Re: Group 2 (July 9-16) Check in: 11/11

  • EDD/weeks+days: Based on when I ovulated, July 16. 4+4

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Team Green!

Baby is the size of a(n): poppyseed, soon to be apple seed

Upcoming appointments: dating US on 11/25. I hope my OB adjusts my due date to be based off ovulation and not LMP. (I ovulate on day 20 of my cycle. She adjusted it last time, so we'll see.)

How are you feeling? Pretty good so far. FX it stays that way!

    Raves/Rants: nothing right now...

    Questions: none at the moment

What’s your favourite coffee order and favourite place to go? I had been alternating between PSL and pumpkin cream cold brew from Starbucks (b/c I'm basic AF) depending on if I wanted hot or cold, but since getting pregnant they now taste gross and chocolate-y instead of pumpkin-y. Right now, no coffee sounds appealing, but I'm hoping that changes soon!

  • EDD/weeks+days: July 12/ 5+1

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: We were team great with DD, which was nice because all the big stuff is neutral. I'm hoping to find out this time, but we haven't decided yet.

Baby is the size of a(n): apple seed

Upcoming appointments: 1st appointment is with the nurse on Dec 3. US hopefully the following week!

How are you feeling? Fine! Which makes me really nervous.

    Raves/Rants: n/a

    Questions: n/a

GTKY: **stolen from May 2020** What’s your favourite coffee order and favourite place to go? I hate coffee. I don't drink tea, either.
  • EDD/weeks+days:  July 10th

Team: Green (we want to be surprised, plus I like unisex stuff)

Baby is the size of an: appleseed (or orange seed according to"What to Expect")

Upcoming appointments: We have our first appointment Dec 5th which will include an ultrasound!

How are you feeling? Pretty great! Excited, only minor symptoms, wanting to tell the world but holding back.

Raves/Rants: Even though I'm a full-time teacher, our health insurance changed to a real lame one, with a high deductible that I will not quite reach by the end of 2019. This means I'll be paying full price, out of pocket for my ultra-sound and first appointment. I have no idea what they are going to charge me but I'm sure I won't have the money.  Hoping I can negotiate a payment plan.

Questions: I know you're not supposed to handle kitty litter but I wonder about cleaning chicken coops?  I plan to buy a breathing mask and some rubber gloves to be safe.

GTKY: What’s your favourite coffee order and favourite place to go?  I like dark roast coffee with half and half. I like to go to independent coffee shops that have a hippie vibe :-)
  • EDD/weeks+days: July 11th based on LMP, 5+2

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Team i-need-to-know-asap!!!

Baby is the size of a(n):lentil!

Upcoming appointments:ultrasound Dec 3rd, first OB apt Dec 5th

How are you feeling? TIRED, so tired, sometimes a little woozy but not full-on nausea yet

Raves/Rants: DH has to travel for work this week so i will have to manage the furbabies in his absence

Questions: i know im not the only one so anxious for the assurance of an ultrasound--what are you doing to take your mind off worrying?

GTKY: What’s your favourite coffee order and favourite place to go? theres this great coffee shop by my house that has the richest espresso ive ever encountered.  Almost milky.  And does the job!  i [used to] get a triple espresso each time
  • EDD/weeks+days: 5 weeks

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Finding Out!

Baby is the size of a(n): Appleseed

    Upcoming appointments: Nov 20th

How are you feeling? Not so different! My boobs are huge though to H's delight and general hilarity.

Raves/Rants: I was in CA for a wedding which was lovely but am now back on the chilly East Coast. I have a conference Nov 17-19 in Chicago which will be frigid and I'm a little nervous by then I won't feel good/was away from H for the first two days of this long wedding weekend and did not enjoy that.

Questions: Does anyone have any favorite pregnancy books? Going to do library run in the near future

What’s your favourite coffee order and favourite place to go? I'm a Soy Chai Latte kind of gal and have a few local go-tos in town.
  • @dancingtreepose, all of your prenatal appointments should be completely covered by insurance! This was a change with ACA. (I'm assuming you're in the US.)

@asf0613 I just keep telling myself that all is well unless I have a reason to believe otherwise. It's so hard waiting for the first appointment though!

@pocketrose with DD, I bought the Mayo Clinic's Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy. I didn't read all of it, but I liked what I did read. I've not heard good things about What to Expect When You're Expecting, for whatever that's worth. When you're ready for a baby gear book, I have a good recommendation!
  • *lurking from G1*
@pocketrose I HIGHLY recommend The Panic-Free Pregnancy. My friend read Expecting Better and it sounds similar in nature. She also highly recommends that book. So, I'd go with one of those. Also, if you're interested in any baby related books, get Moms On Call. It's the only baby book I read. It's short, to the point, and is the reason I knew how to handle many situations and absolutely a big reason DD was a champion sleeper.

@dancingtreepose with DD, my OB ran my insurance, told me what my OOP expense would be from then until delivery and I just had to pay that by 20w. I know a lot of practices do it that way... maybe you could set up a payment plan for that, in advance, if your practice also handles it that way? Maybe not helpful, but just a thought

@stlbuckeye132 I'm in the US and you'd think so, right? I called my insurance and they bundle all your prenatal visits (except the first) and birth into one claim. But they told me the first visit (including the first ultrasound) was billed separately. I have to pay out of pocket until I reach my deductible, after which the insurance pays. I called the hospital and they gave me an estimate of $1,000 or more for the first visit. Insurance people also said that if I want to see the doctor outside of my regularly scheduled prenatals (like I'm feeling sick or nervous and want to get checked out, that is separate). This is a new insurance plan that all the school districts in VT are under. My friend had a baby right before the new plan kicked in and she paid a single $25 co-pay for everything including prenatal visits and birth. Mindboggling. They must do payment plans, lots of people don't have a grand kicking around.

EDIT:  I just googled what you said and you are correct! ACA says that all prenatal care is covered with no cost-sharing.  Did Blue Cross Blue Shield up and lie to me?  I just tried calling so I could argue with them but they are closed for Veterans day.  Calling first thing in the morning!
  • @dancingtreepose I hope the person you spoke to was grossly misinformed. I thought everything was totally covered (except delivery... I'm expecting to pay my max OOP for that). I hope you get some better answers tomorrow! I'd definitely push back if they're telling you your first appt and ultrasound will be $1000 OOP.

  • EDD/weeks+days: July 11? 15? 5w3?

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: We’ll find out

Baby is the size of a(n): grain of quinoa

Upcoming appointments: first OB 11/15, first US 11/25

How are you feeling? Pretty good overall. I get motion sick in the car, which is brand new. And I felt really sickly this morning but it passed.

Raves/Rants: PGAL brain is the pits!

    Questions: none really

GTKY: **stolen from May 2020** What’s your favourite coffee order and favourite place to go? We have a local place nearby that has great caramel lattes. My go-to order now is a one shot latte with skim milk and a half shot of caramel.

  • Hey group 2 friends!

    EDD/weeks+days: July 10, 5+3

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green:  FTM q - does green mean not finding out? If so, that's us (for now at least!!)

Baby is the size of a(n): appleseed

Upcoming appointments: so I had an HCG blood draw last week and got 70, which is pregnant but not very high. Doc wants me to come back in for another draw tomorrow to ensure its progressing enough. I am very very nervous but @stlbuckeye132 I'm trying to keep your wise words in mind! I also have an early US set up next Thursday 11/21.

How are you feeling? Okay. Boobs are intermittently sore, I keep waking up in the middle of the night. Yesterday and today I've felt a little woozy if I wait too long between eating. I'm hoping this means everything is good in there!

Raves/Rants: I ran a full day of interviews today and am so tired now!

Questions: I'm also looking for book recs so I second @pocketrose 's Q above. Thanks for the recs, @blaf322 and @stlbuckeye132 !

GTKY: What’s your favourite coffee order and favourite place to go? I'm a New England gal so there's something about a classic Dunkin run. Iced coffee with almond milk is all I need!
  • @mehugg yep, team green is waiting to find out the sex of baby until birth! And I love that there are so many of us in this group doing that!

    EDD/weeks+days: July 15, 4+6

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: team green, I think! We have one of each so I think it would be cool to wait until the birth to find out.

Baby is the size of a(n): poppyseed

    Upcoming appointments: nothing scheduled yet

How are you feeling? No different, which worries me. I had sore boobs with my first 2 pregnancies at this point

Raves/Rants: I am freaking out a little bit because I don't currently have health insurance. My husband started a new job in August and if we enroll before before February we will have to pay almost half of his pay every two weeks. We don't have much choice I guess, but it will be a tight couple months 😕
Questions: any suggestions for online store for affordable maternity clothes?

GTKY: **stolen from May 2020** What’s your favourite coffee order and favourite place to go? I have been buying International delight mocha iced coffee lately, or I just drink hot coffee at home. I don't go out for coffee much

    EDD/weeks+days: July 14. 5 weeks even

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Team finding out as soon as possible haha

Baby is the size of a(n): apple seed

Upcoming appointments: dating US on 12/2

How are you feeling? Good! Mildly nauseous in the evenings, which is completely the opposite from last time, but that's about it

Raves/Rants: Just happy and living the secret pregnant life haha. I can't wait to read the thread on how people plan on announcing to family and friends. I love seeing everyone's ideas. We're doing it at Christmas so that should be really fun.

    Questions: none at the moment

What’s your favourite coffee order and favourite place to go? I'm originally from NJ where we had Dunkin on every corner but sadly, there aren't many in CO. I buy Dunkin k-cups and drink plain black coffee normally and then I also like the pumpkin cream cold brew from Starbucks.

    Me: 33 DH: 31
    Location: Castle Rock, CO
    DD: 10.13.18
    baby #2 due: 7.14.20

  • @hotmessmama53Health insurance is sooooo expensive! My employer pays for ours, 100% and it's been a really great perk  because then we just need DH to get coverage for himself and DD through his employer. But it's getting so pricey, our president said we may have to have an employee contribution for coverage. Which, not a huge deal. But still. It's ridiculous how costly it's becoming!
Question for you...Once you enroll, would they cover this pregnancy or consider it a preexisting condition?

  • EDD/weeks+days: July 14/5 weeks today

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: finding out. Since I’ve been AMA for all my pregnancies I’ve gotten to find out with the genetic screening test with 💯 certainty, which is totally my bag.

Baby is the size of a(n): tiny thing

    Upcoming appointments: none

How are you feeling? Fatigue and back pain are my only symptoms.

Raves/Rants: PGALS and old so I’m a touch pessimistic.

Questions: send them my way. I’m happy to talk about anything loss, pregnancy, childbirth and child rearing related.

GTKY: **stolen from May 2020** What’s your favourite coffee order and favourite place to go? I like to get an iced dark roast with liquid sugar and extra skim from Dunks or a short blonde flat white with 1/2 a sugar in the raw and skim milk from Starbucks.
    MMC 02/16/12
    DS1 05/03/13
    Natural MC 10/01/14
    DD1 01/08/16
  • @blaf322 it is crazy how expensive it is! Once he's there for 6 months it's actually pretty cheap, but it's ridiculous until then. And that's a good question, I'm not sure. I will have to find out, but hopefully it would be covered.
  • EDD/weeks+days: July 11 / 5+3

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Dad wants to KNOW!! Mom is okay with not

Baby is the size of a(n): sesame seed

Upcoming appointments: not scheduled yet, scheduling tomorrow

How are you feeling? Ok. Tired. Some food aversions but a lot of food cravings. Gas/bloating

    Raves/Rants: None

    Questions: None

Team pink! But we'll see! We'll be happy with either! I want a sister for my daughter!
    Appleseed, almost a sweet pea!
    Appt on the 21st
Gas and bloating, not a whole else!
    None
    None
  • @dancingtreepose did you get any more info from your insurance company today?
  • EDD/weeks+days: 4 +3

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Green. We didn’t find out last time

Baby is the size of a(n): poppyseed!

Upcoming appointments: none. I will have a booking with the midwife at some point, but our first scan in uk isn’t til 12 weeks. Long wait!

How are you feeling? Fine. Tired, sore boobs. That’s it so far. Last time the nausea kicked in at 8 weeks.

    Raves/Rants: none!

GTKY: I’m a simple girl, cappuccino will suffice!
  • @stlbuckeye132 I didn't end up calling. We had a snow day off from school on Tuesday which was good because I wasn't feeling well.  I just curling up on the couch with blankets, tea, and the dogs. We binge-watched the whole season of Raising Dion on Netflix. I have $900 left on my deductible so I guess that is what I will have to pay if I have to pay something. I guess I should just be thankful I have insurance even if it's not as good as the insurance I used to have.
  • Edd:7-16 4 weeks 4 days how I’m feeling: tired and annoyed with a lazy appetite ‼️‼️
  • EDD - 7/12 | 5+5
    Baby size - apple seed
upcoming appts - First Ultrasound: 11/8 (4+6) saw gestational sac and yolk sac.

Second Ultrasound schedule for 11/20 (6+4) give or take. Hoping to see heartbeat! Fingers crossed🤞#stickybaby #rainbowbaby

How are you feeling - fine. Which makes me nervous as I had miscarriage in January. Boobs are sore. I get a little light headed at times. And maybe a little tired but not too bad.

  • EDD/weeks+days: July 15

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: I’m green, husband wants to find out.

Baby is the size of a(n): appleseed

How are you feeling? Some gas and bloating but otherwise fine which is a bit worrisome

Raves/Rants: I hate having to hide it from work but I don’t want them to know for as long as possible because once it’s announced any career progression is essentially on hold. Dreading the upcoming Christmas potluck where we’ll have wine and we’ll be in a circle doing secret Santa... how to fake drink my way out of this one 🙄

Questions: Anyone getting a midwife? I’m considering it

GTKY: **stolen from May 2020** What’s your favourite coffee order and favourite place to go is on hold - I like Americano with nothing in it, been having decaf and I’m so tired
  • @ser1na I feel similarly about work - I'm close with my boss personally and it's really hard not to tell her! But, when I do, it's going to force some tough conversations about my workload and overall role - it isn't really designed with the idea of a possible mat leave in mind. I feel really supported and there have been lots of babies on my team in the past year so I'm fortunately not really worried about job security or growth, but there will likely be done element of "yay congrats that's wonderful!....oh shoot what does this mean for hitting our annual goals?" Sigh. What do you do for work?
  • @ser1na (lurking from group three): I’ve seen midwives with all my pregnancies. I started at a traditional OBGYN group with DS1 and switched around 16 weeks to a hospital based midwife practice. I used a different hospital midwife group (we’d moved) for DS2. DS3 was a homebirth with a nurse midwife and were using her again this time. I have LOVED working with midwives. If you have specific questions, let me know!

  • @KatieEl The hospital my obgyn delivers at has a midwives practice. I plan on seeing my obgyn but I'm pretty sure she doesn't deliver and I may try and deliver with the midwives mostly because I have a large fear of being...fussed with too much? I'm not sure how to articulate it but my friend had a 26 hour, 2 epidurals hospital labor where a male doctor said "oh this shouldn't hurt that much" and the nurses were planning next weeks schedule in her room/over her while she was pushing and basically that's the thing of my nightmares (dudes and terrible nurses) and I feel like you avoid a lot of that with midwives. True? Am I crazy (yes)?
  • @pocketrose so in my experience yes, you'd avoid being talked over while working with midwives, it's very patient centered care.  I am curious though why you'd want to see one practitioner your whole pregnancy but not deliver with them?  Even if you chose to go with a doctor for delivery, you might avoid a lot of what you're worried about by developing a relationship with your care practitioner during your prenatal care.

    Baby #4 on the way!
  • @KatieEl My friend delivered with the midwives and had a mostly good experience but from what she's told me you don't get a single practitioner there/you see whoever is available during your pregnancy. Also, I'm limited by my insurance and I've been with my gyno almost 10 years and she has a small practice (her and one other doctor) and I'm comfortable with her. Also, she may deliver and I just have no idea lol, I'll find out in 4 days I suppose.

@pocketrose Gotcha. Yeah group practices (midwife or OBGYN tbh) are very common. Usually you’ll have seen everyone at least once prenataly, but totally understand just wanting to see the same person every appointment too. If she doesn’t deliver and you do end up wanting to go with midwives I’d just double check their availability if you don’t see them for prenatal care. I imagine it really varies, but I definitely know there are some midwife practices that you have to establish care prior to delivering to make sure you get them.

    EDD/weeks+days: 7/10 6w/3d

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: so finding out!

Baby is the size of a(n): chocolate chip

Upcoming appointments: tomorrow (11/19) is our first so I’m super nervous and excited

How are you feeling? Tired, hungry. I can’t stop falling asleep by 8:45 and I want to eat everything. I’m trying hard to not feel overly paranoid after our loss this summer. I think I’ll feel better after the 12 week mark (where we made it to last time).

Raves/Rants: We told my mom and MIL but no one else. After seeing DH’s best friend, he now won’t stop texting us about how he “knows” we’re expecting since I wasn’t drinking. Despite DH and me claiming we aren’t, he’s still pushing the issue.  It’s really annoying that he won’t just let it go and accept we may not be ready to tell anyone yet.

Questions: how can you tell the difference between round ligature and normal growing pains vs ones you should be concerned with?

GTKY: pre-pregnancy Starbucks Peppermint Mocha; now- I’ve been making decaf Nespresso at home
  • @ser1na I’m in the same situation as you are with work. I’ve been on a career trajectory for over a year and am so close to a director position. Telling anyone there puts an immediate end to that path but it’s so hard to not tell them since we’re so close.
