1st Trimester

Could I be pregnant 10 weeks postpartum?

I had unprotected sex 11 days ago. We did the pull out method which I realize doesn’t always work. I exclusively pump for my daughter. Yesterday I noticed very light, dark colored spotting. I also have sore nipples. It just reminded me of implantation bleeding I had with my last 2 pregnancies. Is it actually possible this soon after giving birth. I have not had a postpartum period yet.

  • It’s absolutely possible. One of our friends has a breastfeeding pull out method child. I hope everything works out the way you’d like.

It could also be your PP period. Only a pregnancy test will tell you for sure.

  • Do you know how long I should wait to take a test to check?
  • It takes 8-10 days for implantation, and a day or so for enough hormone to build. Sperm can remain in your body for up to 5 days though. So  - You could test now, and if it's negative, retest in a week. If it's still negative you are probably in the clear.

  • Take one now. If it’s negative, take one in 2 weeks. If you’re trying to get pregnant, think about temping. If you’re not, look into a more reliable birth control method.
