Re: Product Spotlight 4/11: Newborn Clothing
Target brand Cloud Island Sleepers are my absolute favorite. They have a reverse zipper which is super nice for diaper changes.
Also Halo sleep sacks my son slept in them every night and transitioned to a sleep sack. Which he is 2.5 years old and still sleeps in a sleep sack lol.
Has anyone ever used the sleep gowns? Like of course I’m sure we all see the Lou Lou and Company sleep gowns. I’m wondering if you loved them? I found another brand (Shop WillaB) and they were much more affordable. I thought I’d try two.
I preferred sleepers because they are just easier but I had a baby in a Nebraska winter (ie bitter cold) and now I’ll be having one at the end of a Nebraska summer (ie like the fires of the sun only humid) so it will be a whole new ballgame. Zippers good. Buttons less so.

He was a summer baby (June) so he hung out in sleepers when it was cooler, but mostly onesies or just his diaper because it was so stinking hot. I had some little shorts for him for when we went out but the kid basically didn't wear pants for like 3 months lol.
I liked Carters brand, and if you're in Canada Joe Fresh is awesome especially if you've got a baby with skinny limbs. DS has basically no fat on his arms and legs so they were awesome.
I wasn't a big fan of baby Disney stuff. They all seemed to fit really weird.
I have a lot of Jumpin' Bean which must be from my mom since it seems to be a Kohls brand (she works there) and it's pretty okay, lots of cute stuff.

I'm trying to find a really cute newborn outfit (there was this one on Amazon with whales on it but unfortunately that's not available right now and I'm not sure it will be again) for coming home, but that's the only outfit I think I'm really going to splurge on, the newborn photos and the coming home photos. Might check out the expensive brands to see if there's anything I like!
@greyl I have a set of Lou Lou top and bottoms I bought on a warehouse sale. They feel a little thin. Could be why it was on sale lol. Sleep sacks they gave me one at the hospital and then I had two more. It really depends on how spitty the baby is. Outfits wise I’d have to count. I know for sure he worn newborn for two weeks. But he spit up a lot so I had to change him a lot. I’d start with at least 3 sleepers, 3 outfits and a going home outfit if you’d like. Targets clothes are so cute and you can normal buy in a multi pack too. Buy some baby bandannas too in case your baby is spitty too lol
And now we're having already having problems finding shirts that fit his shoulders and over his gigantic head 😂

Definitely have some newborn sizes, I like the 0-3 month size because they are smaller and you get more wear out of them. My boys were both bigger (8.11 and 9.9). My first fit in three newborn outfits that we had for a week and my second never wore newborn.
I like having a white onesie under all outfits since my kids were fall and winter babies. This is also helpful with blowouts. The plain onesie gets ruined and not necessarily the cute outfit.
We used halo swaddles with my first, but my second hated the swaddle.
And yes, I plan to be almost entirely secondhand for at least the first year if not longer depending on my child's growth rate. In Oklahoma we have a store called once upon a child that sells inexpensive gently used clothes up to I think about the average ten year old sizes so it'll be a great way to go once this whole virus mess clears up! Another avenue I'm planning on exploring is setting my dad and stepmum loose on garage sales once they can start again! They have like 20 something step grandchildren so they're experts at finding good used baby and children clothes at garage sales.
@greyl the amount of clothes really depends on the kid. Some babies have diaper explosions a few times a day and some spit up after every feeding (bibs only helped us a little). Because the twins were small when they were born they wore a onesie and a sleeper during the day (otherwise they were too cold). Sometimes we had to change them 3-4 times a day. So I would tell you to get at least 6 onesies and 6 sleepers unless you plan to constantly do laundry. As far as sizing start with 3 month and towards the end of your pregnancy when you have an idea of weight maybe get smaller clothes. We started with 0-3 and some newborns...but they were 4lb 10oz when we brought them home and I had to buy some premie clothes...which they were in for at least a month. On the other hand one of my sister's kids was 11lb at birth and went straight into 3-6 month clothes.
And just to give you a glimpse of a possible future...the twins are 17 months and we change their clothes 2-3 times a day, not including PJs (I don't even bother with cute outfits; they pretty much stay in carter rompers or t-shirts/onesies and stretchy pants). They are just messy! I wash their stuff every 2 days or so, so I try to have about 10 outfits each (6 sleepers each for PJs) just in case.
