38 wks. how to move things along quicker?

ladies, please help me! i am 38 weeks, i have been 1 cm for 4 weeks, lost my mucous plug on sunday, lost 2 pounds, nesting, very tired, nausea, and diarreha. i have all of the signs that she is getting ready to come, but my cervix isnt dialated enough for induction. any suggestions on how to move things along quicker?

Re: 38 wks. how to move things along quicker?

  • hell I myself would like to know as I am 39 weeks and EDD is Monday! Other than walking, sex, and Red Rasberry leaf tea thats all I know about and of which NONE have worked for me thusfar!

  • Who knows?  I've been contracting for 9 days now with every other sign and have given up any induction methods.  I have a feeling they just come when they are ready.

I am having sex tonight though, but mainly because I feel like I need to give it to DH before he has to go a while without it.  It will probably just make me cramp really badly.

  • i have actually tried rubbing my pressure points on my ankles, having sex, eating spicy food, and still nothing !
  • imo, every single last bit of "natural induction" talk is an old wive's tale.  that is what my doctor told me!  i can see walking helping the baby move lower, but i think babies come when they are ready.  as much as i wish i could make him come, like, yesterday!!!!!
  • I agree with the pps -- nothing I've tried has "worked." My doctor got my hopes up last week when I was 2 cm & 50% --- I get cramps, contractions... etc... but nothing ever goes anywhere. My little guy seems  quite happy where he is & I don't think I can coax him out until he's ready.
  • Unfortunately I think patience is the key.  I'm 38 weeks too, but for various reasons, I want to go late!  So, no tips here, sorry.
  • First off, realize that first time mom's are statistically more likely to go to 41 or 42 weeks.  A normal pregnancy is anywhere from 38 to 42 weeks, and some women just take a little bit longer.  My husband's aunt ALWAYS goes to 41 or 42 weeks, and she has had more than 8 kids, all 41 weeks or more.

Second... you DO NOT want to be induced if you can help it.  Inductions are WAY more painful, and if they got your dates a few weeks off, you could end up with a preemie and all kinds of health issues to deal with.  Inductions done accidentally before term are a major preventable cause of preemies in the U.S.

Third- You can take Evening Primrose Oil both orally and vaginally (at night, the liquid capsules).  I'm not sure about the amounts, since I'm 28 weeks with this pregnancy so I haven't started it yet, but it helps to ripen the cervix.

    Happy babygrowing!

  • I've tried everything also.  No such luck here.  I really don't want an induction, but once I hit 41 weeks OB will schedule one.
