There is a huge difference between a single mom and a SAHM whose DH travels and/or is gone for work a lot. They are both an incredible amount of work, no disputing that, however, the single mom doesn't have the benefit of another income to rely on. (As a former single parent that is a huge pet peeve of mine.)
I agree with the pumpkin pie thing. I'm making caramel pecan cheesecake bars this year for something different. On that topic UO I actually enjoy having completely untraditional meals for holidays but cant get my family on board. We did have homemade pork tamales and tacos for christmas last year bc I was hosting and put my foot down. They are back to their whining for ham this year. Maybe we will compromise with prime rib or orange duck.
@mommyofthefence we did prime rib last year for Christmas, but I would be absolutely on board for homemade tamales and tacos. If I knew how to make tamales.
@mommyofthefence pork tamales and tacos sound amazing right now! I'm not a huge ham fan anyway but I'll eat it if it's in front of me.
@modoodles agreed! I used to have a coworker who always called herself a single mom b/c her hubs was gone a lot on business. As a daughter of a single mom who made minimum wage, I always rolled my eyes at her. Not saying co-worker's life isn't hard, but being poor wasn't one of the things making it hard.
On the theme of Thanksgiving food, my UO is I LOVE chunky whole-berry, homemade cranberry sauce. Most people I know prefer the canned stuff. I make mine with whole berries, only use half the sugar in the recipe, and only lightly mash them. I can eat big bowls of this tart pink magic.
@dancingtreepose me too! I could eat nothing but homemade cranberry sauce! I make mine with a little bit of orange juice, too. I don’t mash them at all just let them cook a long time and then throw in half a cup fresh at the very end so there are a few that just barely burst. Yum yum yum!

Tamales are super easy! There are a zillion recipes you can google, but really all you need are corn husks, masa, shredded meat of some form, and sauce of some form.
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
@dancingtreepose My husband prefers whole-berry cranberry sauce too. The first year he spent Thanksgiving with my family, we had to make a Thanksgiving-morning grocery run to get some. I feel like real cranberries shouldbe better than a jellied mass that conforms to the shape of the can, but they're just...not.
Sticking with the Thanksgiving food theme, my UO: dark meat is better than light meat.
Me 32 |DH 32 married 9/15 DD: 1/17/17 #2 due 7/26/20!
Team love homemade cranberry sauce. I add orange juice and a little maple syrup. I make it year round I love it so much!
My UO is I cannot get behind the getting ready for Christmas before thanksgiving. Dat after, game on, but not before! And that goes for every holiday, don’t rush me through my damn holidays!!
My UO is that I love my artificial Christmas tree. There is no way H is going to head out to cut a real one down or even buy a real one in a parking lot somewhere so I have a big beautiful fake AF tree in my basement...AND to make it worse, I'm totally dragging it out this weekend. I won't decorate it, but I would like it to be out and get back into tree shape by the time we are back from Thanksgiving.

@laurad75 totally team fake tree! We always had a real one growing up and I had to crawl under it to water that stupid thing, needles poking and leaving a rash. Then, you still find needles mo ths later poking you through your socks! Hard pass!
@laurad75 yaaaaas to all of that! I'd be dragging mine out this weekend if our weekend wasn't totally jam packed. We aren't doing Thanksgiving at our house so I don't feel bad getting everything out early.
ETA @bluguitarhannah same... its gross and has no place on my plate.
@laurad75@modoodles also team fake tree! We had a traumatic childhood experience with a spider nest hatching in our tree one year... resulting in HUNDREDS of spiders. I still shudder at the thought!
My UO is that randoms who just show up and post snowflake posts should be banished! Or maybe a 2 strikes and you’re out voting system. 😐 The drive-bys are SO annoying!
@pretzellover I have a love-hate with them, actually. They're annoying, but I like the snark they bring. Mostly from me but I'm hoping some other jump on board soon
@pretzellover I agree. I also hate the "thanks, I didnt see the boards" thing. YES YOU DID. You just chose to be a special snowflake and post your own thread. There is ZERO way you can get on this board, without seeing those things. Also this is why wait time exists, so you can read the rules before jumping in.

Mommy to a super cute havanesse puppy and baby boy!
@littlebug2010 no, they probably didn't see the others because they are, LITERALLY, only here to get one question answered and then bounce.
FFFC? Every time someone answers their question, I'm yelling, "what are you doooooing?! Stop encouraging this shit!" and giving that person a -1 in my head... whatever that means
I just raise my eyebrow at folks who pop in for one question that is clearly answerable by google, their doctor, etc. Why are you spending your time asking strangers a question you could have figured out so so so easily on your own? I understand when the question is coming from anxiety but then you’d need to actually engage and support in order to be provided with support. How would reassurance/answer from a stranger be more helpful than that from a doctor/trusted friend/WebMD??
@rachelredhead I used to have a link that took them to a site that would act like a video where it showed them how to google/told them to input their question and then would actually google it. I need to find it... it was perfect for those types of posts.
There’s a ridiculous drive-by on the TTGP board right now. Worth a lurk to see a master class in meme usage. The random pop ins here I can ignore. But the ones that happen on TTGP just come across so cruel and insensitive. I just don’t get the thought process for those kinds of posts.
@rachelredhead the ones who say oh sorry I didn't bother reading the rules and delete their posts are dumb but fine...but the ones who get sassy and do things like wish infertility on everyone / rub their fertility in everyone's face (I think that's the one I got warnings for but honestly don't remember at this point) are just ridiculous. Like who are you and where'd you come from?
@pretzellover AGREE. the snowflake posts drive me insane. I also cannot deal with the facebook group ones either. No thanks...Facebook is so much less private. You gotta weed out the trolls first!
@b_1029 oh heavens, I haven’t seen one wishing infertility on folks (though I saw plenty of defensive snark). That is an absolutely justified reason to get a warning for biting back. That’s just so gross.
I assume those women leave very sad lives. That’s the only reasoning I can come up with as far as mocking anyone’s struggle with TTC.
@laurad75@modoodles also team fake tree! We had a traumatic childhood experience with a spider nest hatching in our tree one year... resulting in HUNDREDS of spiders. I still shudder at the thought!
I just gagged a little, omg! Also team fake tree since I had one growing up. All smells are making me sick so I imagine I might not enjoy a real pine tree right now anyway.
@pretzellover My friend had a spider-infested tree one year! The story was so unbelievable.
Also, I love drive-by drama. I need to lurk over on TTGP to check it out.
