Weekly Questions 11/3

Re: Weekly Questions 11/3

  • Did anyone have a normal NT scan but bloodwork indicating high risk for chromosomal disorder? The doctor said my papp-a was low. Waiting the painful 10 days for the materiT21 bloodwork then have an amnio next week based on doctors suggestion. Hoping someone can share this happened and all ended up OK. Thank you!!

  • @ash158389 That happened to me last pregnancy. MaterniT21 came back normal. My OB did not recommend an amnio after that. My son is perfectly healthy with no sign of any trisomies, now age 2. I know it’s really hard not to worry, but the NT scan is designed to catch cases that are high risk. It will give false positivities for that reason.

  • Thank you for sharing that makes me feel better. The “high risk” result just makes you so uneasy then having to wait to know anything is the worst!
  • @ash158389 I didn't have that experience, but from my reading, it sounds like the NIPT tests are very accurate in ruling out abnormalities, but that the positive results aren't super accurate. In other words, if you get negative results, there are almost definitely no issues, but if you get positive results, there's still a high chance everything is fine. Good luck!
  • I never expected to care about frequency of poop this much. DD has been on the struggle bus lately. I've done the more poop foods into her diet thing. Gave her an oral laxative last night- hoping it clears her today, and then I think I am going to do a probiotic in her water. Anyone do that? frequency? I don't want to do miralax or anything, especially not frequently, bc I know kids who could not come off it ok. But seriously can not have poop become a non-regular issue!

@smallbutmighty77 DD1 gets miralax in her juice about every other day.  I hate doing it, but it's so bad sometimes it makes her bleed.  We've talked to the doctor about it, the latest suggestion was probiotic but it doesn't seem to be working.  I know part of the problem is she's not drinking nearly enough.  When she was home with me for 3 months when I was on mat leave w/DD2 we had it under control since I was making sure she had tons of water, and fruit and veggies with every meal and snack.  Now w/daycare feeding her it's really ramped up.

  • Poop is a big issue for DS. I used to swear by prunes, but they aren’t always cutting it now. We’ve tried probiotics as well. It’s not a constant issue and it’s definitely worse when he drinks a lot of milk and not enough water, but it’s tough, especially with daycare to have complete control over that.
