Re: PGAL Check-in w/o 10/30

  • 1. How many weeks are you? 28 weeks today!

    2. Previous loss(es)? 6 losses. 12/13, 1/17, 11/17, 4/18, 9/18, 2/19

    3. How are you feeling? Emotionally and physically? Physically, uncomfortable. I have lots of pelvic pain. Someone posted that it feels like their vagina is broken and that’s pretty much what it feels like. Emotionally I can’t help but still have thoughts creeping in. I had a good scan yesterday, babies moving all over and good heart rates. This morning all I could think about was that one or
both of their hearts stopped and we won’t be able to find it on Friday at my NST. I’m just ready for them to be here.

    4. Any appointment updates? Nst’s start Friday. Blood flow looked good yesterday at mfm.

    5. Rants/Raves/Questions? Feeling the crunch now that we are officially in the third trimester. Still need to decide on names, which still isn’t going well 🙄. My sister is coming down soon to help prep freezer meals so I need to figure out what to make. Lots to do and I feel like the remaining time will go very quickly.

    6. Any milestones coming up? Third trimester today!!

    7. GTKY: What is your favorite fall recipe? Please feel free to share a link if you have one. I love soups and stews in the fall. I made corn chowder this past Sunday and it was so good!

    1. How many weeks are you? 27w3d, and time is moving very slowly forward...which, on the upside, means my fave time of year is going by slowly, too.

    2. Previous loss(es)?  1/2019

    3. How are you feeling? Emotionally and physically? I'm just SAD right now. It's not depression level sad, just a bummed out mood. Stuff that ordinarily wouldn't bother me, I can't really shake off right now, and it's making me want to curl into a ball and wall off the world. Maybe it's because we're coming up on when I became pregnant last year, which led to a horrible time of fights and anger and resentment for SO and I that didn't resolve until my birthday in late March. Maybe it's because I know it's time to buy baby stuff (28w was my date), and I don't really have money to do it, and I don't want to ask SO to pay for it all and I'll pay him back Dec 1ish. Maybe it's because my NMIL keeps doing this push/pull guilt trip and he keeps running up there, and even though I understand and encourage him to see her, I don't want him to leave, because I never know how many days she'll guilt trip him into staying...Or maybe it's because he went to his mom's in a huff yesterday and didn't say "I love you" or look back when he left or call last night. Whatever, I'm just bummed out today and feeling a little blue.

    4. Any appointment updates? 11/4 - Hospital tour. 11/5 - 28w OB and all the labs that come with it. 11/6 - first MFM for growth scans.

    5. Rants/Raves/Questions? There's a pretty big cold front coming through today and this evening. I think I'm going to curl up in my blankets, make some cider, watch The Fog and Hocus Pocus, and maybe read a spooky book. Saturday, I'm going to watch Coco with my little man while waiting for my Christmas lights to kick on at dusk..

    6. Any milestones coming up? I think my next milestone will be 32w and then 36w, but reaching 27w was a biggie for me!

    7. GTKY: What is your favorite fall recipe? Please feel free to share a link if you have one.
Gosh, I don't know! There's so many! I love making pumpkin pie. I take the recipe below and change it up a bit by subbing orange zest for lemon zest, using Saigon cinnamon, and WAY more than suggested, and I soak the crust with fireball whiskey before blind baking it. I also pour a little fireball on the top toward the end of baking, but with still enough time to burn off the alcohol. Serve with homemade whipped cream.

I've found putting the pumpkin into cheesecloth or a strainer for a bit and draining out the excess water makes for a faster bake, and I foil the edges until the last 10m of baking, and since I'm using a DEEP dish pie, I have to increase cooking time. Sometimes, my pie is a little darker, but still tastes fantastic!

    Old Fashioned Pumpkin Pie

EDIT - I'm so proud of myself!!! I saw the travel system was marked down about 70 bucks between the stroller and the infant seat and asked SO to transfer the money to the joint account. Then...WE BOUGHT IT!!! I finally bought something big for the baby! I'm a wee bit uncomfortable, because I'm dead set on going 50/50, but he feels better, and I know we needed to do it.
  • @FyreFlyeRush - I agree that time is moving slowly right now.  For me it's just in terms of weeks - 27weeks and slowly crawling towards 30.   But somehow day to day life is still rushing by.

@kbrown2385 - I've been wanting to make a corn chowder.  My kids love corn and they recently love soup, so I think it will be a winner. I'll have to give your recipe a try!

    1. How many weeks are you? 27w 5d

    2. Previous loss(es)? 6/2013

    3. How are you feeling? Emotionally and physically? I have been flying off the handle at H recently.  He is taking it more calmly than he has in the past two so that's something.  It's not like I get upset for no reason, but my responses are way strong.  I'm usually the calm one around here, so it's exhausting even me! Otherwise I feel tired but good.

    4. Any appointment updates? I had my 28w appt and my glucola test today.  Waiting in the results.  Midwife found his heartbeat right away and says he is low, which I can totally tell due to all the pressure.  I go back in 2 weeks for another ultrasound and appt every 2 weeks now.

    5. Rants/Raves/Questions?  It is supposed to pour all day long tomorrow 😭  Why on Halloween?!?!  I don't even like it that much, but my kids have been so excited.

    6. Any milestones coming up?  I am counting down to 30w.

    7. GTKY: What is your favorite fall recipe? Please feel free to share a link if you have one.

  • @FyreFlyeRush I'm sorry you have been feeling so down. I find my emotions have been more extreme during pregnancy which is annoying. But it's  on! also complicated by each of our loss histories  which come  back to haunt us all the time... Hang in there! Our LOs are worth it!

Congrats on taking a big step on the travel system! After my last appointment I actually feel excited again and didn't even know that was missing 😅 so I'm hoping this helps you feel better. Also who cares about 50/50. I have a PhD and am the bread winner in our house but DH provides so much to the family in other ways. It's nice to feel like it's fair in money but partnership isn't all about fairness 😉 it's about loving and supporting each other in whatever way makes sense in this journey of life! Sorry long post!

@kbrown2385 I love corn chowder! Thanks for the recipe! +1 on the broken vagina/SPD. It sucks and I'm not carrying the extra weight of twins.... I felt awful last night and limped around! I did find sitting on an ice pack to be somewhat helpful.

@MollySm I love butternut squash soup but DH hates it so I never get it lol. I night have to make some just for me!

    1. How many weeks are you? 27 + 4

    2. Previous loss(es)? 12/18 and 4/19

    3. How are you feeling? Emotionally and physically? Physically still achy and the SPD is back and killer. Oh well! Emotionally so much better. I forgot what excitement you could have. After my ultrasound a huge weight was lifted. I ended up buying some postpartum PJs and leggings and my mom sent out shower invites for the shower. It's made me feel much more excited and calmed the PGAL. I know it's likely temporary since that is PGAL for you but taking it while it's there!

    4. Any appointment updates? Ultrasound on Tuesday looked really good. The same tech who saw the concerning spot spot was there and walked us through how things had changed. He does such a good job to explain what he sees and what it means that it gives you a lot of confidence. He even went back and found the original images to show and compare with us. As a data monkey, you can't get much better than that! Will follow up with the OB about the new plan on 11/4 and do all the 28 week labs....joy...

    5. Rants/Raves/Questions? Students can be so annoying/demanding sometimes and clearly don't listen most of the time. Makes me wonder why I put in so much effort sometimes. Good thing there are the few that keep the spirits lifted! Midterm exam next week. 5 weeks left of class. We can make it 😂

    6. Any milestones coming up? Excited for 3rd tri. Can't believe we made it!

    7. GTKY: What is your favorite fall recipe? Please feel free to share a link if you have one. Oh will have to think and post. TBH I can cook and taught DH what he knows but he doesn't let me cook these days lol
  • @biolprof, thank you for that. Our situation shifted somewhat last night, and I realized we are at an impasse. What I thought was my NMIL being a stereotypical MIL turned into something bigger and way more serious. We have some things to discuss, but it looks like he may need to stay there for a while and take care of her. And, while I could move up there, too, my parents are just a couple of blocks away. He won't be able to dedicate the time needed taking care of her AND still be able to be there for Baby and me. I know I'm going to need help in the first few weeks. I'm not the type of person to say pick, so I'll just remove myself from the equation. He'll be with us when he can. Now getting HIM to understand he can't be in both places at once....that's another story.

I'm glad you're getting excited again, and hope you start feeling comfortable enough to nest a little! I didn't know you had a PhD. That is awesome and amazing. DD wants to enroll in a program that lets her get her PhD at the same time as her Masters. I admire the dedication you had for school and love that you're giving back to it. *warm fuzzies*
  • @FyreFlyeRush PhD almost killed me. Tell your DD to only do it if absolutely necessary for the job she wants 😘 A masters is way more manageable and can sometimes be more flexible in job options! I did mine because I wanted to teach university and love it and wouldn't take it back. One of my proudest achievements aside from growing this tiny human but it's hard! Hang in there with the nMIL stuff! You are a strong woman and got hmthis and we got you!
  • @biolprof, Yeah, she wants to teach at the university level. I told her being fluent in Mandarin would get her a handy dandy well paying job with this little place called the NSA and she looked at me like I was insane.

In other news, the stroller came in yesterday. SO said when he saw the box, momentary panic set in. Until we actually bought something big, it hadn't fully sunk in that we have a baby on the way. I know exactly how he feels!

Graco Click Connect Breaze. I went with this one because it folds into an umbrella stroller, making it small and convenient to carry, as well as store. Graco also tends to be taller than most. And I love the ease of the Click Connect travel systems. I just wish it had SOME kind of color, maybe? *sigh*
  • @FyreFlyeRush you can put a colorful baby inside! Glad your SO is getting excited!!!
  • @biolprof I am totally relating to you enjoying feeling the excitement of a new baby.  I feel guilty that I spent so much of this pregnancy with my head in the sand.

Students are something else.  I have 6 more weeks.  Yesterday we spent 2 hours on the same topic just because everyone was having such a hard time focusing.  The thought of candy was just too distracting.

@FyreFlyeRush The pumpkin pie sounds amazing!  I never thought of doing orange zest.

    1. How many weeks are you? 29 +3

    2. Previous loss(es)? 6/19

    3. How are you feeling? Emotionally and physically? I'm on an emotional upswing, yay!  I think it is completely connected to how much sleep I get.

Physically, I am relating to a few of you that have mentioned pelvic pain.  I remember this from last time and know it won't get better until after delivery.

    4. Any appointment updates? Still seeing my ultra chill midwives who stay calm no matter how worried I am.  Seems like a lot of ladies are going to every 2 weeks, I think that's going to happen soon, but not yet.

    5. Rants/Raves/Questions?
The exhaustion is real.  I am having a hard time keeping up with my class, especially on outdoor excursion days.  I am really not sure what to do...

    6. Any milestones coming up?
    30 weeks.

    7. GTKY: What is your favorite fall recipe? Please feel free to share a link if you have one.
I love everyone else's.  You've given me some good ideas outside of the usual routine.

In our house we make a lot of miso soup in the fall and curries.
  • @FyreFlyeRush I'm sorry you have been feeling down and now with the added stress of nMIL situation.  I hope you find a happy medium that works for everyone.  I finally bit the bullet and ordered our travel system this week too!  Exciting but scary at the same time.

    1. How many weeks are you? 29

    2. Previous loss(es)? My son at 17 weeks

    3. How are you feeling? Emotionally and physically? Emotionally doing pretty well.  Physically is has all gone to shit in the past 2 weeks.  I was doing so well but SPD and sciatica have hit with a vengeance.  Working 10+ hour shifts on my feet is becoming quite the challenge and very painful.

    4. Any appointment updates? I had my first growth scan with MFM and baby girl is right on track despite the VCI! The doctor's exact words were "this baby looks perfect."  Praying it stays that way!  I feel more at peace with how I am going to approach the delivery after being consumed for weeks by varying opinions.  I've decided to schedule a CS for 39 weeks but if I go into labor on my own before that I will let it play itself out.

    5. Rants/Raves/Questions? Just hating all this pain and feeling like I am 70 years old these days.  My shower is this weekend and I am so excited.  I never imagined I would ever be here again!

    6. Any milestones coming up?  30 weeks I suppose

    7. GTKY: What is your favorite fall recipe? Please feel free to share a link if you have one.  Not a recipe but my favorite fall item to make is TJ's pumpkin bread LOL

  • @DalexRN I'm so happy your baby looks good and you have a game plan with the VCI!
  • @kbrown2385 I’m sorry the fears are creeping in and hope you had great, reassuring results at your NST on Friday. And totally agree on the pelvic pain. It’s been rough lately.

@MollySm How did the glucose test turn out?

@biolprof What a great US tech. I’m glad he gave you a lot of helpful information in addition to the peace of mind.

    @DalexRN That’s wonderful news!

@FyreFlyeRush I’m sorry about all this added stress bringing you down. You’ve been incredibly strong through this.

    1. How many weeks are you? 29+3

    2. Previous loss(es)? DD’s twin 2/17

    3. How are you feeling? Emotionally and physically? Emotionally doing better than last week. I can’t help but be nervous about the baby still being breach even though it’s still early, though. Physically I’m getting really uncomfortable, which seems like it is setting in quicker than it did with DD. I’m carrying this kiddo lower and sometimes feel like my abs are so stretched they’re going to burst. Tons of bladder stomps, too.

    4. Any appointment updates? Next Thursday with an OB who I haven’t seen yet this pregnancy but know very well because she quite literally saved my life (and my uterus) the evening after DD’s birth when I had a somewhat delayed postpartum hemorrhage. I’m hoping I’ll be able to see her more because she is fantastic.

    5. Rants/Raves/Questions? We survived a snowy Halloween and DD was such a trooper!

    6. Any milestones coming up? 30 weeks next week is probably my next big milestone.

    7. GTKY: What is your favorite fall recipe? Please feel free to share a link if you have one.

I love zucchini bread. It brings back so many childhood memories. I need to get my mom’s recipe from her, but the below one looks close. I just omit the walnuts because I hate nuts in bread.

  • @EmilyE13 I hate nuts in breads too!
  • @EmilyE13 - still no call about my glucose test.  Does anyone remember/know how long it takes to hear?

  • @MollySm I got a call the next day with my results.
  • @MollySm . I'm not sure if your practice has this, but I can log in to a patient portal and see all of my blood panels.  It's handy because they usually don't call unless it is really important.
  • @MollySm I waited forever for my results and when I finally called the office they said they only call if the results are abnormal. Of course no one told me that! Maybe it’s the same for you?
