March What are you reading/watching?

I thought maybe a monthly thread? Figured I’d start with March since February is almost over.

Re: March What are you reading/watching?

  • I was reading a book called The Fifteen Lives of Henry August, which is good, but I needed a break so I went to the library and picked up Lily and the Octopus, which turns out to be a book about a dachshund with cancer, which I didn’t know when I got it but so far it’s a fairly good read. I think it’s also about mental health and anxiety. I’m only about 100 pages in. I picked it up based on the blurb on the book comparing it to The Art of Racing In the Rain, because I loved that book. so far my favorite line in the book is:

“I have to get better at living in the unknowing.”

  • @NME44, I read The First 15 Lives.... last year and I really enjoyed it.

I’m currently reading Atonement and listening to Reading People by Anne Bogel.
We are watching The Walking Dead and really enjoying it.

  • @profmcgonagall, good to hear! I’m also sitting here thinking it’s Harry August, not Henry, lol. I can’t actually remember. I’m enjoying it too, but it’s a lot. Sometimes I have to give my brain a rest with something a little easier and come back to it. I recently read The Body by Bill Bryson and I think I read 3 other books while I was reading that one.

I really loved the movie Atonement! Looking forward to how you like the book.

I think I’m gonna start watching Atlantis with DH. Sounds like a cool idea for a show.
  • I just finished binging Call the Midwife on Netflix and Star Trek: Discovery on CBS All Access.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • I’m reading “The Proposal” by Jasmine Guillory. Love her books so much! We have been watching Locke & Key on Netflix- so good!
    Me: 29, DH: 29
    TTC since: 2/13
    Long, anovulatory cycles
    Began fertility testing 12/13
Ultrasound and bloodwork: Everything looks good (according to my ob/gyn)
    HSG: waiting to schedule
SA: scheduled with RE for 1/6/14
  • @kboydbowman I am currently binging Call the Midwife, so I guess I was not alone in thinking of this while pregnant haha

I just started reading Where the Crawdads Sing, so I will have to report back once I have read more of it.

Realistically also binge reading pregnancy books, but that is less exciting.
  • @fitzfizz Where the Crawdads Sing is the best book I read of 2019, SO good!

I am currently reading Little Fires Everywhere.   I have been meaning to read it for a while and saw that Hulu is coming out with a series about it, so I figured it was time!
  • I mainly use audiobooks so I can listen in the car and at work, and I just started The Perfume Collector.

@fitzfizz I have Where the Crawdads Sing in my library to listen to next!
  • @limekilnroad I just finished Jane for the first time! It was amazing!
  • I’ve been watching my new fave trashy show Love is Blind on Netflix.   That show is a complete train wreck.  I’m also obsessed with the Great British Baking show and Zumbos Just Desserts.  And if we count toddler shows then I’m an expert on Word Party, Sesame Street, lion king, little mermaid and dumbo.  Those are all on regular rotation at my house 🤪
  • I’m currently reading Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive and it’s such an inspiring read.
  • @anitamargarita_82 omg my H and i are also watching Love is Blind and it's terrible but addicting. Babies is also a great docuseries and made me so emotional!

I LOVE call the midwife. I binged on it during my first pregnancy. Cried so much!

I'm reading Cold Heart Creek by Lisa Regan because I like crime stuff :)
  • @ellemnop90 I loved Little Fires Everywhere.

I haven’t been able to get past the first chapter of Where the Crawdads Sing... 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m not reading anything currently unless Magnolia Journal counts.

HGTV and Beat Bobby Flay/Iron Chef are on a lot in our house when it’s not Frozen 2, Paw Patrol, Daniel Tiger or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. 😂
  • @ProfessorMcGonagall - Good luck with Atonement. I read it a while back (before the movie came out) and the ending made me want to chuck my book across the room.

@limekilnroad - I plan on starting Babies soon. I have it saved to my watchlist. I'm glad you recommend it, because I wasn't sure I'd like it.

I just finished Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult. She's my favorite author. I've read a good 85-90% of the books she has written. It challenged a lot of the ways people think about Planned Parenthood, abortions, birth control, and pro-life/pro-choice arguments.

I'm getting ready to start reading Coroner's Journal: Forensics and the Art of Stalking Death by Luis Cataldie, M.D. My friend wants my help starting a podcast on true crime and psychology, and so I'm doing my homework.

  • @fitzfizz @kboydbowman and @morethanamama have you READ The Midwife? I loved the series so I picked up the first of her 3(?) memoirs and it was beautiful.
  • @babyodo I love Jodi Picoult!

  • @morethanamama yes!  Love is blind is a train wreck.  I just watched the finale last night.  I can’t wait until next week when they release the reunion show!

I started watching Babies as well.  I really like the scientific information they present.   It’s so interesting the way all of these different factors and ideas affect our babies.
  • +1 to loving Call the Midwife. I discovered it while I was TTC#1 which was a little rough. But it is just so good. And I have been watching every new season that comes out since. When I was pregnant with my first I also started binge watching One Born Every Minute.

I just recently finishes watching The Bodyguard on Netflix. And my husband and I started Hunters on Amazon Prime last night. It is so dark (though they try to break it up with some dark humor) but really interesting.

I have the 1st book sitting on my table but I haven't read it yet.

First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • To all the moms watching Jane the Virgin- this makes me so happy! I only have like 1 friend in real life that I could convince to watch this show and I have been loving it ever since it came out. Def a show I could just pick up any episode and watch for fun.

We are currently watching Outlander, newest season. Which is really good so far. I love the character Marsali so I'm glad her role is getting bigger on the show.

And it has been a long time since I have picked up a book, like 6 months. So very glad to have this resource to motivate me.
  • I just finished I'll Be Gone In The Dark and I'm about to start In Cold Blood. Currently binging Schitt's Creek + Criminal Minds (for the 400th time).
@mdfarmchick I had a hard time getting into Where the Crawdads Sing as well. I pushed through and finished, but I think I had to reread the first chapter like 4 times before I got past it. It wasn't my favorite!
  • I love this thread, but it also makes me miss having the time to read for fun. I've been trying to read Becoming for a year now, but it's so big and heavy and I don't want to carry it with me anywhere. My phone is filled with screenshots of books I want to read.

Currently reading: one of many 5-minute Disney Stories books, Berenstain Bears, PJ Masks early readers...

Currently watching: new season of Dr. Who, Encore (Disney+), Cheer, the backs of my eyelids
  • @aztecash I used to love reading, but haven’t been able to since mini was born. I get interrupted too much, I can’t get through one page. By the time he’s asleep I don’t have the brain for it anymore. Also, so excited for Sunday’s episode of Dr. Who!! I love this new doctor, she’s so perfect!

  • @NME44 I read the body recently and it took me awhile to get through, too.

@ellemnop90 loved Crawdads too, and I liked Little Fires Everywhere. Looking forward to watching the show.

@themoonandme Ill be gone in the dark is high on my to read list ❤️

Im reading The Dutch House by Ann Patchet. Not really watching anything right now

  • @themoonandme DH and I love criminal minds. I love me some Spencer
  • @mdfarmchick too funny, I just finished Little Fires Everywhere and felt let down, I didn’t love it!   But I’m going to still try the show... Opposites on those books I guess lol!
  • @aztecash, download goodreads and you can keep a running list of “want to read” on the app. You can also keep a list of “read”. Saves you from having to search through your photos to find which books you want to read.
  • @dolewhipper criminal minds is one of my all time favorite shows!!

I just finished Lily and the Octopus and I bawled for a full hour. I really liked this book.
  • @ellemnop90 I recently ready little fires everywhere and liked it overall. I’m looking forward to the show.

My book club is picking their next book and I think it’ll be Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It’s not really my genre, but I’ll give it a try.

Currently rewatching the office for the billionth time and watching The Outsider on HBO based on the Stephen King book.
  • It’s interesting that Where the Crawdads Sing is so divisive. We read it in my neighborhood book club a few months ago, and it was the same. Some really loved it and some hated it. I fell in the hated it group.
  • @dolewhipper he is my favorite too!
  • @dedioni always a good idea :)
