TTC After a Loss

Acupuncture?

I was wondering if any of you ladies have any experience with acupuncture.  I went to the library to do some research and checked out the book "The Infertility Cure" which is all about traditional Chinese medicine and fertility.   I decided to make an appointment for a consultation, mainly because I've been ttc for 5 months with one loss, and for the first time in my life AF seems to be becoming increasingly irregular.  Thus far the doctors have not been interested in seeing me or even really talking to me about this since we have been trying for less than a year and have had only one loss.  My consultation is this Saturday at 5:30pm and is going to cost $60.  I was just curious if any of you have any experience with acupuncture, herbalists or traditional Chinese medicine.  Thanks!

Re: Acupuncture?

  • I don't have any advice, but I'm very interested to see the responses to this post.  Danielleee, I'm in almost the exact same situation as you.  I can't seem to get any doctors to take me seriously because we've "only" had one less and have been trying for less than a year.  Hopefully some of the girls on this board have experience with acupuncture!

  • It's so frustrating, isn't it!  Either way, I will be sure to post my experience this weekend.  Best of luck to you this cycle!

  • Yes, PLEASE post how it goes for you!  I've been seriously considering it but am too afraid to take the leap.  Plus, it's kind of expensive and I think DH would laugh at me if I asked him if we could afford it.  Even my mom rolled her eyes at me when I mentioned it.  But I'm still thinking about it!

Good luck to you as well!

  • I have been doing acupuncture for high blood pressure and fertility since Nov.  I also take herbs that they recommended.  I really like it so far.  I had a missed miscarriage in Oct. a D and E on Oct. 10th.  I didn't get my period until Dec. 13th.  I am on day 33 of my cycle and ovulated on day 29.  It's hard to tell if its working, but she says she has a high success rate for pregnancy.  It is suppose to strengthen your blood flow to the uterus.  I was experiencing some spotting after my period and I had one treatment and it stopped the spotting.  Good luck at your consult!
  • I did acupunture on 12/31.  It seemed like my cycle was shorter this month.  I have only done it once, so I will have to see if it really helps.

  • I've not had any experience with it either, but am contemplating it if we dont' get KU this cycle. I think it may help with the psychological aspects of IF, even if it doesn't really "do" anything.
  • You should also really try charting.  It gives you a good incite into what is going on... I highly recommend it!!!
  • I hope you don't mind me posting over here.  I went to acupuncture for almost a year.  I started going when we had been trying for about 11 months, just before my first clomid cycle.  My consultation was pretty expensive, like $140 I think.  Then my sessions were $70 for each session.  I really enjoyed acupuncture.  I felt like it helped me to feel relaxed and I just felt good after I went to it.  It also seemed to help with my headaches.  My acupuncturist also did some electrostimulation on some of the points just before ovulation to help thicken my lining.  Overall I loved acupuncture and I would recommend it to anyone.  I would say just make sure you are going to someone who specializes in acupuncture for fertility so you can get the most benefit from your treatments.  Good luck!
