For this week, let's talk books. What are we reading? Tell us sbout anything you're reading whether it's pregnancy related or not. Any recent favorites?
Right now I’m reading Educated by Tara Westover, so far pretty good! I have Jodi Picoult’s a spark of light and the tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris on deck. I have a winter break so good time to cozy up and read! Looking forward to seeing what you guys are reading.
Pregnancy related we have what to expect and browse through it occasionally. My OB recommended Don’t just stand there, a book for dads. It’s a short one. My husband hasn’t started it yet bc it’s very labor focused and we have a bit of time (hopefully!) before that.
I’m reading the 26th book in the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. But, I’m not really reading it often. I started it on the plane when we went to Disney and haven’t had a chance to pick it up since. I am excited about it, though.
I recently finished Sold On A Monday by Kristina McMorris and The Turn of The Key by Ruth Ware. Now I'm reading Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane. Looking forward to seeing what others are reading.
Pregnancy related, I'm skimming What to Expect. I also just purchased the most recent edition of Dr. Spock since a few coworkers recommended it. I'm looking for something that talks more about infancy stuff for FTMs, like what is tummy time and co-sleeping and the crying method. I've heard all these words but need some perspective on them.
For pleasure I'm rereading Sense & Sensibility, as I don't know if I could focus on a new book atm with all of the other information overload!
Preggo-wise I have What to Expect, but know that it tends to lean heavily more on the OB side, but I've also read the Birth Partner, which I really like the tone of. A little more empowering and offers more alternative natural options along the way. I'm all for modern medicine as well, but I like knowing all my options so I can make informed decisions.
I'm between books right now and just put a few on my Christmas wish list. I really want to read The German Midwife, as I'm a big fan of Kate Quinn and she gave it a rave review. Speaking of Kate Quinn, I loved The Alice Network and The Huntress! Also a Gillian Flynn fan so hoping for more from those two. Also, has anyone read The Testaments, the follow up to Handmaid's Tale? Curious for opinions before I dive in
For pregnancy stuff, I’ve just been skimming blogs to remind myself what I need to be doing at this point in the pregnancy because heck if I remember the last 2 pregnancies at this point.
For enjoyment, I’m reading Scythe by Neil Schusterman and hoping to have time to pick up Well if Ascension by Brandon Sanderson soon so I can finish Mistborn Era 1. (Highly recommend all things Brandon Sanderson if you like Fantasy that boarders on sci-fi)
@korthouse we have similar tastes in books, I love Kate Quinn and Gillian Flynn!
I am in a true crime book club so I am usually reading books for that, but it's a repeat for me this month so I can actually ready something else. I just started The Couple Next Door. My OB wants me to go off of work on modified bed rest at 32w, so I am planning to stock up on books soon since DD will still be in daycare and all I want to do is read all day.
@korthouse I'll Be Gone In The Dark by Michelle McNamara was so so good. Creepy, but good. Also, The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule was interesting with the resurgence of Ted Bundy's popularity this year.
@doraleigh35 I got I'll Be Gone In The Dark for my friend for her birthday so once she's done I plan on borrowing it from her! Adding The Stranger Beside Me to my list now
I just finished the book called "The Passengers" by John Marrs. (Released in 2019 - not based at all on the 2016 movie) It's set in the not too distant future in UK when they've got fully automatic self-driving cars that are supposedly unhackable, but then 8 different passengers have their self-driving cars hacked and broadcasted on the news and on social media for everyone to watch and decide who lives or dies. It's really interesting and suspenseful, and I definitely wasn't sure how it was going to end up.
I’ve been reading a ton of pregnancy related books. Recently, I’ve read, Expecting better, The Birth Partner and Natural Hospital Birth. I’ve also bought Crib Sheets and the FifthTrimester for post partum advice, but haven’t got to those yet!
For pleasure, my mom just gave me the book, Educated, but I haven’t started it yet!
I love hearing what everyone is reading! I will definitely be adding some of these to my list!
Pregnancy-related: I finished it already, but I plan to re-read Birth Without Fear by January Harsche (highly recommend). I also have 50 Things to Do Before You Deliver, which I’ve enjoyed. It is broken down by trimesters, and it helps me feel like I’m on track if I am reading it and I think “I’ve done that!”
For Pleasure: I recently finished Becoming by Michelle Obama, and I just started this book called Frenemies that I found for $1 at a used book store. It’s good so far, and I needed something light and fluffy. I plan to stock up on some of the most recommended books of 2019 and do more reading for pleasure after the holidays.
@literatureandink it's so crazy! Our book club meets over beers at a bar and I'm pretty sure the whole discussion consisted of "eff you, Ted". We actually did a screening of the Netflix Bundy movie after. I definitely want to read more of Ann Rule's books.

@Kathryn0903 It's one of my newer faves. All about strong complicated female characters!
I’m rereading my all time fave Little Women in preparation for the new movie which I’m excited for.

just started Still Life with Breadcrumbs by Anna Quindlen... I've also been reading the Hobbit for the past 3 months lol
@jenabary glad you shared about Birth Without Fear- I'll have to look into that!
