Unpopular Opinion Thursday 2/20

Re: Unpopular Opinion Thursday 2/20

  • I think bananas are disgusting. I realize they are supposed to be bland and soothing for upset stomachs, but I think they are gross. Just the smell of my husbands slightly over-ripe banana this morning made me feel sick, and I don't even think I have started with real MS yet.

@fitzfizz Yes! Cannot stand over ripe bananas. Any brown spots and I won’t touch it.
    Me: 29, DH: 29
    TTC since: 2/13
    Long, anovulatory cycles
    Began fertility testing 12/13
Ultrasound and bloodwork: Everything looks good (according to my ob/gyn)
    HSG: waiting to schedule
SA: scheduled with RE for 1/6/14
  • Ketchup is not a breakfast food. The idea makes me want to gag, especially now that I’m pregnant.

  • @fitzfizz I hate ripe bananas but i can get on board with green ones

@mamaheatherl ketchup on eggs is gross. But on hashbrowns 👌

I’ll keep the food theme going.
Cauliflower is gross. Anything made with cauliflower is gross. It shouldn’t be made into rice, pizza crust or anything. Raw cauliflower smells awful to me when not pregnant.

  • I love ketchup on my eggs. Makes my husband gag just to see it though so I take pity on him and don’t do it very often.

  • +1 for cauliflower. I force myself to eat it. But I can't stand it. I adore bananas but ripe ones are gross! No ketchup on eggs here but def yes on hash browns. Now I want some.

I guess this is unpopular depending on where you live, but pickles are disgusting!
  • @babyodo I agree. No one needs to see a photo of my bloat.
  • I freaking love ripe bananas!
  • Greeeeen bananas only and just every once in a while.

    cauliflower-yum   pickles-omg yum

    Ketchup only on French fries.

    Eggs-vomit

Bump pics- to share with others this early laughable but to take and hoard for myself in my phone starting about 10ish weeks  <3<3<3

Going with the food theme- of all the foods Italian is my least favorite. Give me all the Mexican and Chinese. Pizza is so over rated! Not a huge pasta fan either except for the occasional Olive Garden. Usually still just go with the soup and salad.
  • Ketchup 🤢 The smell makes me gaggy and breakfast nooooo. The only acceptable place is a very tiny dab on a burger.

and re:coffee agree, I have a neighbor who posts a coffee meme 3x a week. Like girl, almost everybody loves cofffee, stop.

  • Mayonnaise on fries is amazing!
  • @anitamargarita_82 omg that was my #1 craving with my first!!
  • Yes it’s so good!  Yum 😋
  • @pelomama exactly. Also I don't particularly find coffee addiction jokes and memes funny... It wouldn't be funny if everyone posted about needing alcohol first thing in the morning or they'll verbally abuse everyone in their line of sight. So it isn't appropriate for the coffee memes either.
I know that's probably the most unpopular opinion out there though so apologies in advance!
  • I agree with liking coffee not being a personality trait because it’s not something unique enough to distinguish you from any other coffee loving American. (I actually feel the fact that I’ve never been a coffee lover as an UO.)

I will say though that’s why the coffee memes are such a hit. A good meme is relatable to many. And since many like coffee...memes galore.

So as a wrap up.... I say thinking you’re unique because you drink coffee=lame. Liking and posting coffee memes-less lame and not really an expression that one thinks they are unique but more so someone just commemorating with their fellow coffee lovers.
  • @NME44 now that you mention it, you're right, the whole mom wine life addiction is a thing too... Blech.
Well I still think memes about a literal drug being needed to make you more humane towards others is pathetic. I come from a long family line of addiction so I'm probably more sensitive to it all though, fair warning.
  • There are a lot of drugs people rely on to feel more “normal” though, that have no stigma (or shouldn’t have a stigma) attached to them (psych meds, for example.)

I guess my unpopular opinion is that when you compare innocuous things like coffee to alcohol, you trivialize the harmful effects of alcohol and contribute to the growing alcoholism culture. I’m not implying that was your intention, but that’s how it feels.

Anyway, totally within your right to be annoyed by coffee memes. I just don’t think addiction to coffee is even in the same universe as addiction to alcohol.

@NME44 I agree, we’re not talking high doses like what are in caffeine pills that cause impairment or crazy mood swings. If caffeine were the same as alcohol we wouldn’t be giving children chocolate.

I grew up with an alcoholic for a parent. Enjoying coffee has zero to do with alcohol addiction. It’s not remotely the same. I never once refused to get into a car with my mother because she had too much coffee, but I definitely did refuse to get in my dad’s car because he had been drinking since he got off work. When my mom didn’t have coffee she might have been cranky, but my dad was ill and had shakes when he didn’t drink. They aren’t the same.

  • I'm not saying all drugs are bad. My point was, I personally think that memes and jokes about being addicted to something is really harmful and not something that should be joked about. Obviously alcohol is on a whole different level than coffee/caffeine, I said it isn't funny when alcohol is memed (or was memed in the same way coffee is) so I don't think it's funny that caffeine is either. I know caffeine gets a pass because it's nowhere near as harmful as alcohol is, and I definitely understand that, but I still think that just because it's less harmful doesn't mean it's good to make jokes about needing it in the morning or you can't be nice to your kids...
I'm terrible at words but that was the point I was trying to make, and no getting in the car with someone hopped up on caffeine is definitely definitely never the same as getting in the car with someone who's drunk. I'd never mean to imply that.
