  • @pirateduck I'm so sorry. Losing a pet is the absolute worst, even when you know it's best for them. <3

@thepretzelchick I want a husky lab mix so bad! She probably needs a lot of exercise though, right?

I want to show off my kitties, but I need to go searching back through my phone. Stay tuned.
  • @pirateduck so sorry for your loss.  Such a pretty girl!
  • @pirateduck I am sorry for your loss.

  • @pirateduck I am so sorry about losing Sunshine. It's so hard to say goodbye, no matter how long we have them. 💔

  • @soprano19 Oh yeah! At least one long walk a day, if not two, plenty of rowdy wrestling and playing time, and she spends a lot of time running circles in the backyard when it's sunny out; summer is her favourite because DS spends hours outside with her. When she doesn't burn off enough energy, she's liable to dig or find something to chew (like shoes or a remote), so it's like checking on a toddler constantly when she's outside and it's rained recently.

But she really is a good girl and is pretty chill when she's gotten all her zoomies out. Like right now she's sound asleep on the bed and has been for most of the morning, in between a few yard laps and playing fetch in the house.
  • @pirateduck I'm so sorry for your loss. Even when it's the right time, even when it's not a surprise, there is never enough time with a beloved pet. I hope that you'll be lucky enough to have another wonderful dog again when you are ready.

  • @pirateduck I might not be the best person to talk sanity...we adopted Spock when he was 6 months old and I was pregnant with my second. He was just a year old when she was born. We did have our older dog to help train him. And my toddler (oldest) had a great time chasing puppy around happily when I was hugely pregnant in the nasty part of the summer, lol.

Wasn't 'easy exactly, but it was right for us. Granted, older puppy, and earlier in pregnancy, and it was my second baby, so I had a better handle on how things would go with a newborn.

  • @pirateduck Don't do it! We got our dog basically the day I had a positive pee stick, he was 1. So there was time to train him and stuff. It was fine for a while, but it was hard and then when my health started to go haywire postpartum we just could not give him the home he deserved. You have no clue how your body/health will be postpartum, so I highly suggest waiting.

  • @pirateduck Recent golden mix puppy adopter here.... I would also highly suggest waiting.  We adopted Winnie after my 2 losses, and she definitely helped to get me out of my funk, but then MH broke his ankle literally the day before we we picked her up, and I had to do all of the middle-of-the-night puppy wake up calls by myself, and it was so much work.  Way less work than a baby or a toddler, but I wouldn't want to do a puppy and a newborn at the same time, personally.  And only being ~2months out from baby time won't really give you a lot of time to pre-train.  And then having two baby creatures demanding all of your attention would be a lot.  There will be more puppies!
