@Ecat504 yes! I am NOT a fan of switching letters in a name just to make it different. Names can be unique without a made up spelling.

Eta: along the name thread, I dislike appropriating names if you are not of that specific culture. If it's part of your (or your child's father's) heritage/culture, I'm all for it, but if not pick a different name please. (Example: naming your child something like Leilani when your child is in no way Hawaiian).

  • If you don't drink coffee (or some form of coffee/espresso based beverage) I side eye your sanity.
So I’m a sucker for a good sbux caramel macchiato, but I don’t drink coffee everyday and would spring for a red bull first anytime.

  • @Ecat504 oh lord... Redbull reminds me of college and bad life choices 🤢 how do you function in the AMs sans coffee? 😳

  • @Ecat504 I can't even take the smell of Redbull. Coffee is life!

The crazy names/spellings people come up with drive me insane. I just saw a on FB a friend of a friend named her daughter Pystol! PYSTOL!!! Not only is Pistol not a name to begin with they thought adding a Y would be a good idea.

While I agree that pets are not the same as children... I would call them members of your family though. I know a few people who do not or cannot have children but have pets and I wouldn't question their love.

  • I don't get maternity photoshoots. There's no good reason to stand in a field dressed in nothing but a large piece of satin fabric (I am scarred by one of my cousin's second maternity photoshoot). Get a nice family or couple picture sure, but some of these ballroom gowns in an outdoor location are just... no.

@Ecat504 my BFF and I have a text chain where we make fun of stupid baby names...we live in the South and see a looooot of Mykynleighs and Emmaleighs and such. Bless those babies.

ETA I have a personal vendetta against these names because I’m usually the one who has to teach them how to write it!
  • @mimser lololol I feel the same way! I’m not into the maternity pics and I almost always think they look lame...I felt dumb enough doing my bridal photos and they are hidden away from sight on a flash drive in a drawer somewhere...there is no way I could take myself seriously enough to take maternity pics in a flowy gown and flower crown lol
  • I definitely agree with all about the extra y's and "unique" spellings... I can't imagine why anyone thinks it is a good idea to give your kid the name "bryttleighaynne" or some other ridiculous letter combo.
  • UO: I like maternity photoshoots! I feel like it is an awesome time to remember in a really cool way.  @kitkatz1990 and while my gown wasn't flowy I sure as hell did that flower crown, which DD then wore during her newborn photoshoot LOL.
  • @jaclyn0405 I’m sure you rocked it!
  • @lurvleybunchococonuts lol it definitely taste like college 🤣

I live in the south too, I have a friend who has twin boys named.......
....... Beaux and Arreaux (we live in Louisiana, so the eau(x) is a thing and “Beau” is a fine name for child but I imagine I’d name my dog “beaux” and COME THE EFF ON WITH ARREAUX.

I see a lot of dumb names here too.

  • @ecat504 oh thats terrible... I always enjoy lurking the baby name board on here. It is a gold mine sometimes for what NOT to name your child.
  • @Ecat504 I mean I am reading that correct right? They literally named their twins Bow and Arrow?! Holy crap that is definitely one for the books.  Good Lord!

    @kitkatz1990 thanks love! :smile:
  • @bserena I’d get banned from TB so fast, I stay far away from that board.

@jaclyn0405 bow and arrow would be correct.

  • @Ecat504 wow I have nothing else to say lol
  • @Ecat504 I honestly have no words for those names.  :(  Those poor children!
  • Being a person with an extra letter in my name (not sure what my mom was thinking), I completely agree with being anti unique spellings. My children will only have names that people can pronounce easily upon reading them and know how to spell them when they hear them!
Hmm I think my UO is that babies are hard and toddlers are fun! My life got way better when my son could start to communicate what he needs and toddle around on his own. Of course there are some things that definitely aren’t more fun, but in general I’ve liked the toddler stage better.

@Ecat504 I couldn't figure out how to pronounce those names. I didn't get it until @jaclyn0405 posted. 😆

In general, I don't like the unique spellings either. And sometimes people pronounce them incorrectly. I wish I could remember the recent example I saw but when I heard someone say it, I was like that's not right.

@bserena I'm with you on some of the big and out there gender reveals I've seen go viral on FB. Some of them seem for show or trying to go viral and I don't like that. I think if it's smaller or part of a baby shower/party then it can be fun, such as cutting into a cake or popping a balloon. Something that is about celebrating and not for a video. We only did it for our families (we knew) and had them unwrap something for the baby. We did it when we were all getting together anyways and it was fun, especially to see my niece and nephews reactions.
  • @Ecat504 I'm with you on name spellings. Definitely. I'm generally not a fan of "made up" names, but I try not to judge, because it's not like that's a new phenomenon. Plus I tend to like hippie/botanical names...
@lurvleybunchococonuts Totally with you on cultural appropriation.
@bserena Definitely not into big gender reveals. Major eyeroll AW action for me.
@mimser I'm with you on maternity shots- I mean, whatever floats your boat, but I've never had the extra money floating around to spend on professional photos of any kind, not least of all a vanity project. Definitely take some pics, but some of the stuff I've seen just goes too far/is in bad taste.

  • Oh man, I agree with so many of these!

@Ecat504 I'm totally with you on the name thing. I think I've developed a permanent eye twitch whenever I see "Y"s randomly added to names.

@mimser Once I read the topic for this week, the maternity photo shoots was the first thing that came to mind but you beat me to it! I can sort of get the appeal in theory (just the general fantasy of wearing pretty dresses that you typically don't have an excuse for), but in reality I think the whole thing is just expensive and, after a few brief moments, kind of strange. What are you going to do with those pictures, really? Display them?
