Combining the Weekly-Check-In Groups?

Hello,

I thought I would still post this and see the feedback. There has been some discussion on combining the entire BMBs Weekly Check-In together. I know that means those that there will be some drastic difference's in "Weeks Pregnant" but on the other end it would also allow for some more conversation / support.

(Any changes would take into effect for the NOV 4th Check-In)

Re: Combining the Weekly-Check-In Groups?

  • I'm pretty indifferent. Which I know is not helpful, but hopefully more opinionated people will have stronger convictions on this than I

  • I don't care one way or another if we combine.   But I am not convinced that will lead to more conversation.  I find the really long threads to be hard to follow, like Questions, and even the weekly check ins when they get past 30 or so posts.  Because there's so many different things going on in them, and then whatever topic interests me has come and gone by the time I have a chance to write in it.  And having to go back and figure who said what and what parts I want to respond to is just complicated.  I wonder if letting people post their own posts about questions or symptoms or whatever would lead to more natural discussions.  But I know I am biased, as I was super close with my first daughter's board, and that was before everyone started implementing these rules about where you could talk about what.  It might not even work now.

  • I feel the exact same as @MollySm.  In addition, I find the app incredibly frustrating to use and therefore don't participate as much as I would like.  Can we consider starting a FB group for our BMB?  I know personally I would be a lot more interactive.

  • @DalexRN, have you tried using the web directly? I'm anti-app, so I've never used it. It's the only way I post.

As a reformed FB user, I would say FB may not be something everyone has or wants access to. *shrug*
  • I’m also ok with either option, I know eventually we might want to take the group private.

@DalexRN I don’t even have the app since I’ve heard so many complaints. I just go on the web version on my phone or at work, works much easie
  • @FyreFlyeRush Yes the web is the only way I even bother to respond now, since the app is so glitchy and difficult.  I totally understand that not everyone is a FB user, it was just a suggestion of a platform that may be more user friendly.

  • We can think not Facebook group alternatives too like Reddit, WhatsApp, or Yahoo groups which all provide group options with their own pros and cons. I think the most popular alternative platforms is Reddit. But to be honest I have never used it so I don't know.

That is true. I'm paranoid by trade (ITPeopleProblems) about all of those, so no one is better than the other. But they're all more anonymous (sorta) than FB.
  • @marebear15 very true! when is american thanksgiving? maybe mid november is a good timeline?

I also watched how December BMB went private, they didn't really allow any time for people to join (3 days I think and it was a weekend) and many people got left out, as long as we're organized and give enough lead time it should be ok! I think we are still a good resource for the ladies on the FEB board regarding symptoms and what's to expect coming up so I feel bad going private too too early
  • @c1kc1kpol1cn1k - Yes, Thanksgiving is at the very end of November. That sounds like a pretty good timeline to start things. I know the September board had a pretty good set-up on electing admins and filtering members.
  • I am so down with a FB transition...mostly because I remember to check it much more often than I come on here! That said I also post a lot about my life on social media so I am less wary of the stranger danger thing than I probably should be lol
  • Personally I’d prefer to narrow it down to a private group before jumping to fb. I agree, mid November is probably a good time to start the switch.
  • Why not announce Nov 11, and close Nov 22. That give 10 business days for everyone to say PICK ME, SHREK!, but is still a full week before US Thanksgiving. I absolutely HATE the drama of FB, and 2020 is an election year. I'm still traumatized from 2016's vitriol.
  • @marebear15 I also liked how September set up their transition to a pg.
  • @kbrown2385 I think I remember that, they did the whole self picture with name written on it or something?
  • @c1kc1kpol1cn1k yes they did the tribute pictures with their pineapples lol
  • As someone who missed the transition with my previous BMB, it sounds like as long as we announce and give a reasonable time for people to indicate interest we should be fine.
  • With this being my first, I feel like I am completely out of the loop of what does and does not work. But I am on Facebook constantly and find the bump cluttered and not conducive to conversation. Also, maybe I'm naive, but I dont mind sharing my identity with Facebook. Anyways, thats where I stand.
  • I am old school with all of this, but why make a cut off for when people can join?  As long as they have been active on this board, or become active, why not include them? I know with my first BMB some people didn't even join until after the babies were born (and one was adopted), but now, almost 8 years later, those moms are still a big part of our group.

  • I'm happy to join a private group, but I don't use Facebook and went be joining you guys there.
  • @persnickity I think there are a number of people who don't use Facebook. Would you and others be open to other platforms (ie Reddit). I personally don't want to lose people just because we go somewhere people don't want to go. I know the bump sucks so I'm hoping to find something we could do that would be better but not be Facebook?
  • Also anyone used Slack. I know that people swear by it for work and it might give us the functionality and ease of use that other platforms don't. I think it should be something easy to use that updates and gives messages if we want them but also respects people's desires for a bit of anonymity. I personally use Facebook but have been wary of putting pictures of my future child on Facebook because it wasn't their decision so I would stay if we did FB but also think that there are other suitable options to look into that might be better for everyone!
  • @biolprof I use Slack for a social media ambassadorship I do and I despise it. But that’s just me 😂
  • @MrsJessS never used it personally. I have heard so many say they like it. Why the vitriol out of curiosity?
  • @biolprof it’s like on here with the mass boards where keeping track of a conversation/topic is overwhelming. If I get more than a day behind I just give up completely. For a non chatty work group it would be very functional. That said even when I have to go back to find information it takes forever because it’s not all in one place.
  • @MrsJessS yeah I can see that. Though I don't see FB as being better here. I have a great class discussion forum I love that has tagging and sorting features along with daily digests but not sure it works for not class groups lol. I'll keep thinking!
  • @biolprof I'm open to other options. I use slack for work and completely understand what @MrsJessS is saying. It can be a mess to catch up, if you aren't paying attention to slack non-stop
  • haha i feel like i'm the only one that the bump website actually work's well for, I've never had these issue's everyone is mentioning (only sometimes if you post a long message then the spacing get's out of wack on my phone). Maybe its a canada thing?

I dont have them either, and I'm in south Texas.
  • @c1kc1kpol1cn1k I use the bump app on my phone daily and have no issues 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’ve used the website on my laptop a few times and haven’t had any issues there either.
