Firstly congrats on the embryos!
So how your cycle is following ER depends on many things - and can be different cycle to cycle. Especially if you did any birth control before the ER cycle that can often throw it off for the next one as your body tries to take back control. If you’re planning a medicated FET your doctor is right - don’t worry, the meds are designed to take control again.
As an extra, if you know a short LP or low progesterone are issues, then make sure they test your progesterone one or two days before transfer, then again a few days after - and if either is lower than they like to see it they should keep increasing until it’s in the right range. They should also check your estrogen level each time too - as the two need to be well balanced (and sometimes low progesterone is related to low estrogen!). Some REs don’t like testing progesterone as it is cyclical and so you never know if you have measured a high or low point or somewhere in between - also any pessaries don’t go fully into the bloodstream. But they should take all that into account when they know what level they want to see you at.

"This is all getting very confusing. I just want to stick you with needles. Is that too much to ask?"

And they say romance is dead....

@kpearse99 thank you dear friend! That really super sucks about insurance not covering IVF. Really glad you're feeling optimistic about the new protocol for your next IUI. I'm rooting for you that this is it! FX FX!

thank you for the reassurance. I was on BCP prior to the ER so that makes sense. I've never had an LP defect or low P but my RE goes a little overboard with the monitoring (IMO) so I'll be going in constantly leading up to/following the transfer which I used to be annoyed by but am finding more reassuring these days.

@inthewoods23 we chose to mask the sex results. As much as I want to know what we're having I don't want to have to choose what we put in there in the first place, if that makes any sense.

@kiki047 awesome news about the embryos! Obviously I can't top the advice from emmasemm but I wanted to let you know my case was a little different. I do not ovulate on my own except for maybe a few times a year so I never had a normal LP. Also 10 days after my ER my ovary flipped so that messed everything up even more. But it sounds like they are going to be doing some thorough monitoring so they should catch any potential issues. I had my estrogen and progesterone checked multiple times before starting any meds for my FET and obviously throughout the whole process. @kpearse99 That is basically our exact insurance situation. No limit to IUI's but no coverage for IVF. It's crazy. But I guess I shouldn't complain and keep on with the IUI's until something sticks.

@kiki047 Wonderful news! And thank you so much for your kind words. I don't feel brave a lot of the time, but I definitely think that everyone else on here totally is. Sometimes it takes someone else saying it for it to click.

Hi ladies! Sorry for only lurking & not participating these two weeks. I will try joining earlier next week.

(And sorry for jumping in & post questions without actual participation...)

Is taking birth control pills before a stim cycle solely for scheduling purposes? Or there are medical reasons? My RE suggested me to take BC starting CD3 (today is CD1), but I really don’t want to be on pills while me and DH are enjoying Hawaii during what could have been my fertile window!

@pom9207 for my clinic it's both. BC helps controls hormones a bit and it allows the clinic to get you on their schedule. One of the nurses told me they can put you on BC anywhere from 18 days up to 35 days so that the IVF or FET schedule can be worked into their bookings. This also allows me the ability to adjust the schedule for my needs.

For example, I'm going to be out of town the first weekend in March. If the timing came out to needing to do BW and US during those days, my clinic can just add a few days of BC to push the appointment to a day when I'm available.

It might be different if you're doing a natural FET cycle instead of a medicated one.

@pom9207 Sorry if I missed it, I haven't been around a ton lately but does this mean you've had the MRI or CT to check for the tumour? Are you moving ahead with IVF? My RE said he put me on BC to regulate my cycle so that they could make sure that my baseline really was a baseline and that all my follicles were at the same stage. That way when they start stims they have more confidence in knowing that the ones that are developing really are the stronger ones and not just the few that were already a little bigger than the rest. They said 10 days was the min. amount of time I could be on the pill before starting stims, and it could be up to 30 days if the scheduling isn't working out (but they don't like doing that because he's a 'less is more' kinda doc). Good luck - feel free to PM me anytime with questions. Coincidentally we also went to Hawaii two cycles before we started IVF. Honestly, as much as it feels like being on BC might ruin the romance or feel like it puts you on the bench during what would have been your FW, it also took a huge weight off my shoulders because it felt like someone else was taking the wheel for a little while *cue Jesus Takes the Wheel playing in my head*.

I saw my RE this afternoon and he said he is okay with either no BC or a very brief 10 day course of BC.

I guess taking BC prior to a treatment cycle is more common than I thought!
