Re: Product spotlight: diaper bags

  • Sorry for a double this week. The holidays last week delayed a post and I don't want to get too off schedule!

  • Thanks @runwmusic! I have a cheap one off amazon that a million other people have, backpack style, and it’s totally fine. Highly recommend the backpack style. Idk if I’m going to get a new one that fits more stuff or not.
  • I have a jujube be right back backpack diaper bag from DS that is still in excellent condition and I will be using again. I highly recommend the backpack style bags.
  • +1 for cheap backpack style on Amazon. It's so much easier to carry (and have dh carry without feeling girly). Look for something with a large opening so you can easily see what's inside. Like @chaos-and-coffee I'm not sure if I'll get another larger now that there will be 2 under 2 and in diapers.
  • I have a huge Skip Hop bag and a changing pad (discussed in diapering thread) I bring and mostly keep in the car these days. It usually has enough to handle any foreseeable emergency. We took it everywhere when DS was tiny.  After DS was off bottles I just started sticking whatever I was most likely to need in my purse. DH wears a lot of cargo pants, so there's usually a burp cloth in one of his pockets for runny noses or other emergencies.

I always always have a wet bag in my purse just in case of a costume change, messy toddler utensils, etc.

  • This sounds minor, but I have had two diaper bags with my son, one with a black interior and the other with an off-white interior. It amazed me how much difference the lighter colored lining made on how well I could see the contents as I was digging through looking for something (inevitably at the bottom). Also, I agree with the others regarding the backpack style.
  • I have a jujube backpack diaper bag for my daughter and it’s great. I definitely recommend a backpack style.

I am retiring mine once the baby comes and replacing it with an Eddie Bauer backpack. It’s nicer looking and the side pocket is actually a wipe dispenser - which is so worth it! We use wipes for everything, and easy access like that, is perfect.
  • I went through THREE amazon backpack style changing bags in six months before I gave up and upgraded to a skip hop backpack that lasted two years. Now we just use a standard backpack but I will probably research another diaper specific one for baby! Not amazon as I had no luck!
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I've never figured out the side wipe pocket. Won't they dry out if I leave it open? I just take Tha pack out every time. I'm sure I'm missing something
  • I’ve used a few different Vera Bradley diaper bags. I definitely like the back pack style too. Hands free is the best. I’m not sure if I’ll get a new one for this baby or not. But if I do I will stick with a Vera Bradley. They held up really well and I loved them.
