How are you feeling? Pretty good. I've been having sciatica flare ups and I'm really easily winded, but otherwise doing well for the most part.
Raves/Rants: We owe my in-laws an overnight visit and I'm dreading it. Sleep is so hard in my own very comfortable bed, with a master bathroom. I can't imagine I'll sleep well on MH's childhood bed (yes, same mattress even). I know they want us there for a few days, but at this point they're lucky I'm willing to do a single night. 🤷♀️
Questions: Nope.
GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? (stolen from group 3) Oh, there are so many, I'm sure! Anything that requires crafting abilities or artistic/musical talent. I've got none of that at all.
@ruby696 Wow.... they really need to upgrade their bed situation.

How are you feeling? I have a cold/sinus congestion and I've had awful headaches for the past few days, so pretty crappy from that since I don't sleep well either. Pregnancy wise I'm alright, I'm realizing that I need to start weaning how much I carry DS. I carry him a lot and it's starting to impact me at times. Other than that I'm still just nervous about the soft markers from our AS. Just a ball of sunshine over here .
Raves/Rants: We went to a college basketball game last night and it was really fun, it's huge in our city and our team is really good. I could rant more today but I'm gonna stop at all the above stuff.
Questions: Nope
GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? (stolen from group 3) Anything requiring musical or artistic talent (like painting/drawing). Probably also being an attorney, that type of job just isn't in my blood.
How are you feeling? Pretty great overall. Over the weekend it seemed like some of my stomach/food/nausea came back. Nothing too crazy, just nothing sounded good and smells of certain foods were off putting.
Raves/Rants: I am so excited to not have too many plans this month and just get my house back and veg out!
Questions: Nope
GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? Massage Therapist. My hands get fatigued super quickly when giving DH a neck massage.
@ruby696 They really need to at least get a new mattress, would an air mattress be more comfortable?
@rachelg777 I plan on asking my doctor at my next appointment about carrying DD. I can tell that it is getting harder, but she is also still pretty light, so I don't know if it is really a big deal.
How are you feeling? Had a headache from Friday to Sunday but none this morning. Getting over a cold so that’s happy.
Raves/Rants: christmas is over! Need to get the stuff out of the living room but that’s my plan for this weekend
Questions: None
GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? (stolen from group 3) being a singer because apparently I’m tone deaf and also something where I was alone all day like in a lab because apparently I must talk a lot.
@m6agua Their house is always freezing cold. I feel like an air mattress would be miserable. I would prefer not to go at all, but MIL can't understand why we don't want to spend a week at a time there (cause that's how I want to use my vacation time), so I can be uncomfortable for a night. Plus, I'm cutting off travel at weeks, so this will be my last trip for a long time.
Also, a massage therapist is a good one! I would hate touching strange people. Especially strange men with back hair. Not my cup of tea, at all. 🤢
@rachelg777 I hope you start feeling better soon. At least then you wouldn't be extra miserable. Just regular miserable. 🙂
@ruby696 my MIL has that same "why don't you want to stay here" mentality. Luckily MH also doesn't want to spend extended weeks with her so our visits are always short. They would be even shorter if we had to sleep on his childhood mattress though!
@rachelg777 sorry if you said this already elsewhere, but did you end up deciding to pursue any additional testing re: the soft markers?
@m6agua I've had some food regression too, I was back on the bread and butter train this weekend.
@JStill0603 sometimes I think I would like a job where I got to work alone a lot but then I think I'd just get lonely with no one to help pass the day
How are you feeling? Everything's feeling a lot more real now that we know it's a boy. We went to buy buy baby this weekend to try out strollers and such, and it was cute to see MH in a baby carrier for the first time 😂 Feeling pretty good physically.
Raves/Rants: I made the mistake of starting some daycare research last night and immediately started stressing about the cost. Not a great thing to look up before bed. On the plus side, looking forward to a weekend in the middle of the week with having tomorrow and Wednesday off.
Questions: nope
GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? (stolen from group 3) I don't think I would be good at anything in medicine. Too squeamish for all that.
@heybritt As of right now we are just going to continue on as normal, it still in the back of my mind making me nervous but I'm trying to remind myself how low the risks are with a negative NIPT and normal growth in that it doesn't seem worth it to pursue invasive testing. Thanks for asking. Daycare is stressful, I hope you are able to find one in an acceptable price range that you feel comfortable with!
@m6agua yes! January is definitely a month for no plans and I'm thrilled.
@heyybritt yes, daycare can be so overwhelming! I'm thankful that our current daycare will have a spot available for the baby, but I am stressing about costs. With minimum wage going up in Illinois our daycare prices already increased 10% in the past few months and are only going to continue the upward trend. Add to that the cost of a newborn in daycare and I'll be living on Ramen for a few years.

How are you feeling? Pretty good. I’ve been really thirsty lately, so just trying to drink a ton of water whenever I need to.
Raves/Rants: We’re taking DD to the zoo tomorrow for a “Noon Year’s Eve” event, along with my SIL and niece. I was looking forward to it until my mom invited herself along. I love my mom, but ever since my parents got divorced 10 years ago, I’ve often felt like we have to babysit my mom whenever she has nothing else to do. She’s an amazing nana to DD, which makes it even harder to say that we just need our own family time sometimes.
Questions: Moms of 2+, did you attempt to potty train your oldest before your next was born? What’s the age difference between them?
GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? Well first of all, I’m lol’ing at how many of you said something musical/artsy or teaching, because that’s literally my job 😂 I would be terrible at anything that didn’t require me to interact with other humans. I would definitely need a social element in any job.
@soprano19 We did not, but DS was only 18 months when DD was born. I would be concerned about regression and one more stressful thing for your DD to deal with when baby comes, depending on her age. But if she's ready, go for it and see if she picks it up quickly. You can always stop if she doesn't seem ready.
@ruby696 she turned 2 in October. She is super into the potty book we have and also sitting on her little toilet fully clothed and telling us she is going 😂 but she doesn’t actually want to take off her diaper and try to go in it. I think the thing that will help us most is that she goes to daycare full time during the school year, so they will be able to reinforce whatever we are trying to do at home. I know it needs to start at home though. I’m hoping to try switching to underwear/pull-ups over our February break when we’ll be home for several days.
@soprano19 We didn't have much luck with pull ups because DD treated them like a diaper and they do not absorb like diapers. She would smell and get diaper rash. But she did great in regular panties. We started by spending a weekend with her naked. When she'd pee on the floor, we'd gently correct her and tell her that pee goes in the potty. Then we'd go with her to the bathroom so she could sit on it. My kids also did much better with a step stool and the kids potty insert with handles that goes on the regular toilet. They hated the little portable potty and both pretty much refuses to use it.

How are you feeling? Today, like crap. I was doing so good at not getting sick but I caught something being around so many people over the holidays. I'm taking my temp a lot to make sure I keep it at a safe level. I have a terrible migraine and because of this I'm very bored because lights and sounds hurt so very much.
Raves/Rants: I've been able to feel baby this past week!

GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? (stolen from group 3).I also wouldn't be able to be a massage therapist. I would not be able to touch people.
@ruby696 interesting about the potty preferences. DD is 18 months, so really too young to potty train, but dr said at her appt that we could get a potty and start letting her sit on it if she wants.
@soprano19 Noon year’s eve sounds fun! Wish we had something like that here. Good luck finding a good balance with your mom - sounds tough.

How are you feeling? Lots of indigestion / reflux. Also, boobs have gotten really big - wider than me - and started hurting so much. Ugh.
Raves/Rants: Had a good visit with the in-laws (they came to us). So that was nice and a bit surprising. DD is sick, so we will be lying low for the next few days, which is good and bad.
Questions: nope
GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? (stolen from group 3) Definitely anything medical (ugh). One of the reasons why I’m not a big fan of pregnancy overall (despite the good result at the end, one hopes) - lots of pokes and prods and blood and etc.
How are you feeling? I'm overheating more often which is weird since I'm usually always cold, even when I was pregnant with DD. Yesterday during my u/s I got crazy overheated and nauseous and only cooled down after making H take off my socks and the tech turned down the temp in the room and gave me a cool washcloth for my forehead.
Raves/Rants: Daycare was closed yesterday for weather so I had to bring DD to the u/s which definitely wasn't the plan. I packed plenty of snacks and activities such as a coloring book, finger puppets, etc. She was so patient and well-behaved the whole time. It took over an hour because some of the shots were harder to get with the angle baby boy was in and she didn't get even a little restless until right at the end. She was fascinated by being able to see her baby brother like that and was very sweet to give me some of her snacks when I was overheating/nauseous.
Questions: None
GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? Lawyer, definitely
@ruby696 - I totally empathize with you on the IL sleeping situation. H's parents have always had guests sleep on this horrible sofa bed that gives me instant back pain. H and I started moving the mattress to the floor just to get a bit more support, but it didn't help much. Thankfully, when we bought our house this summer and bought a comfortable guest bed and frame on Amazon, they loved it so much they finally upgraded theirs last month. Good thing too because I'd already told H when we found out we were pregnant that we were going to have to stay at a hotel or something because there was no way I could do that crappy bed while pregnant. I think your staying one night is generous given the circumstances!
@rachelg777 I know I need to stop carrying DD as much as I do since it's getting uncomfortable, but it's so hard to stop, especially at moments like daycare drop-off when I just want to get her into the building and not dawdle in the parking lot.
@heyybritt & @bananapanda Daycare costs are so stressful. We have a spot lined up for baby at the daycare DD is in, but the costs have me totally stressed out. The costs are even pushing me to have to return to work at 6 weeks because that's all the leave I will have saved up and can't afford to go without pay - at least I will be able to bring baby to work with me for a bit to make the transition a little easier. Definitely look into what help you can get through your state. I was surprised by how high the income limit was for some assistance here, though H and I still make just too much to get it.
@soprano19 I would love to have DD potty trained before baby gets here. She's 3yrs 2 mos and talks a big talk about wanting to use the potty, but refuses to go most of the time. She even is back to not caring when her diaper is wet/poopy and will flat out lie when we ask if she needs to be changed. Unless your DD is really showing signs of being ready, I honestly wouldn't add that stress to your life. (That said, some kids just take to it and it isn't a stress at all, so maybe you will be luckier than I!)
@soprano19 my DD turned 2 in September and just potty trained over Thanksgiving. She had been using a little potty since last December since she had shown interest. We really didn't push it but sometimes she would go sit on it and sometimes she would scream and kick and refuse (we never forced it). She slowly started using it more but still went in diapers consistently and wouldn't tell us she went and never wanted to go at daycare when they asked her to use the potty. When she would get diaper rash etc and we let her have diaper free time we realized she was really good about letting us know when she needed to go. Then we bought her some underwear and she was SUPER excited to wear underwear like mommy (I think the book "Big Girl Panties" helped, and it's still one of her favorites!). So then she would wear underwear in the evening and do really well. Over Thanksgiving we decided to just ditch diapers and see and surprisingly enough when she had underwear on instead of a diaper she would consistently tell us she had to go and make it to the potty on time. She still doesn't like to go when asked (it has to be her idea), but she's doing really well. I think there's definitely something to be said for naked! And I've also heard several people say that pull-ups really slowed the process down so I would try to just do naked/undies only and see how it goes. I also know that it's probably not worth pushing if she's not interested. The best advice we got was that once they're ready they really just about train themselves which was kind of our case so if she isn't quite ready it might not be worth the headache. Good luck!
@lajoliedreamer yea we definitely don't qualify for any of the assistance. DH has mentioned getting a nanny or something that might be a little cheaper, but I really like the interaction she gets at daycare so I'm pretty sure we will just suck it up. Unless prices go up sky high. Then we might have to look into daycare in Missouri (even though we live in IL we both work in MO).
Question - has anyone been told they need to limit carrying their toddler? My daughter is maybe 25-30lb and I still carry her regularly. When I get exhausted I try to convince her to walk or go to DH more than I used to, but as long as I feel ok I have been doing it quite often still. Is this okay?
@bananapanda I have not been told to limit- but I haven't asked. My DS is in the same weight range. I just know that I carry him quite frequently and for me personally it is something I should start limiting now so it isn't an issue when the new baby comes and I can't carry them both. We also live in a townhouse and I probably carry/have him walk up and down the stairs about 50/50 - so doing that many times a day I have been starting to feel it (mostly weekends since he is at daycare during the day on weekdays).
@lajoliedreamer@bananapanda thanks for the input! That’s all good advice. DD isn’t 100% ready yet and I’m definitely in the “don’t push it” camp when it comes to most parenting things.
How are you feeling? I feel pretty great! I'm finally getting my energy back again and feeling more active and motivated! I sometimes get that fun nesting feeling again, but I don't know if it's too early for that!
Raves/Rants: I have a really bad ear infection and am on Day 7 of antibiotics for it, but it is still plugged and hurting. I feel like a baby, but I'm so tired of my ear bothering me. I also like to do sensory deprivation float tanks, and can't while I have an ear infection.
Questions: none right now!
GTKY: I think I'd be bad at being a lab tech - I'm terrible around needles and get queasy around blood and other bodily fluids!
Hope all you mamas are doing well, and I look forward to being more active in this group!
