Re: December Symptoms

  • @heatherlynn321 me!!! I keep telling people I'm still tired and they always say "shouldn't you have some energy back?" I am still falling asleep early and easily.

@allie456 I blamed my extra burping on pregnancy and MH said this is the amount I normally burp 🙄 he's rude lol

  • I am just starting to get some energy back at 17 weeks, but like you was still exhausted at the first part of the second tri and wondering where the mysterious energy boost was.

  • @heatherlynn321 Me. Some days are better than othere, but I want to crawl into bed as soon as I get home. When I finally do go to bed, I'm asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. DH jokes that I'm asleep if I'm horizontal.
  • @heatherlynn321 I have more energy during the day but no problem whatsoever falling asleep as soon as the sun goes down. I never got that burst of second tri energy in my last pregnancy.

  • @heatherlynn321 me!! My uterus is definitely going through a growth spurt and my body is just exhausted. I teach in the evening. Today I had to warn my students that I'm exhausted and I'll be slow in class.

I've been getting the shoulder pain too from sleeping on my side. I go to acupuncture once a month, which I started pre pregnancy and I find that helps with everything. I also started going back to the chiropractor which definitely helped too, especially my neck. I was getting headaches daily but I haven't gotten one sense I went on Monday.

My boobs are huge!! I'm 16w 5d and I've already gone from a D to an E almost F. I've bought two bras and one of them no longer fits me. I have shirts that still fit my belly but my boobs are stretching them out. DH loves them, I on the other hand do not.
  • @heatherlynn321 Same. Except I'm exhausted until I'm in bed, and then boom insomnia. I am not pleased.
  • @jess09lynn Same about the boobs. Mine went from about a DD to G/H in the first trimester. Finding bras has been terrible.
  • @jess09lynn I’m a DD when not pregnant and an E/F while pregnant and nursing. It’s great fun (not really, I’m sobbing).

My pelvis and hips are so achy, is that a word? I know my pelvis is opening or spreading or whatever it's called, but I did not have this pain with DS. Also, +1 for waiting for my evergy boost. 17+1 and still tired.

I have started to feel little flutters of movement though, so all the pain and exhaustion is totally worth it 😊

    Eta: I'm 17+1 not 16+1
  • Last night, I had like this itchy attack. I was itchy everywhere- my legs, arms, stomach, face, ears...! It was so weird and so intense. Luckily it went away this morning. I don’t know if it is pregnancy related or not, but I didn’t use any different products or eat anything new. Has this happened to anyone else?

@lisush @rox7777 do you find you get bigger when your milk comes in? I found a bra in my size by Third Love and the cup shape looks like it will fit me. Only downside is it's $72.

@splashmountain that's exciting about the flutters! I can't wait to feel them.
  • @splashmountain I am having similar feeling with my hips and pelvis and this is #2 for me. I've noticed my gait is different and I'm having to adjust to it. 17+1 too.

@peachnectarine I haven't felt itchy, but I just read on one of my weekly things that you can start feeling itchy because your skin is starting to stretch.

  • peachnectarine I call it the itch. I get super scaly during pregnancy and very itchy. It sucks. Pregnancy dries out your skin, plus winter...

  • @jess09lynn I was swollen for the first few weeks, but I just wore sports bras and sleep nursing bras until we got past that stage. My third trimester size was my nursing size except for the first few weeks. I nursed for 2.5 years and I will say that I pretty much stayed the same size after he weaned, but it took about six months to fully wean. If you don’t plan to extended nurse or end up weaning fairly quick be prepared for
your bra size to fluctuate a ton.
  • @jess09lynn If you plan to breastfeed I wouldn't buy a $72 bra. Your size is going to change a lot, while you're nursing you'll probably want a nursing bra (maybe the $72 bra is a nursing bra but I wouldn't buy that) most of the time, and then when you wean your boobs may totally change again (shape and size).

  • I just want to put this PSA out there... Last time around I learned that no breast changes in pregnancy can be an indicator that there may be breastfeeding difficulties after birth. I'm not trying to scare anyone, just want to put it out there so no one gets blindsided at birth like I did.

For myself, my boobs do not change during pregnancy, if they do it is a very minimal change. Last time I did get stretch marks on them even though they really didn't grow. I thought nothing of the lack of changes, that is until I gave birth and attempted to breast feed. For me, I was unable to breast feed because my body would produce virtually no milk. I learned from the Lactation Consultant that the lack of changes in my breasts, along with the lack of milk production pointed towards IGT (insufficient glandular tissue).

  • @m6agua did you feel any breast changes other than stretch marks?

All my bras still fit but my boobs are fuller and heavier. My nipples are really really sensitive, they’re basically semi-hard 24/7. I’m assuming that things are changing even though my boobs haven’t grown in size. Maybe they will in the 3rd trimester

  • @drkoyya My boobs don't get huge during pregnancy. They're fuller and the nipples hurt, but the don't get much bigger until my milk comes in after birth. I breastfed both my kids with no problems, so hopefully what you're experiencing is similar.
  • @m6agua The same thing happened to a friend of mine. Her boobs didn't change and she didn't produce much milk. Her daughter is happily and healthily formula fed.

  • @drkoyya My breasts have never felt full, during or after pregnancy. In the first few weeks of pregnancy I would have some minor soreness in the breast and sensitive nipples, but it was never bad and didn't last long. I for sure noticed more of those feelings this time around. I guess with each pregnancy you can grow new tissue, so I am hopeful I can produce a tiny bit more this time around. But I am not banking on it.

@catem07 I'm sorry that your friend had a similar experience. I am certainly happy that formula is a great option. I am pretty sure I have some PTSD from my first week postpartum and all of the medical advice I got against formula in order not to "ruin" breast feeding once my milk "came in". I took a breastfeeding class at the hospital and they never even briefly covered the fact that there are some people that just cannot breastfeed (even though it is a very small amount).

  • @jess09lynn this is my first but from my mom's stories (who's built the same) I'm expecting them to get a lot bigger.
  • @m6agua my breasts swelled a tiny bit with DS, but not like what others always talk about. I never felt full or engorged and I wasn't able to breastfeed either, we I did, it just wasn't enough. Never knew there was a relation. The pediatrician just said he wasn't gaining enough weight and was underweight so we started supplementing with formula.
  • New symptom as of yesterday my belly button hurts a bit when I push to pee. Not sure the reasoning and I’m not going to google it, but I’m assuming it’s everything stretching and growing.
  • @babyfoxden10 have you had your fundal height checked recently? My midwife checked mine on Monday and she was basically pressing on my belly button. Maybe baby is moving their way up?

  • @heatherlynn321 I've had three bleeding episodes in the last month that were determined to be caused by tiny blood vessels in the cervix being broken from constipation.  I'd never had it in my previous pregnancies and was so scared!  In my case, everything was perfectly fine - just had to be more consistent in taking stool softener - hoping the same is true for you!

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • My main symptoms is still nausea from hyperemesis.  I have a zofran pump which has quite literally saved my life though!  I'm so thankful for modern medicine.

Other symptoms are feeling baby's first flutters (yay!), and occasional contractions (irritable uterus).  Also, holy headaches!

  • @LuckBeALady I'm sorry you had to go through those scary episodes, but you dont even know how much comfort your post just brought me. I'm really hoping I'm in the exact same boat.
  • @drkoyya I haven’t had the fundal height checked yet, but I just googled what that is and it’s certainly possible she’s moving on up there based on how many weeks I am now. I’m also short (4’11’’) so I wonder how that could contribute... interesting 🤔
  • @m6agua it sucks how shamed we are for not breastfeeding! Good for you for informing everyone now, who knows your body better than you also, who needs the stress of a malnourished child, while feeling like your body is failing to do what so many others are able to do without even trying. I was never offered any resources and didn't really know they were an option when I had DS and have informed my OB that I had difficulties bfing last time and he recommended a breastfeeding class to start with and will get me in touch with the LC afterwards if needed. I felt better going into this knowing I struggled before and not having such high expectations.
  • @m6agua and @splashmountain I read an article once about a woman who was basically starving her newborn because she was so wrapped up in needing to breastfeed. The baby was literally starving when her best friend, who also had an infant, offered to feed both babies. So kumbaya, happy ending. I don't recall what the point of the article was, other than how important breastfeeding was to this woman even when doctors told her she  needed to stop trying. I was completely disgusted with her. I could hardly finish the article. Babies need to be fed. They do not need to go hungry or starved because mom can't accept that formula is fine. I'm sorry if people have made you feel bad for using formula, but seriously, screw those people. You're doing what's best for your baby and mental health.
  • @heatherlynn321 Just wondering how you're doing? Did the bleeding stop? Have you been able to relax a little bit? Bleeding always freaks me out even more then they say they don't know why it's happening.

I'm loving the second trimester. Since it looks like we might be keeping this pregnancy I'm less worried about the nausea going away and I'm enjoying being able to eat food and look at it without gagging. I feel like I don't have as many symptoms as I did with DD at about this time (15 weeks). I feel I had a lot of RLP and I'm not having that this time, maybe because everything is prestretched out. I have notices the nipples are starting to darken and nursing DD hurts a lot sometime, I think my milk may be drying up too as I can't squeeze it out like I used to be able to a month or two ago. My hands go to sleep while sleeping and I can't get comfortable but that's mostly because DD sleeps in bed with us and she needs to be either pressed up against me or kicking me in the stomach/kidneys all night long. I am happy to say though that along with the second trimester energy boost she also started sleeping through the night as long as she's in bed with us so I'm getting so much more rest available if I could sleep with out her kicking me. Last night was tough because my arm I would normally sleep on is sore from getting my flu shot so I couldn't sleep on that side long. My hips have been hurting off an on still some days it hurts to walk others I feel fine as long as I haven't sat for an extended period of time.

  • @ruby696 there is actually the movement fed is best as opposed to breast is best

    *TW* in spoiler
due in part to a woman losing her newborn because he wasn't getting enough milk from her and she didn't know. *end TW*

I'm no expert but what I've heard is the baby friendly designation at hospitals can be particularly problematic for the feeding issue and also something about the baby sleeping in the room instead of the nursery I think. I'm sure somebody much better informed could provide more information about this.

But yea I like fed is best. Who cares so long as they get what they need.
  • I’ve been reading Crib sheet by Emily Oster. She looks at all the studies on various subjects and evaluates the quality of those studies (she’s qualified to do this) and breaks it down to the important points. Her research has found that there isn’t crazy amounts of overwhelming evidence that breastfeeding  is exceptionally superior to formula. Yes there are some benefits, but not so much as to support the horrible shaming and the over the top promotion of breastfeeding at the cost of alienating and hurting people who cannot BF for one reason or another. I highly recommend Crib sheet for all expectant moms, new or experienced. It’s just really nice to have solid information, not just the hype. She covers many parenting topics, not just BF.
  • I support how ever you choose to feed your baby, but what I hate is when you're given no support in breastfeeding and just told to formula feed. My daughter was born at a baby friendly hospital by c-section. We were told on day 3 that she had lost too much weight and I should give her formula. This was after the first day no one telling me that she likely won't cry to eat and I should wake her up to eat because newborns are sleepy creatures. No one put me on a "schedule" until the second day and only when they saw her weight drop did they ask if I wanted to pump after nursing. (most c-section babies lose more weight because you're pumped up with fluids for surgery, they didn't go by that logic either) once I stated pumping it was clear to see I had enough milk, I was just not told to feed her often enough. She was fine by day 4 or 5 but the LC didn't even want to give us a chance and wanted to push formula and mh who isn't educated in anything breastfeeding basically made me feel like a horrible mother when I refused and said we could figure this out I had plenty of milk.

One of my friends gave birth at another hospital and she wanted to bf they didn't have anyone show her how to latch and basically just told her because she had a 10 lb baby her baby was hungrier than she could produce and gave her formula. With the tiny formula nipples on pre-made bottles so her sons latch got worse and worse until she was bleeding and scabby at his 2 week appointment when the pediatrician looked at her and felt terrible no one helped her get a good latch. She tried helping, but he was already so used to formula and her milk was pretty much gone so she didn't really have a choice at that point.

If someone wants to breastfeed I just hope everyone is supportive and just doesn't come in pushing formula without letting them try and giving them as much support as they want or need.
  • I have one baby I BF for 6 weeks and then switched to formula. He was on formula until 2 (growth issues). I have one I BF for 2.5 years. I’d like to go at least a year this time, I wouldn’t mind 2 though. I also have formula samples stocked. Feed your baby. The end.
  • @jhysmath I’m sorry you had such a tough experience starting out. Considering how much BF is promoted these days, you would think there would be more support. I’ve heard lots of people say they didn’t feel supported and I think in general we don’t have as much “technical” support around breastfeeding as many European countries do. I think it also varies greatly from hospital to hospital. There are a whole lot of things that need improvement in our health care system. In general just supporting moms to feed their baby however they want/can is a place where we certainly could use to be better.
