Laying Baby on Chest to Burp

I have a 1 month old, and he frequently gets gas pains after second feeding of the night. The poor little guy gets really fussy and turns red in the face sometimes from trying to push. What seems to help to get the gas out is by me laying on my bed in between my pregnancy pillow with an extra pillow behind my head to lift me up, and laying him on my chest to stroke the back of his little back. He with passes gas or burbs, and eventually falls asleep on my chest.

Is this position okay. I’ve read articles warning to not let babies sleep on their stomachs and to not sleep with baby on chest, however, this is the only position that seems to alleviate his gas pains.

Please help confirm.

It is not recommended to let babies sleep on your chest in the even that you fall asleep and roll over and they fall or are suffocated. Talk to your pediatrician about the gas. They may recommend medication, trying a different formula or cutting certain foods out of your diet if breastfeeding.
