  • @modoodles My parents divorced when I was 2.  One of my step-parents was very active in my life there for everything.  My Dad had no visitation and was rarely around though we lived in the same small city (120,000).  The only competition he ever came to was after I won something at the local Rotary club (his) and he seemed to feel embarrassed not to come to the regional with me.
I'll say as adult who experienced that I knew then and now who "showed" up for me in life.

I'd be pretty annoyed if it was you.  I'm hoping your BIL/SIL may take this as a prod to remember the kids didn't divorce them.
  • @bluguitarhannah my daughter is SUPER aware- she and her dad don't  see eye to eye on pretty much anything anymore.  When she was going regularly she was always being made to take care of her little brothers, and he was always pumping her for information at my house during their nightly phone calls, to the point where she would be crying and unable to talk I would take the phone away from her and tell him he could call the next day. She finally got to the point where she can tell him now, "I don't want someone to talk to me that way, so if you don't stop, I will be hanging up." After about 3/4 times of her telling him that and actually hanging up- he stopped with that crap. And, yes, she's been rough this year, but she always knows I'm there to support her. She's been asking me since October if she can change her name to my DH'S last name. I've put her off for a while, and even though exhusband would never agree to it, according to our state laws, she's old enough to decide and would just need to submit her own letter to a judge. It's just not been on my list of priorities. If she's still asking in a few months and I know it isn't just a passing phase, then we can seriously discuss it.
  • @mrsdrez I hope your H doesn't get injured for both of your sake's! My H is the same way... terrible patient, has the pain tolerance of... I don't know but something that has zero pain tolerance lol. He tore his ACL while we were engaged and good lord that was a rough road. He was so sulky and moody but like, wouldn't do basic things like take Advil to reduce inflammation (insert eyeroll). I had to attend all of his doctor's appointments too... I'm annoyed just thinking about it!

@modoodles I agree with @bluguitarhannah that as kids get older, they know who was there for them (genuinely there for them, not there for show) and who wasn't. My parents also got divorced when I was young. That's really sweet that your daughter wants to change her last name. It sounds like you are handling that decision with appropriate care. Hopefully your ex coming to watch her will be a good thing regardless.
  • @footdrbritt  Good for you girl.  The willingness to sit and talk me through stuff is what I love about my OB practice.  I like that they take time with me.  If I'm sitting in the waiting room an extra 15 minutes when I go, I know that's why and that's okay with me.

@kc0711 We moved 1.5 years ago and this was me.  We also hired movers and moved like a mile away.  It was worth every single penny not to have to deal with all the furniture.  No judgement here!

  • @modoodles I’d be judging too...
  • @kc0711 we didn't hire a moving company when we moved, but last year our house flooded and the insurance company hired a moving company to move all of our undamaged stuff out while the house got fixed and honestly it was amazing. I was like "so this is how the other half live" lol. No judgment! If you can swing it DO IT.
@modoodles It sucks when your friends complain about stuff and do the opposite of what they should do. I don't care what they do (or silently judge lol), just don't complain to me about it!
@footdrbritt I hope you get your ice cream! You deserve it for being so great to your patients, because at the end of the day that's who you're all working for.
@meanjellybean so far so good on the non-injured husband front! and the ski part of the day is almost over lol.

  • @kc0711 we are moving in a month are are 100 percent hiring movers. I have a company coming to give me a quote next week and I'm slightly terrified of what they are going to say. I really don't even have a ballpark in mind so I feel like they are going to say the number and I'm going to slap them out of shock.
  • @meanjellybean dying at the "slap them out of shock".  I have someone coming to give me a quote about painting the interior of my house and I'm also scared. I just haaaate painting so much, and I think my DH will do a crap job at it.

Confession: I drank a sip of my husband's bloody mary one afternoon and it was fucking fantastic. No regrets. Also, I had a cold deli sub a couple nights ago for supper. It was delicious. And I bought a random box of fudge rounds at the grocery store last night and have eaten four of them today. Maybe 5, I'm not totally sure, but there is only 1 out of 12 left.

  • FFFC: im trying so hard to convince MH that we need a separate airbnb for when we go to his brothers wedding next month. hes like "well my parents offered to let us stay there" and im like "ya, in their 2 bedroom apartment that already houses four of them, theres no space" and hes like "well my sister would give us her bed since youre pregnant" and im wanna be like "i dont care, that makes me feel bad, and i dont want to be around them anyway because they drive me insane" but i dont know how to do it without offending him/them

  • @modoodles your confessions are my confessions today lol. Last night I had several sips of DH's beer(s) and they tasted great. Had a turkey sandwich for lunch today. My household has gone through two containers of double-stuff oreos in about a week... and my DD doesn't even like oreos...
  • Eeeww @meanjellybean double stuff are the worst! Ok, they don't actually taste bad, but the original are the best for dipping in a glass of milk.
  • @beckylookatherbump the Nashville impacts look just awful. I’m so sorry. I lived in New Orleans when Katrina hit so I know how disruptive natural disasters can be. Your FFFC is safe with me.
  • @modoodles omg you must be joking. It's so funny that you say that because I had meant to post in one of the UO threads that regular OG oreos are trash and I honestly will turn one down if offered to me. I only do double stuff  :p
  • +1 for having a turkey sandwich yesterday. (I would love to eat this daily..) and I made myself feel better by eating one supplied at work that we gov sour pregnant patients. They claim it’s not regular deli meat. But I’m sure it actually is.
  • FWIW- my OB says deli meat it totally fine, just follow the if it smells good, go ahead motto. I had a ham sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and avocado today!
  • I don't eat meat anymore other than seafood, so nice not having to worry about deli meat this time around. Except I have been craving smoked salmon soooo bad, and finally caved and got a big piece that I've been eating all week! I don't think I'm supposed to do that. Also making poached eggs all the time, that are runny but on the firmer side compared to how I normally make them. Normally I'm like "why risk anything at all," and recently I'm like, "I don't give a shit, I'm going to eat what I want to eat!"

I've also been craving shredded chicken sooooo badly, like in tacos or something. I haven't had any interest in meat since I gave it up 2 years ago, and now it's hitting me hard!
  • @meanjellybean sorry, you’re wrong about the Oreos. People on DD’s board like the mega stuffed and that sounds awful.

    @modoodles 3 things:
1- I’d have totally called your friend out on spending after complaining about money, so you’re nicer than me 😂
2- see above about ordeos lol
3- no judgement here with the drink. My friend is a sommelier and ordering $90 bottles for the table to split in Vegas. You better believe I had a glass! I prob wouldn’t have a full Bloody Mary bc it’s so much booze... but a couple of sips is totally acceptable!
