit with him as an infant and I’ll plan to get a new one for the new baby’s room.
  • Put all of the focus of your search on comfort. You’ll need a chair you can sit in for hours at a time comfortably, especially if you decide to breastfeed. I’m telling you the back pain and nerve pain are not going to get better for a long time after baby.
  • @greyl I would say yes!

I still use my glider to nurse and rock my almost 2 1/2 year old. DH has always used it to rock her.

We have one that came with a rocking ottoman but almost ever use that. I think I might have used it occasionally when she was a newborn but it’s hard to rock while your feet are up. We got a fairly cheap one off Amazon and it has held up great over the years. We will move it to the nursery once we get that set up.
  • With my first I had one of those wooden ones w/ a cushion and ottoman that are really popular -- but it just wasn't comfy and I found that I didn't really use it much.  With my second I didn't have anything and really wished I did.  Even up until she was at least 2 it would have been helpful.  I will definitely have one this time around.  I plan to get a recliner from a furniture store. Comfort being the key factor when shopping.
  • I HIGHLY recommend getting a rocker than can recline.  I have the Pottery Barn Comfort Rocker/swivel chair and while I love it, I wish they had the recliner version when I had my first in ‘15. There are so many nights or early mornings when baby would fall back asleep in arms and I’d give anything to recline back too for more comfortable position!  Good luck everyone, don’t skimp out on this- will be used for many years especially if you plan on having more children.  Lots of reading done in ours! 🙂
  • IMO a glider of some kind is a must if you have the means and space. If you have it, you will spend so much time in it. Like others I wish ours reclined. I am glad it swivels. Also the gliding ottoman is a waste of space and money. It is an unwanted ab workout to try to have both rock at the same time. Our ottoman got moved to the side and then out of the room after a while. I will likely get a puff to use in its place for this baby. I included a pic of ours when we still had a nursery set up. It was from Babies R Us.

Agreed with @Louise_Belcher on the ottoman, I used mine from time to time but now it sits on the side of the room and holds blankets. I will be getting a pouf for next baby. I’m sorry I don’t know how to spoiler and tried to attach so had to edit.
  • I definitely want to get one but I’ll have to shop around because I know they can be $$$! It’s one of the things I would splurge on but I don’t know if we will have the means since we plan on moving very soon and that will be a huge expense in itself. If anyone has any links or knows of comfortable yet somewhat affordable ones please lmk!!
  • We got a rocking swivel chair that is very cushy and comfy. We got it from babies r us so not available now, but I do recommend looking for comfort. I spend so much time in that chair. Someone suggested getting a rocking recliner from lazy boy. We went and looked at them, so comfortable, but my husband didn’t like the idea for some reason. In hindsight, I wish I had. It cost the same amount and who cares his opinion. I was the one sitting in that chair all through the night with my boobs hanging out for years on end!
  • @robinj716 That is exactly the look I was thinking. If our rocker was grey (I wish it was) that is exactly what I would get. As for spoiler you can add one by pressing the third option at the top between italic and emoji and selecting spoiler at the bottom. 🙂

  • I already have a chair I think I'm going to stick in the nursery just because I have it and it's comfortable enough that I think I'll survive, and worst case scenario I can put on throw blankets and pillows to make it more comfy if needed. As it is, there's already a pillow that I sit on that does me just fine!
I have no idea what actual kind of chair it is but it's got these huge pockets on the sides that'll be good for holding things. Photo attached under the spoiler (thanks for the crash course on how to do it! 😅)

  • This is the one I just put on my registry. I feel like I could go cheaper but I wanted something more sturdy so H could sit in it too and I wanted a recliner. But if no one gets it for us we might have to go cheaper anyway 😂 this one has had decent reviews.

  • We got this chair for the twins and I love it.

You get to choose the fabric! Only downside is it took 2 months to get ours so you have to plan ahead. I probably should have bought two because they both love it. I will be buying another one soon for this baby to keep in my bedroom.

  • We’ve had our glider for 7 years and it’s still going strong. Came with a rocking ottoman and I do use it when nursing. When I’m no longer nursing the ottoman goes into a closet and the chair is used for bedtime stories.
  • We love our glider. Most people recommended a recliner but to be honest I love the glider. It’s comfortable and fits our space. Definitely get some type of rocker/glider/recliner.
  • A bit of a rant: H was going back and forth with me today about getting one. He doesn’t think it will be necessary and that we can put the money to something else ☹️ so I guess we will see. his argument was if we can live without one why get one. I get it but it’s still disappointing that I can’t have things that will make my life easier. I’m already compromising on a LOT. Like putting the cheapest yet still positively reviewed items on the list. such is life I suppose.
  • Funny story.. I had a lovely one picked out that my mom was going to get us with our first— it would’ve last through all of the babies. Just as she was headed out (the store was 45 mins away) I went into labor. I ended up just doing with our living room recliner and kick myself to this day. We got a glider at a garage sale and re-did it with kiddo #2.. and it’s not great... and between #2 and #3 I’ve probably spent nearly half my life in the darn thing.  :D I really would love to splurge and get myself a nice one knowing how much time I spend in it, but we are 90% sure this is our last so I can’t really justify spending that kind of money now.. so if anyone finds any good bargains in a great chair, let me know!!
  • I can’t decide if we will buy a new chair/register for one. For our DS we have a recliner in his room and one in our living room that were actually my grandparents (sadly they both passed away in the year before DS came to us :() they are old chairs but comfortable enough! I HIGHLY recommend a recliner. DS was not a good sleeper for awhile... DH and I would pretty much split the night in two shifts holding him in the recliner because he only let us put him down for like 2-3 hours for the first month or two. So the recliner was a life saver. I hardly ever slept in it while holding him because I personally don’t feel that is safe but it was so much more comfortable than sitting up for hours at a time would have been. Gliding rocking chairs are comfy and when we move someday I’d be perfectly content with those in toddler/preschooler rooms for snuggles and book time but for the baby phase I just feel having a recliner somewhere in the house is so nice.
  • @greyl maybe ask your husband if he’d be ok checking out discount furniture or even thrift stores or online like Letgo or Facebook market place for a recliner in decent shape? Like I said ours were my grandparents and I have no idea how old they are they’re certainly worn in lol but still way better than not having one! I’m sure the $600 brand new ones are fantastic but anything is better than nothing 😂
  • @greyl I was trying to accept not having one as well, but then we found a used glider rocker with rocking stool for $20.  I'll have to reupholster it but so much cheaper than I thought I'd have to spend. Hopefully you can find something to make do.
  • We have a used glider rocker in the nursery. I found that for middle of the night feedings I ended up going to our living room and sitting in the lazy boy. It was pretty much my exclusive nursing chair when home. It was a lot more comfortable than the glider but I still liked having the glider in the nursery for pre-bedtime feedings. When we weaned my son I couldn’t sit in the lazy boy for like a month lol
  • We have a rocking chair that I purchased from a friend. I liked having the ability to nurse there (it is in our living room) and it swivels 360 degrees which is nice because we have an open floor plan and I could stay engaged in the conversation. The only regret I have (and why I am seriously considering replacing it) is that it isn't a lounge chair. There were many nights where H and I fell asleep in that chair because Liam would only sleep there, in our arms. I'm thinking that a barcalounger-type recliner would be so much more practical.
