I have my NT scan Thursday and I. Can. Not. Wait! I have so much anxiety right now. I don't remember being this anxious when I was pregnant with the boys.
All our measurements were perfectly on track, and we even got to see the baby YAWN! Lol and scratch his/her cute Lil nose. So adorable!
And by "we," I mean the tech, myself, and DD. She was such a good girl throughout the appointment, except she did get start getting antsy once they moved me into the exam room after the scan, when I was talking to the midwife, because she was wet. As soon as I changed her, she calmed right down. I brought a bottle, snacks, a couple books, and a couple toys, so that all worked out just fine. Except she kept trying to feed me her cheese! :D she did eat some of it herself though, so that's good. And the MW recognized her jammies as ones she got for her neice, so that was cute, too. I go back at 16w for an early GD test bc DD was such a porker! Lol
I had a standard appointment and all is well. We could not find his heart beat with the Doppler so I got to see him, which was nice. No picture though. He’s so much bigger. I can’t wait until March 23 for the a/s to see him again. I think that will be the last time we see him until birth. But we will go to a private place to see him some time around 30 weeks.
I am now waiting to do blood work. On the paper work it says “maternal serum alpha-1 fetoprotein”.

Yesterday was my nurse appointment for family history and the blood draw. She managed to snag a Doppler so I got to hear the heartbeat which was so nice. It was such a relief since it has been so long since my last appointment (or at least it felt like it). I'm starting to feel so much more confident about this pregnancy and ready to share the news!
@BusinessWife my heart is melting at scratching the nose... that's so adorable
@blackgirlmagic nice that you got a bonus peak of the baby!!
@riatortillaxo the wait between appointments feels so long... In reality I haven't had to wait that long (6w, 8w, 10.5w, next one at 12.5w, then one scheduled for 14w)... but I've only been going so often because of either issues or I have an appt then they schedule the bloodwork for like 2 weeks later instead of doing it that day or something.. so my appointment after the 14w appointment won't be until 18w (unless something else comes up) which is going to feel like foreverrrrr
My appt today went perfectly! Baby girl is progressing right on track and the NT scan was good. Hb is 156. She was so active - kicking and moving about... so surreal. They even showed us close ups on each of her arms, legs, and her brain. Can't wait to feel her moving around. 💗

I had an appointment today. I got to hear her heartbeat, HB 142. I was so excited because we've had some complications and it was just nice to know she's still there. Everything seemed great...
And then a few hours later my doctor called to tell me we forgot to go over the rest of my genetic results. (I didn't realize they hadn't posted all of the info on my online chart). She then tells me I'm a cystic fibrosis gene carrier.
Now we have to decide whether we should have my SO tested or not.
Had our NT scan yesterday and based on initial results (the US measurements) we are normal / in range. Wonderful to hear, and very cool to see the baby squirming around in there. This was also the first appointment DH has come to and it was nice to share the experience with him.
@catana15 I'm so sorry for that news, which I know is incredibly scary, and I'll be thinking about you as you make your decision re: whether to pursue more testing. In your shoes (please take or leave these two cents as helpful) I would probably have my SO tested, since at this point you're already worrying and this is an opportunity to hopefully put your mind back at ease. My heart hurts for you and the whiplash you went through yesterday with a positive appointment followed by this phone call.
@catana15 oh jeez, sorry about the genetic testing. And I can't believe they forgot to tell you in person! Anyway, yes, definitely have him tested as well. If he is not a carrier, you have nothing to worry about as far as your baby having the CF disease. Worst case she's a carrier same as you 🤷 But that is good information that could potentially put your mind very much at ease. (((Hugs)))
@catana15 Ugh, I cannot believe they forgot to tell you about that during your appt!! Like the other girls have said, if your SO can get tested, that is likely what I would do. Hoping for the best... hugs

Finally got my NT scan scheduled! When I went for my first appointment almost 3 weeks ago they told me not to schedule it until they called me after getting the preauthorization (I'm 31 so they wanted to make sure my insurance would cover it) but I hadn't heard anything so I called Monday to find out what was happening, and I finally heard back today and got it scheduled for Friday morning (had to be scheduled in the next 6 days since I'm already 12w5d)!

@catana15 my sister had a baby that was a carrier for CF and we share a lot of the same genes. I was ttc so I went and got tested. It turned out to be my brother in law that was a carrier, but at least me and my sister knew we could keep having kids without the risk. I guess one in every 30 people is a carrier and many don't know it. Good luck with your decision! If he could get tested at your OB that might be quickest. I waited months for an appointment and results.
@catana15 a little late to the convo but I too am a carrier for CF (we had genetic testing done prior to doing IVF). For piece of mind we did elect to do genetic testing for my husband and in our case he was not a carrier. It wouldn't have changed anything had he been but we needed to know what we were getting in to.

And the war begins.. my blood pressure is beautiful and there is no reason to be concerned right now.. but given my history of pre-e I am doing my first 24 hour urine collection this week following my appointment today. Boo.
@catana15 my cousin has cf. So everyone in my family knows that possibility is there. I wasn’t tested with my first because it wasn’t available where I lived but my husband and I knew it wouldn’t change our minds. Hopefully your husband isn’t a carrier and you knowing that now is just beneficial information to be able to tell your kids to get tested.

@RedBaramid I'm right there with you! I've had to do my first 24 hour collection too! I actually didn't ever do one with my first pregnancy, the day they diagnosed my Pre-E I had an emergency c-section (I also had HELLP in addition to Pre-E).

Had my appointment today at 15+2. Baby was completely uncooperative and after 15 minutes of trying, the nurse couldn't get a hb on the doppler. Cue the PGAL freakout! Luckily, my dr did a quick u/s and all is well. Baby was literally curled in a ball in a corner of my ute, it was ridiculous. Anatomy scan scheduled for 3/23
Quick rant. I apologise in advance. I am an emotional wreck at the moment. This may not even be the best place for this post but here I go anyway. So I am STILL waiting on insurance to go through so I have yet to have a "proper prenatal appointment". I had my pregnancy confirmed several weeks ago at a clinic. Based off of LMP, symptoms, and very carefully recording sexual activity I was given a due date of Aug. 23. Putting me about 14+2 today. Even though my first positive would have been around 9 weeks. Everything tracks. This is my second pregnancy and started showing around 10 weeks. Right now I have a noticable small bump. This is where it gets frustrating. I made an appointment at a clinic today, just to check in that everything is good, as I'm starting my second trimester. They wouldn't do an ultrasound since I am paying out of pocket. But claimed I could only be 9weeks pregnant AT MOST. Because apparently there is no way I could have gotten negative tests and still been pregnant. I told them that's not possible because my husband and I weren't sexuality active at that time because I was feeling so crappy. She listened for a heartbeat and couldn't find anything. But only checked SUPER LOW on my pelvis. Because "you are only 9 weeks, it wouldn't be any higher up". I would think that even if there is a possibility that I am 5 weeks farther along you should check a slightly higher position? I was in tears. She kept asking why I made an appointment if I feel like everything is fine. And it's "so early in the pregnancy" that there isn't anything else they could do. I made the appointment because the dates I was first told puts me at starting my second trimester, and I feel/look that far along. 9 and 14 weeks is a huge difference. I understand that calculations can sometimes be slightly off depending on ovulation. But that's a huge jump. I just wanted answers and ended up leaving more frustrated and anxious.
I also had a doctor appointment today. 17w1d. I was really looking forward to hearing the baby’s heartbeat as I haven’t had a doc appt or US in nearly 5 weeks.
My doctor seemed frazzled. At first she had me confused with someone else whom she is seeing tomorrow but was looking at her chart? She had me nervous. But assured me my chart and last US and bloodwork at 12w3d came back perfectly normal.
Everything is fine.
She did the examination and wanted to check baby’s heartbeat... she couldn’t find it. She didn’t seem concerned one bit. Also, at my last appointment she had a real tough time finding it, but did find the heartbeat.
She’s scheduling our anatomy scan for 18-20weeks but made a note for the US clinic to book next week (18weeks).
I just wanted peace of mind. I’m trying SO hard not be a nervous wreck. I’m just trying to relax now that I’m home and I’m pretty sure I felt baby?. I don’t know if I should wait for my US or go to the hospital for a check.
@kdale2613 Hey girl, I just wanted to let you know that I've been in a VERY similar boat. I didn't have my first official prenatal appointment until I was 14+2, and I had 0 clinic appointments to even confirm the pregnancy until that point. I tested positive the day my period should have started. I knew about it from the very soonest possible moment. It's super scary to do this without an established doctor. I hear you.
My insurance won't kick in until I'm 32 weeks deep, but I found an OB provider who is working with me to private pay until my insurance kicks in, I am paying for services as utilized unless I don't have insurance by 36 weeks, at that point I will need to pay for the grand total of what they consider the global pregnancy and delivery cost in full before they will see me again. It's not ideal, but I know the insurance will start and I know what that big scary number will be so if for some reason the insurance doesn't start like it should I will have saved up to pay off my account by then. Have you spoken to any OB's yet and explained your situation? You may be surprised at how willing they are to work with you. For the most part, they are eager to establish care with someone as soon as they can.
Also, try to remember that less than 100 years ago we didn't have all these appointments and all this technology. It was a whole lot of wait and see and "you'll be fine unless you aren't and when you aren't we'll see what we can do then."
@charhar0820 I’m sorry that your appointment did not go well for you. I personally would not go to a hospital to check up on the baby when nothing is wrong. If anything I would make an appointment at one of those private ultrasound places to see the baby. Especially if your appointment is next week, if I read that correctly.
@kdale2613 I’m sorry that your still waiting for your insurance to come.

@kdale2613 I’m so sorry you had such a stressful appointment and that you didn’t feel heard. That is so frustrating! I’ve never actually heard of someone not testing positive until 9 weeks though... is that similar to your previous pregnancy/pregnancies? Maybe it’s just your body? If I were you I would probably go to a private ultrasound clinic. For $40-50 I bet you could get a quick scan to check on baby, and they will be able to give you a pretty good idea of gestational age and due date there. I’m sure things are fine but I, too, would definitely want to know if I was closer to 9 or 14 weeks pregnant! That is a big difference! Good luck. Keep us posted!
@charhar0820 I’m sorry you also had a crappy, stressful appointment! It sounds like your dr was not on her game yesterday. Since she had a hard time finding the HB last time, maybe babe is just in a tricky position or you have an anterior placenta which could make it harder to find? Did she try for a long time? I’d be stressed and upset if she couldn’t find it and didn’t spend like, 20 mins trying to find it to reassure me! I am sure things are fine but it sucks that you have to wait until next week at the anatomy scan to see/hear the heartbeat. Wishing you a much better appointment next week!
@RedBaramid I’m sorry you’re having so many insurance issues, but I’m glad you’ve found an OB who will work with you to get the essentials in until your insurance kicks in! Prenatal care is important and we should all have access to it!
@blackgirlmagic@laur84ns Thank you ladies for your replies. I feel like a crazy lady but really 5-7 weeks seems like forever for me without reassurance baby is good in there. I don’t know what I should be feeling with movements. Which at this point would be my only way of knowing baby is ok. I’ve had this almost constant fear something is going to go wrong. I just need to shake it.
As for my U/S appt, they were set to call me but I couldn't wait so I called and made the appt. because my doctor is requesting an anatomy scan they want to book me closer to 20 weeks. Even though my doc requested next week I’d be at 18w - my appointment isn’t until 19w Mar 10 😣. We don’t want to know the gender. I just want to know baby is ok. In the notes on my u/s referral form my Dr wrote “diff to hear fhb, book for next week if possible” and had it faxed to the u/s office.
I did turn to google for some sort of relief and found that most GP have a difficult time finding the baby’s HB, some may refuse to even use a doppler for this reason. It guess it is common. I just thought at 17w the hb would be easy to find. This is going to be a long 2 weeks. Learning as I go 🤷🏼♀️
@charhar0820 I know its easier said than done but I would not worry. FHR is not always easy to find especially if it was a GP vs OB. If she didn't seem concerned, I would assume this happens to her often. And as for not seeing baby since 12 weeks it is pretty standard in my experience to do a 12 week then 20 week scan with nothing in between. So far as movement goes, it is so hit or miss this early on. With DD I did not feel consistent movement until 21-22 weeks (my placenta was anterior which makes it harder they told me). Counting kicks/movement is not reliable at this stage so even if you went days without feeling baby I would not worry. As others have mentioned you could always go to a clinic and self pay just to make yourself feel better, it might be worth it depending on how anxious you are about it! Hang in there!
@charhar0820 I know you're feeling all the anxiety, I remember that anxious gut feeling from DD 1. I was constantly worried about little her in there and being told I had to wait until 20 weeks when I hadn't seen her since week 9 felt like torture. But try to look at it this way, even just an extra week of waiting to see your baby again means the pictures will be more clear. Your doctors will get better looks at their vital organs, which is what this scan is really for. Your baby is going to be more developed, and you're going to see a real tiny thing very much shaped just like the human you're preparing to give birth to.
@maelove@RedBaramid Thank you ladies. As the day goes on I’m feeling more and more secure and trusting things are going to be ok! Surely if my doctor had any true concerns she would’ve sent me for an emergency ultrasound. My brain is mushy these days and just assumes the worse 😖🤦🏼♀️
@kdale2613, did she measure your fundus? Because while it's not an exact science and can vary based on a whole bunch of things and be off by a couple centimeters, it'd be highly odd for it to measure 14 weeks if you were only 9.
At nine weeks, she probably wouldn't be able to feel your uterus at all.
That sounds incredibly dumb. You know your body better than they do. My providers have always trusted my statements of "my periods are regular, and this was my LMP, and we should adjust my due date by x days because I have longer than average cycles" (and my babies have both come within a few days of that due date I came up with on my own.)
Nope. No measuring at all. Or anything else. She based that off of when I got my first positive. Instead of my LMP because false negatives are impossible. So even though I'm regular, happened to stop having periods, and had symptoms (that are mostly over by now) I couldn't have been pregnant. Never will go back to that clinic again. Lucky I just found out my insurance was approved so as soon as I get my card in the mail I can go see my OB!
Just got the call that the serum integrated screen came back within normal limits confirming what was seen in our NT scan! Now just waiting for Monday so I can get blood drawn for my clinical sneak peek test!

I had a scare this week with really bad abdominal pain so they scheduled me for a last min appt and baby looked great. Last time we just did Doppler so it was very reassuring to see her wiggling around in there. It’s crazy how they look like real babies already!
@roo_baby I was so shocked at my last ultrasound that it was like a real human baby in there! My ultrasound 4 weeks prior was uninterpretable and then all the sudden it was human its so crazy

Well that's good!
Ugh, my providers have always asked for the date of first positive on my paperwork, but that's one data point. That one data point shouldn't overwhelm everything else, especially if you have regular cycles.

Ugh, my providers have always asked for the date of first positive on my paperwork, but that's one data point. That one data point shouldn't overwhelm everything else, especially if you have regular cycles.
