Multiples

::jec2006 joins the multiples board, still in disbelief!::

Hi ladies-I never thought I would be up here, but we got quite a shock on Monday afternoon at our ultrasound.  Twins!  I can't believe it-I am seven weeks, and they have both have nice strong heartbeats.

Here I thought-oh, this is DC #2 (DD is 18 months old), so I will have a much better sense of things this time around.  Not anymore!  I am excited, but I am scared, too.  Any words of advice?  If your twins were not your first DCs, how was your twin pregnancy different from a singleton?  TIA!

  • I LOVE the title of your post LOL!! Congrats and welcome to the board. Go out and get yourself a copy of Dr. Luke's When You Are Expecting Twins, Trips or Quads. This is my 2nd pregnancy and so far the only difference is that I am bigger in the belly and have more aches and pains than I remember with DS and I eat a lot more.
  • Congrats!  Twins were definitely a surprise to us- my DD was about 13 mos when we found out there were two in there!  My singleton pregnancy was a complete breeze, so this one has definitely had more challenges.  But, it will be twice as rewarding!  The biggest difference has just been how nervous I have been the whole time- worrying about two makes you twice as anxious!  As pp said, read some good books, and talk to your OB about how s/he will treat you differently.  Look into or ask about seeing someone in MFM/perinatology.  And- rest!  Twin pregnancies make you twice as tired!  Best of luck and congrats on your two miracles!
  • Congrats! So far, I am much bigger sooner, and my morning sickness has been much more intense than it was my first time around.

  • Congrats and Welcome!
  • Congrats and Welcome to the Board.
  • Congratulations!! After the shock settles it gets really exciting. This is my first pregnancy but I did not find out I was having twins until 21 weeks. You will have your hands full with an 18 month old but I think you will have lots of fun too! Congrats again!

  • Congrats and welcome!  I was suprised by the "shock of a lifetime 'it's twins' ultrasound" at 9 weeks and am still in shock most days!  My DS is 15 months old now and my twin pregnancy has been suprisingly similar to my singleton pregnancy.  I had no m/s with twins but had a bit with DS.  I have had horrible round ligament pain with both.  I have started to slow down a lot earlier with the twins and am also feelign more BH contrax.  Other than than, though, very similar.  Good luck and hope to hear from you on the board!
