Happy Monday friends! This weekend I survived (and even enjoyed) one family holiday party, one adult holiday party, and one kids holiday activity. Whew! I also grocery shopped and did some laundry.
Looking forward to relishing this school week as it’s our last “normal” week before two weeks of break. Hoping to stay on routine and get my house in order before the kids are off and ready for Christmas.
@momoftoddlers In a similar way I'm trying to keep things normal this week before it all goes down hill for the holidays. We don't have any kids currently - so it is mostly about getting my butt to work on time, getting things done, making an effort to get to the gym, etc.
I started my reformer pilates class this weekend & have another class Thursday! My tush & thighs are so sore but in the best way haha I'm hoping it helps with birth and postpartum.
I was able to finally leave the house this weekend with H. He is slowly regaining strength and it’s great. He’s still very dependent on me for pretty much everything, but it seems there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Woo!
Today I have some errands to run and get the last few gifts checked off my list. Cannot wait to be done with that! I think I’ll do a Trader Joe’s haul while I’m out also. I’m Craving their little frosted gingerbread men. Yum. I also have to put together the activity table I got for DS, and then wrap, wrap, wrap. I think it’s going to take me forever and I need to get it done while DD is in school this week.
I also have two doctors appointments this week for myself, a PT appointment for H, and his post-op appointment with the surgeon. I’m tired just thinking about this week. I cannot wait to (hopefully) have a nice relaxing week next week before H and I head to Nashville for a long weekend. He has a work conference and I’m tagging along for the ride (so I can sleep all day and explore Nashville some). Woo!
Happy Monday, ladies! We did Santa pictures, carriage rides, gingerbread house, salt-dough handprint ornaments, and I made a nice dinner last night and had family over... we also finally have our new treadmill so I as able to get full workouts in both days in less than an hour! So nice! Last week of work here before (almost) two weeks off. Students are gone so work will be SLOW all week... good and bad! My best friend and one of my brothers get into town this week too. Super excited! Still need to get stocking stuffers for H and the kids!
@miss.sally I'm glad H is getting mobility and some independence back! @chichiphin I love Pilates. I so wish I had a place that offered it near work so I could do that on my lunch breaks! @momoftoddlers Yay for enjoying the parties!
@miss.sally, good luck with all the appointments.. hope you have fun on your trip to Nashville.
I'm looking forward to the school's Christmas break, mostly because DD will be home from school and she can help DH out with DS. DH might be able to get more sleep during the day.. which is always good, because then he's in a better mood overall.
I went to a work Christmas party, and, though the terrible coworker claimed she would be there, she wasn't - so it turned out to be an OK time, as far as work parties go. I was pretty much the only one not drinking so it was kind of funny to watch them all get sillier as the night went on. The party ended at 10 pm - just in time, really, if it would have went on any longer they would have started making fools of themselves. After that DH and I went out for his birthday for a bit. I was exhausted by the time we got home, since my 'bedtime' is usually 11 ish. All of the walking around didn't help either. I could definitely tell I've reached 3rd tri!
@EmilyLove25 I am so excited to do all the things someday w/ our babe that you listed! I hope it makes MH like xmas more than he does--he is such a grinch & I really love this time of year.
@miss.sally Our closest TJs is 45 mins away, or more when there is traffic. I am jelly of your TJs trip, is what I'm saying, but I am sure my mom and I will go when I'm up there for two weeks--must closer to her place. Soooo that'll be nice. I'm glad there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
I JUSTTTT submitted final grades! I'll be traveling "home" for the holidays starting Thurs. I am flying in & then DH is driving up with the dogs. I feel relieved at having submitted final grades, but also this means I can't ignore allll the things I've been ignoring bc I've been putting all my time into grading (except briefly yesterday when I went to BWW to watch the Eagles win & then DH & I went out at night Fri. and Sat. nights for a soiree and then ArtWalk--but I can't grade nonstop *all day* anyway.
@miss.sally Glad to hear you and H got out of the house! Enjoy Nashville. Love that city! @EmilyLove25 Your weekend sounds magical!
AFM, DH put together the crib for new baby this weekend, and it's been fun seeing DS make the connection that there will in fact be a new baby here soon. I needed to make a Target run, and DH said the magic words, "Do you just want to go by yourself?" YES! So I had an hour to myself to buy what we needed, but also spent WAY too much on stocking stuffers. But it was lovely! For now, I'm just trying to make it through the work week. Our email and sharepoint are transitioning with our new(ish) company, so all our main means of communication are down, which is super annoying! I have another U/S on Wednesday, so I'm looking forward to seeing how baby brother is doing.
Well we made it to the mall but all three of us (myself, DH and DS) were all so exhausted that we couldn’t make it into Trader Joe’s. I’m bummed because I love it, but also there was NO way I was going to make it through the store. Sooooooo I’m going to place a prime order from Whole Foods instead. Lol
Had a super productive and fun weekend, went grocery shopping, wrapped all the Christmas gifts, went to a holiday party, finally finished putting up the outdoor decorations (the weather has been awful every weekend, but Sunday was gorgeous here) and had an ugly sweater reunion brunch with some high school friends. Also baked for our work holiday party which was today. DH has been working on mounting our TV in our living room and running all the wires down to the basement... his version of nesting I guess. 😉
Everyone’s been so busy! I had my local moms club holiday party, then a Sat playdate, then only our 2nd date night since DS’s birth that night, allll the errands Sunday, and then zoo lights at night.
I took DS to two library times this morning and then spent his nap baking and doing laundry. He only just woke up so we are in for a late night. I just was really enjoying not having him “help” with my chores I should have woken him up sooner though. Whoops.
@mrsvp614 target alone is the best!! Also you’re awesome for getting your crib set up already!
We had a bunch of extended family and social engagements, plus I had a performance yesterday, but last night we made beef stew and Chanukah sugar cookies and we listened to Chanukah music while DD danced for an hour. It was just the greatest.
It's raining super hard here and thundering like crazy and both the (60 lb) doggies are hiding right next to/under my desk. It's very cute. They sprang up and barked at the loudest boom. ALSO, now that the semester is over, I won't know what day of the week it is until Jan., so--please forgive me in advance.
I drank my sugar drink and I’m waiting for my blood draw....today was our staff holiday potluck so I had several cookies/brownies. I hope that doesn’t affect my results! It was hours ago so it should have metabolized, I guess?
Our school nurse said she’s sent several kids home with vomiting today. I’m guessing we have norovirus or something other “stomach flu” virus spreading at school. Washing my hands every few minutes like mad to avoid getting sick.
@kantobean ah. I’ve heard you shouldn’t eat anything sugary/carbs before the test, but not sure how many hours back that goes. They should have told you that though!
my doctor told me to not have a carb or sugar breakfast.
@kantobean, I had a couple of rolos a few hours before my test, and failed miserably.. lol. I hope you do better than I did! I suspect I might have failed even without doing that, though, since my levels were so high (211) that they didn't even allow me to do the 3 hour test. I have an appointment with a diabetes educator on Tues. I was thinking of calling them back though and letting them know about the chocolate I had pre-test.
@silverhope, my midwife didn't say anything about what I should or shouldn't eat before the test, but I tried to keep it in check a bit on my own knowing that it might skew my results (but caved on the rolos.) I ate sensibly otherwise on that day. so idk why they didn't tell me to avoid anything.. maybe they wanted a reading of how their patients 'usually' eat? with my other 2 pregnancies, they never told me to avoid anything before the test either.. and with those pregnancies, I passed the test easily without watching what I ate.
@miss.sally, hope you were able to get some good rest!
@kantobean After having taken a glucose reading 4x a day for 7 days, I can say--a cookie or two shouldn't matter if you aren't at risk for GD anyway. What got me on the one day my result was bad after lunch was that I was drinking a sugary drink *up until right before* I did the blood draw. FX that you pass!
Just heard a hilarious, but also WTF story from a co-worker. Apparently, the name he was given at birth, is not the name he has now. His original name was Kevin, but after his parents had something monogrammed with his initials, his name was changed to Devin.... BECAUSE HIS INITIALS WERE KKK! I'm like, there is NO possible way they didn't realize that, right? I've had to think of every possible nickname, initial arrangement, etc, when thinking of name options.
OMG!!! you'd think people would realize but @mrsvp614 I have an acquaintance who is a K name, her husband is a K name & their last name is a K name. They had a frickin' KKK monogram spot light on the wedding dance floor. This means her, the husband, the planner AND the venue had to be that obtuse.
@mrsvp614@chichiphin Omg talk about a planning fail!!! Bahahahhaa! My partner is all about thinking initials, nicknames, etc. just to ensure that sort of thing doesn't happen, lol!
I need to rant a little. I’m so annoyed that there are ZERO “boy” shirts for Frozen. Other than the odd Olaf or Sven design. DS loves Elsa and Anna and the only shirts with them are frilly and sparkly and cut for girls. BOYS LIKE PRINCESSES ALSO. Grr. I may end up designing one myself.

Successfully baked 7 batches of Christmas cookies yesterday. It was awesome because we did it at my aunt’s with her teenagers and they all took turns helping with cookies and helping with kids, so I got the right balance of baking, fun, and rest. Helped me get back in the Christmas spirit. 🎄 Today is my 4 year old’s last day of school before break so I plan to stay in my pajamas with my 2 year old and relax while I can. Luckily she’s a cuddle bug.
@miss.sally I’ve noticed that about the Frozen clothes too. So annoying that we haven’t gotten to the point of more gender neutral. Even a lot of the girl stuff is over the top frilly and not my style.
@miss.sally Do little boy clothes fit differently than little girl clothes or could you buy a more gender-neutral looking Frozen shirt meant for a girl? One of the reasons we haven't revealed sex is bc how gendered baby clothes are--makes me crazy.
@momoftoddlers I just got in to my Dad's house last night and there are 12 million cookies here. How will we resist!
AFM: I'm in south jersey. It's cold, but it was boiling hot and INSANELY dry in the third floor attic bedroom last night that I stay in. My little humidifier didn't do much! But I'm happy to be here & looking forward to.... xmas shopping!!!!! Which I still desperately need to do!!!! Ahhhh!!!! And having cookies for breakfast.
Flying pregnant was kind of not fun. I was so fidgety. I have... 4 more flights between now and Jan. 15, and then no more flying for me until I give birth. I have to fly home (a flight with a stopover then another flight) and then I'm being flown to a job interview in early Jan. (2 short flights, one plane each). Take-offs and landings were the worst, but luckily one of the flights was only an hour and the other ~an hour and a half (though actually slightly shorter). The trip back down will be a little shorter & I'm going to indulge myself in an aisle seat this time. I hate paying to choose a seat, but I think it's necessary. I didn't HAVE to pee on the slightly longer flight when I had the window seat, but it would have been nice to get up and walk around-- I would have if I had the aisle seat, like I did on the shorter flight--I got up to pee just to get up. Anyway. It all was fine, but it just makes me unnecessarily nervous (even though baby moved around like crazy most of the time) so I'm looking forward to that being over. That being said, has to be better than 23 hours (each way) in a car (for my trip to NJ) or 7.5 hours in a car (each way) for my job interview in Jan.!
Made it through the week! In 10 minutes the bell will ring and make it official, but my last class ended a while ago. Yay! We sang a concert today and my kids did SO well. We’ve sung that program for 5 performances this month, and today they just knocked it out of the park. It was a nice way to end the semester.
One parent at the performance said to me “I guess this is the last time we’ll see you for the year!” LOL at thinking I was giving birth in the next two weeks and that I could take 5 months of leave time! I said I would be back in January and be working basically until the day I give birth!
@kagesstarshroom unfortunately girl clothes are cut way differently. And I haven’t seen a single item of frozen clothing even CLOSE to being gender neutral. It’s just annoying.
@miss.sally I have a mom in another BMB that has a son obsessed with Frozen. She recommended Kohl's Frozen shirts - they did at one point have a bunch actually labeled as "boys" with the princesses on them, but they don't have that anymore. Looking through their girls shirts online though, there seem to be some with the princesses on more neutral shirt colors without frills/girly cuts that I think could work for a DS!
I’m so ready for a break. DD tested positive for the flu on Friday. I took DS in yesterday because he started coughing and has a low grade fever but his was negative. So he just has a cough. Now I’m coughing like crazy but I don’t have a fever so I don’t think it’s the flu thank goodness. Meanwhile H is still recovering from surgery so he can’t help at all, plus I’m taking care of him. Trying to take care of two sick kids plus an adult while sick and 7 months pregnant two days before Christmas is not my ideal. I have t even started wrapping gifts yet and I still have a few kinds of cookies yet to make. Send help. And cough drops.
@miss.sally so sorry your daughter has the flu (and your son is sick too and you still have to nurse yh post-surgery). I really hope u catch a break and can get some rest after the holidays!
@miss.sally, take care of yourself. that sounds rough. I hope everyone gets better soon.
last night, a neighbor boy was knocking on my door nervously and I almost didn't answer because he's gotten so tall I hardly recognized him (he hung out with DD all the time when they were little.) he had a little box in his hand for DD for Christmas. It was adorable.. he must have gotten her a little ring or something (I didn't hover over her or watch her open it or anything) .. but, yikes. she's 13. it's starting.
@miss.sally sending healing powers your way! That sounds like no fun! @kantobean happy Hanukkah! @treetop19 now I need to know what's in that box! Update us please!!
@keeksie84, it was a necklace, to which I breathed a sigh of relief. lol. I still have to send DD back over there to thank him at least.. we were planning on baking cookies and giving him a plate for his family, but unfortunately, the cookies didn't turn out all that well (and I haven't had time to make another batch.)
