After a 25 pound weight gain after miscarrying, I now fit into the plus size category again. Last year, I had 40 plus pounds on Weight Watchers so that I could reduce my risks of gestational diabetes w/ my second pregnancy. I was successful, and the we started TTC and I got pregnant on our second cycle. Needless to say, I miscarried. I got really hurt, then angry and then depressed. I turned to food, and 25 pounds later, I now am a size 16...18 in some clothes. Yikes!
We've waited three cycles since the mc and now I'm exercising and I'm back on Weight Watchers. I told my husband that I'm ready to try this cycle regardless. I'm ready to begin trying again...I'm so tired of being sad. I'm so tired of celebrating everyone elses new babies and pregnancies.
Is anyone else where I am? Overweight, and wanting to TTC anyway? Do you think I'm making a mistake? Part of me thinks I am...but part of me just doesn't give a damn anymore.
Thanks for listening.

Re: Any plus size TTCers???
After stopping BCP I went from a size 6 to a 10 in 4 months. When I got pg, I went to a size 12. After m/c and all this ttc sh!t I am now up to a size 14-16.
So yes, I feel your pain. I talked to my Dr about it and he said to eat healthy and exercise but if I want to get pg, I am not supposed to diet right now. 2 Drs told me the same thing. What bothers me is DH, who keeps saying he thinks I should "get in shape" before getting pg
luvsbunny,
Hi. First of all, thanks for responding. I really appreciate it. Did you doctor say why you shouldn't diet right now? Did he/she think that it might get in the way of conceiving?
Thanks,
Lor
I posted about this earlier, I'm putting off trying for a bit while I'm losing some weight. I got pregnant the first time while at my heaviest (and had an ectopic) but I think I would just be more comfortable being a little smaller.?
However, I've also got some other reasons to wait a little bit (school) which make it a slightly different situation. I guess I'd just listen to your doctors and go with your gut!?
Your story sounds a lot like mine! I have always really struggled with my weight. I lost 50lbs last year and went from a size 18 to a 12. Then after the m/c I gained 30 back - blah! I'm currenlty putting TTC on hold while I work on losing the weight. I've lost 4 lbs since Jan 5th!
Part of me is worried that I'll miss out on possibly getting pg again before summer, but mostly I know that losing it now means that when I do get pg I will feel better about it (and myself).
I'm plus size and my doctor *insists* that my weight has no bearing on my m/c, though it does put me at a higher risk should I become pg again. Unfortunately time will not really allow me to wait to get down to a healthier weight (I'm in my mid 30s) so I try to eat healthy and be as active as I can in the meantime.

We did all kinds of exams and everything is normal (cholesterol, etc) so my RE said yes, droping a few pounds would help TTC so try to eat healthy and exercise with moderation. But he said not to do any diet like atkins, or South beach or any cleanser and things like that. He said WW is ok as long as I would always have some protein (at least 1x a day) and dairy.
He also said no weights, for exercise only walk or bike or some low int. cardio class or machine.
I decided to just do WW on my own, keep my dance classes 2x a week, walk when I can. I've lost 7 lbs in 3 months (sucks I know) but he said one thing at a time: what's priority for you now, weight or baby? And I chose baby
Did they say why? My Dr told me the opposite, that I *should* lose as much weight as I can now. It can significantly affect your fertility to be overweight and ttc and he advised that since I am significantly overweight (58 lbs on a 5'9" frame) that it is important to try to slim down now. Obviously once we get our BFP the diet part will stop, but hopefully the good eating habits will continue!
I was definitely plus size for my first, successful pregnancy - everything went fine. Getting pregnant was easy, baby was great.
Of course I didn't lose all of the weight from that pregnancy so I am even more plus size this time around. The doctor said that it didn't have anything to do with my m/c, but I am definitely concerned about it being a problem TTC.
That said, I'm 37 and not going to wait to lose weight at this point. I do worry about it some, but I am just trying to be as healthy as I can and go from there.?
I think by dieting he meant no crazy diets like atkins, and things like that.
He wants me to eat healthy and lose weight slowly. If I put my body into too much stress as far as dieting it will get in the way of ttc. read my 2nd reply to lorelai too
That makes sense, and is true all the time not just when ttc!
On a side note, I think Atkins gets a bad rap. I don't know if anyone else has actually read the entire program (vs. just hearing the media version) but it really is not an 'all you can eat meat and cheese' plan. You have to eat two cups of salad veggies and one cup of additional veggies a day which is *way* more than the average US adult eats... You can then fill in with high-fiber whole grains in moderation, unprocessed fruits, meats (as long as they are unprocessed and don't contain nitrates or sugar) and moderate dairy. It actually is extremely close to the Diabetic Association reccommended eating plan, other than the initial two weeks when you are basicly eliminating all sugars and flour from your diet.
I was on it about four years ago and lost 52 lbs, which directly led to my BFP. Through the entire process I was monitored by my Dr. (who had actually reccommended it in the first place!) and can honestly say it was the healthiest I've ever been as an adult.
But there is a *huge* difference between the media's interpretation and the real Atkins plan...
I give atkins as an example because it is popular. Yes, I read the book and I was on it for a while too. But because each body reacts in a different way I actually got really unhealthy. My sister did it and still does and loves it. But it does not work for me, my body has a very hard time digesting meat (who would know - I am huge meat lover) and I had migraines for weeks, missing my carbs. I tried South Beach and that one I followed to a t, all the books recipes, and limiting portions and I gained 4 lbs
(lost 5 in the first 2 weeks but gained 9 on phase2).
So WW is a better fit for me!
ARGH I am still the weight I was when I miscarried at 19 weeks pg. I wear a 14, 16 in pants. I have been trying to do weight watchers as well, but I am such an emotional eater! Each month I'm not pregnant, I start off with good intentions, but by the time the 2WW rolls around I'm an emotional mess.
I tend to get a little defensive because people give me sh!t for being on Atkins and they usually have no clue what they are talking about!
Both my Mom and Sis *love* WW and have been very successful on it, but it took too much effort for me. You are totally right that every body is different!
There is a book about eating for your blood type that is really really interesting! The premise of it is that different blood types process food differently because of their body chemistry. I'm O+ and it reccommended a protien based diet and said that many O blood types have problems with dairy and cruciforous veggies, both of which I do! It also said that many O's also have problems with foods that spike blood sugar which is also true for me. Super interesting!
If anyone is interested I can post the synopsis for each type...
