Re: Group 1 (May 1-8) Check-in: 10/28

  • EDD: 5/7

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: The results are sitting in my inbox right now and it's KILLING me not to peek!

Baby is the size of a(n): plum

Upcoming appointments: Nothing until the AS at 18w at this point!

How are you feeling?  Pretty good! Nausea has died down and I want to eat food again, so that's good.

Raves/Rants: Our Harmony results came back NORMAL, and I am feeling SO relieved!!!

Questions: None, other than what sex is my baby???

GTKY: (stolen from Group 3) What’s your favorite fall recipe?  Oh man, I love fall recipes, so it's hard to choose one.  For savory, I love our Guinness stew recipe.  For sweet, my mom's apple spice cake cannot be beat!  I also love pumpkin flavored everything!  #basic

    EDD: 5/2

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: finding out this week!

Baby is the size of a(n): mini cactus

Upcoming appointments: not until November 12

How are you feeling? Really bad cough but otherwise fine.

Raves/Rants: still waiting on panorama results. The wait is killing me. I don’t even care about the sex anymore. I just want to know that baby is healthy. I keep trying to convince myself that our NT results were so borderline that everything is probably fine but the other half of me can’t shake the anxiety.

    Questions:

GTKY: (stolen from Group 3) What’s your favorite fall recipe? Chili! My husband makes the best chili and he is going to make it next weekend for me. Can’t wait!

  • @spiderlover25 We're going to look together.  I want to meet up for lunch, but MH says he won't be taking lunch until about 2:30 and I have a meeting at 3.  Hmph.  I hope you get your results back soon and they're all normal!!!

  • @shamrocandroll @spiderlover25 Yay for finding out this week!

    EDD: 5/4 (13 weeks today, 1/3 done!)

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Finding out on Saturday. We’re doing an elective ultrasound, hopefully the baby cooperates because it did not cooperate with the NT scan.

Baby is the size of a(n): 🍋

Upcoming appointments: Elective ultrasound Saturday, but next Dr. appt is Nov 18th.

How are you feeling? Pretty good physically, except some body aches. Mentally, I am anxious! I want to be productive and plan for baby but it’s still so early and there’s not much I can do except pin everything to my Pinterest board.

Raves/Rants: Rave- We’ll all be in the 2nd trimester by the end of this week, woo-boo! 🎉🎉
Rant- my friends and I started Wine club this year so we can get together and catch up. Today’s wine club and the first one where I can’t partake in wine ☹️

Questions: Any recommendations to keep from thinking about baby?
Part of my issue is that I moved further away from friends and basketball season is ramping up for DH, so I spend the weekend by myself just thinking about baby. I need to get out and find a baby-budget friendly budget.

GTKY: (stolen from Group 3) What’s your favorite fall recipe? I love all of the Thanksgiving food, it’s a shame that stuffing and greens aren’t a popular thing all year long. However to cook, my fav fall recipe is gumbo

  • @drkoyya Are you having them do a repeat NT scan since they couldn't get that measurement?  I would, if I were you.  That's the biggest part of an NT scan, and I'm kind of shocked they didn't immediately reschedule you for another scan.  Also, 13w is still reeeeeally early for finding out sex on an ultrasound.  I would take it with a grain of salt if they tell you one way or another on Saturday.

  • @drkoyya I am in the same boat, finding myself sitting in the quiet just thinking about baby. I found the best distraction for me is to take my dog out for a walk and just clear my head.
  • @shamrocandroll The tech really wasn’t concerned so I’m not concerned either. I was originally leaning towards not doing the scan but I know how anxious I can be and didn’t want to fixate on the results. I ultimately did it because I wanted another look at the baby. We got a great look and seeing the baby move around so much made it really real for DH and me. If those are the only conclusive results, I’m happy. I still did the bloodwork so hopefully that’ll catch anything alarming.

I know the ultrasound this weekend won’t be conclusive but we just have to know. I’m going to a place my friend recommended and they were able to correctly identify the gender of her DD at 12 weeks. 🤞🏾

  • @drkoyya I'm really not trying to be alarmist here, but what did your OB say about the tech's inability to get that measurement?  That measurement is the whole reason for the NT scan, and it only works properly when it's done in conjunction with standard prenatal bloodwork (unless you are getting NIPT bloodwork, which I am guessing you're not if you're finding out sex via ultrasound).  The ultrasound technicians who take that measurement are specially trained and certified to get that measurement, and therefore, not just any tech can do it.  It's also not the tech's job to tell you if things look good.  That job is for the radiologist and OB.  The difference between getting flagged or not for high risk is sometimes tenths of a millimeter.  I would be asking my OB some serious questions if I were you.

  • @shamrocandroll yay for finding out today!!! Did you get an e-mail saying the results were received by lab? If so- how soon after did your doctor get results?

@spiderlover25 LOVE me some chili! Especially because there's so many variations and a lot for what I have just in the pantry/from a previous chili batch

@drkoyya yeah makes sense on your debate but  I think deciding to go with the scan is the right call, it probably calmed down any nerves just having it on the books!

    EDD: 5/4

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Pink! Confirming with NIPT results should be in this week

Baby is the size of a(n): lemon!

Upcoming appointments: In about 3 weeks

How are you feeling?  Much better! I think this "second trimester gets better" is definitely true for me. Going to start working out this week.

Raves/Rants:  Rave: my brother got married this past weekend! We are waiting to tell a lot of people until after this event was done, so  glad the few that did know were able to keep it a secret and keep the wedding 100% about them! Then selfishly glad that means we are closer to announcing- my birthday is next weekend and we might do it then to family who I talk to that day- with a social media post the following week.

Rant: *TW scary 12 week apt that ends up fine* my doctors appointment last week was very scary. We went for the hearbeat using two different machines, and nothing. My doctor said this was 100% normal and we'd just do an ultrasound and I'd get to leave with more pictures! The 5 minute wait to roll in that machine was so tense and I'm so glad my husband was there. The external ultrasound still didn't pick up anything and I kind of knew the worst was coming. We are at one of the top hospitals in the state, with a very experienced physician so I knew it wasn't any typeof user error. She said we will do an internal but called in another doctor which I knew wasn't a good sign, and she was still being very optimistic but was prepared. I was SO relieved when we saw her growing normal pace and that heartbeat. My husband and I both just started bawling as soon as we got into the car. We didn't ask any questions we had planned because honestly they just felt so dumb at the moment so I'm looking forward to our next apt.

Questions: Got the e-mail today that my sample was received from Natera this morning- has anyone received this e-mail and how long after did your doctor get results?

GTKY: (stolen from Group 3) What’s your favorite fall recipe? Normally it's this really good whiskey, fireball cider drink but maybe I can find a good cinnamon cider recipe to replace it! Recommendations welcomed!
  • @zaslawlz I didn't get an email from Harmony, but it took a week from draw to results!  That's so scary about your appointment!  I'm so glad to hear it turned out okay!  Did they mention whether or not your placenta is anterior?  That made hearing a heartbeat on doppler take a lot longer for me during my first pregnancy.  I know that feeling of dread between the doppler, the external scan, and the internal scan, and I'm so glad your experience had a positive outcome in the end!

  • @shamrocandroll I appreciate your insight and thank you for being concerned, truly :) I’m a newbie here and often don’t know what to think.

I didn’t see a normal tech. I don’t even know if tech is the correct title. The tech who did the ultrasound is certified and all she does is ultrasounds, typically with high risk patients. I actually had to go to another Kaiser office just to see her. I did do the NIPT bloodwork (the ultrasound I’m doing this weekend is through an independent clinic and not through my OB). I haven’t heard from my OB regarding the NT scan, but her policy is no news is good news.  I’ll bring it up in the next appointment but I don’t think I’ll reach out to her before that.

Regardless of the results of the NT scan, I plan to go through with the pregnancy. I would bring peace of mind to know that baby is healthy niece but I know there will be other opportunities throughout the pregnancy. Right now, I’m content to know that the baby is growing and is moving.

  • @drkoyya Gotcha.  Out of curiosity, why are you doing an elective US to find out the sex if you did NIPT?  The NIPT will test that far more accurately than an early scan.  The NIPT should cover the risk of missing the NT measurement, so that's good.

  • @shamrocandroll I asked and I was told that Kaiser will not test for the sex until ~20 weeks unless the patient is high risk. I just re-checked my appointment summary and it was the "1st trimester screen" which likely doesn't cover the full range of NIPT. Kaiser is all about evidence based practice so they only test for the basics. If something comes up abnormal then they'll do more comprehensive testing.

  • @drkoyya Yeah, 1st tri screen isn't the same as NIPT, and so I'm back to my original stance that you should be asking more questions about the unsuccessful NT scan.  I get that you feel you will continue the pregnancy regardless, but they generally won't repeat that measurement at future scans, and I would want that as information either way.  Just the perspective of a concerned bystander...

@zaslawlz i got the confirmation from Natera on Friday that my sample was received but no results yet. I went back and stalked April’s genetic testing thread and it looks like 5-6 business days from draw is the normal turnaround. I’m hoping today or tomorrow!

@drkoyya pic of genital development in spoiler. Boys and girls look almost the same at this stage but it sounds like seeing the baby will be really exciting for you and SO this weekend! Hopefully the NIPT testing will confirm the results for you by next week!

  • @zaslawlz The same thing happened to us Friday. She used the doppler to check and couldn’t find anything so I ended up getting sent over to US which was a 15-20 minute wait. Baby was just wiggly and didn’t want to be messed with, but definitely scary while you’re waiting and have no idea!

@d@drkoyya So we did find out via elective US with DS2 at 13+6, but he was measuring big and early the whole time so it was quite obvious. We did an US Friday (I’m 1 day behind you) and she said she couldn’t see anything yet so we’re waiting until 15 weeks to do the elective US this time.

    EDD: May 5

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Finding out in 2-3 weeks, hopefully!

Baby is the size of a(n): Lemon

Upcoming appointments: Nov 22 for 16 week check up.

How are you feeling? Still suffering from lack of appetite, night time nausea and general fatigue.

Raves/Rants: DH’s cousin (19 with two babies 1 and 3 months) texted me today to ask if I’m showing. I told her yes (nearly 30, third baby, little extra fluff these days) and she said “oh man, I didn’t show til 6 months even with my second!”. Girl. Ssh. I’m not 19 and 120lbs anymore.

    Questions:

GTKY: (stolen from Group 3) What’s your favorite fall recipe? I love fall baking. Pumpkin everything. Cheesecake. Baked Mac and cheese. Sweet potato casserole. Holiday food is the best and I look forward to my extra 10lbs.

  • @shamrocandroll no they didn't say anything about that- maybe I'll ask next time. Her guess was full bowels- my guess was that I inhaled a footlong sub and BBQ chips 5 minutes before she tried to look.

@rox7777 yeah after doing more research after the apt I was really glad my doc could bring it in right away and it was only minutes. I can't imagine your wait- and I saw others that had to schedule something for a few days out.

omg at that text from his cousin... what did you say back?! for what it's worth I'm a FTM, normal BMI, haven't gained any weight yet,  and very tall- thought I'd show super late but just started bumping this weekend. While mine is still easy to hide still in regular clothes, the bump is here for sure lol
  • @zaslawlz With my first I was a very unhealthy 109lbs and only 20. I didn’t show until seven months. It happens. With DS2 I was about 30lbs heavier and started showing around 15 weeks. I’m about 20lbs heavier than that now my abs gave up a few years ago. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It is what it is, but if I was 19 and 120lbs you’d be believe I’d be rocking a flat tummy too. 🤣
  • I am late to the game today but will be back for tags! I am so jealous of everyone finding out what they are having. Now that my husband convinced me to find out, I can’t wait! We won’t find out till December though

    EDD: 5:8

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: finding out

Baby is the size of a(n): plum

    Upcoming appointments: 11/18

How are you feeling? I have not thrown up in over a week and I am thrilled. I’m able to eat more too.

Raves/Rants: rant: the bump app hates me and wouldn’t let me sign in until now. I’ll probably start logging in via the web.

Rave: We took some fall pictures and I cannot wait to see them!

    Questions: none

GTKY: (stolen from Group 3) What’s your favorite fall recipe? White chicken chili. Also caramel fudge!

  • EDD: 5/5

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Pink!! Just found out a few days ago!

Baby is the size of a(n): Lemon

Upcoming appointments: had a follow up regarding my nipt results today. Although I'd already peaked online. AFP on the 25th

How are you feeling? Still so sickkk. I keep thinking I'm getting better but then I'll have a day like today where I'm just can hardly keep anything down. Got some new tips from a nurse so fingers crossed. Also pooping would be nice. 🤷🏻‍♀️ sorry tmi

Raves/Rants: My parents posted my pregnancy announcement and our name before my husband and I did. I had planned on doing it today after my appointment.I sent my mom a picture that I had planned on posting with the explicit instructions to NOT post. She sent it to my dad and he posted it. I know they're just excited, it's their first grandchild but ughhh. I may have flipped out a bit.

Questions: Anyone having any stomach or back pain? I've been dealing with pain in my lower left side since before I was pregnant. Had ultrasounds and they never could find anything. It's been bad lately. I talked to the Dr about it today and he said he thought it sounded like a posture issue. Totally plausible I'm overweight and a 38GG pp. But I don't know. Starting prenatal yoga and some stretches they recommended tomorrow morning so fingers crossed.

GTKY: (stolen from Group 3) What’s your favorite fall recipe? My grandmas pumpkin pie. Even being so sick I could eat a whole one
  • EDD: May 5th

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: green!

Baby is the size of a(n): peach, apparently

Upcoming appointments: AS December 10th. Feels so far away!

How are you feeling? Better in terms of energy, but still triggered by smells in an instant. Insomnia is insane right now.

Raves/Rants: I’ve got a whitehead on my lip that I tried to pop and made it worse... soo that’s all I’ve been able to think about haha

    Questions: none

GTKY: (stolen from Group 3) What’s your favorite fall recipe? Uhhh, butternut squash soup with rosemary flatbread?
