We love our glider but I still use it with ds for naps and bedtime. I feel silly getting a second one but not sure how else it would work. Any stm have two littles close in age? What did you do?
This is perfect timing because I have been trying to find one with a decent rating for a week. Most of them sound cheaply made and either fall apart or are noisy. The two I picked out are here:
I'd actually prefer one of the newer dutailier models but they're very expensive. I like the ottoman for the forever eclectic but it's got some bad reviews and I'm concerned about it's longevity. Any thoughts on these? Hopefully the links work, I haven't tried that yet
@SpartanCat I’m not positive but pretty sure my glider is a dutailer. I bought the floor model on clearance when the babies r us near me went out of business. Then I got a pouf ottoman from Etsy. Works just fine and we use it every day.
I’m in the same boat as @runwmusic, but really want a rocker/recliner, if anyone has recs for that. If this baby is anything like DS, who only slept on me for the first 6 months, a recliner would be way easier to sleep in. If I do end up with an RCS, it’ll be nice too because I can’t get in and out of bed right away.
I need to find a good, small ottoman for my rocker. My short little legs barely reach the floor 😂 Recommendations welcome!
We have an heirloom rocking chair from DH's side that will go to DS1's new room while the current rocker stays in the nursery. DH's special chair didn't work for me for feedings or long naps on me because the arms are really low.
I suggest sitting in as many chairs as you can before you choose. Pretend to feed your baby. Pretend to be stuck for hours. Imagine where you'll stash snacks and water. Figure out how you'll clean up spit. Try getting out while carrying 15+ lbs against your chest and shoulder. Is it comfy to rest your head somewhere while gently bouncing a baby and singing twinkle twinkle for the ten thousandth time? Are the arms agiod height for you and your future toddler to read stories together while they insist on holding no less than seventeen stuffies? You'll know when you find it.
I like our cheap glider with Ottoman for feeding babies-so many of the more expensive ones don't go up high enough to support my head, which I really want OMTN. Ours was just one of the cheapest exposed wood frame with removeable cushions from BRU-but they're similar to the BBB or Target options. It was right around $200. Comfort for me was most important with a gliding stool with it- my feet on a stationary stool is super uncomfortable, and again, the head rest.
We do have real recliners built into our couch, so I have somewhere for sleeping upright if need be, and snuggling with multiple kiddos. But it doesn't rock. The rocking low back recliners for big money seemed silly to me. I'd rather just a lazy boy for that, but, again, I wouldn't enjoy rocking in that. Or a regular rocking chair-that motion makes me feel like I'm going to fall over backwards.

Honestly, got ours off the side of the road. Repainted, recovered the cushion, and it works great 🤷🏻♀️ So keep an eye out for friendly neighbors giving things away for free 😊

@chaos-and-coffee the dutailier ones look really nice. I wish I could try one. We don't have a good place to try out furniture. We must have a small target, I don't think I've ever seen gliders there
@alli392 I have a mental block on used furniture due to past experiences I can do like hardwood stuff that's cleanable but any kind of soft cushion is hard for me to handle.
@SpartanCat I think the brand probably disappeared or changed names when BRU went under. But it is very similar to these. Not pretty, but cheap, easy, and effective, looks just like my mom had in 1995 with my sister. Mine was the bottom of the barrel Shermag brand.

Could not for the life of me tell you what ours is called, what the brand was, etc., but things to keep in mind - make sure the cushions can be easily cleaned, you’re SUPER comfy in it for a long stretch, and your back and head are supported. I actually ended up sleeping in mine (like, as my bed) for several weeks due to postpartum complications that made it impossible for me to lie flat, so the glider will always have a special place in my heart. When we first tested them out at BBB, we just sat in all the chairs they had available to try, and most were not that comfy but this one made both my husband and I want to stay in it and fall asleep. If you have the chance to test a bunch of chairs out, I’d say look for one that makes you feel that way too.
