I scheduled my glucose test for the Monday before thanksgiving too. They gave me the juice boxes and instructions today. I swear I was super tempted to drink them right away in my car. They're just regular organic grape juice boxes and I remember last time thinking they were freaking delicious.
@ibabyloveb87 since I did a 3 hour at the beginning (had some high numbers in my initial bloodwork) the dr said she's just gonna make me take the 3 hour one again. Which is fine. I didn't hate it. I'll just remember to bring my work stuff instead of a book!
@jvk2012 - we talked about it at mine too...I was like OMG I've already gained 30 lbs!! and maybe I should eat less pop tarts and they were like you can have pop tarts just not every day so I did not have one Then they said it is different to gain weight from veggies and good stuff than junk, which doesn't make sense to me, I mean a calorie is a calorie, but whatever. My midwives are kind of crunchy.
Also after doing the math I haven't actually gained that much just seeing a higher # made me freak out because as much as I talk about having positive body image I still have PTSD over weight in general. I am going to not stress out about it because i don't want to turn anorexic like my mom.

@leksiL I have a very similar struggle with body image and weight. Mine is more about the fact that my dad and brother are quite overweight and so my mom can sometimes get super obsessed with calories. I know she means well, but it isn't super helpful. I have also gained most of what the doctor had initially suggested was a good weight gain, but last time I saw her she said I am still good because I have been gaining at the rate they recommend. I figure, like your midwife, at least if it's veggies and fruits the baby is getting a lot of good nutrients. 🤷♀️
I am pretty athletic and generally eat well, but when I am pregnant I just gain weight regardless of activity level and nutrition. I think just some people have a tendency to gain more than others and that’s probably related to genetics. If I wasn’t into working out and nutrition as much as I am, I wouldn’t be over weight, but I would be pushing it. I have had body image issues in the past, but as I have gotten older I have tried to just be the weight and strength that gives me the most energy and positive hormonal response. I hope for those that are struggling with weight gain know that this is just a small portion of time in your life and you will lose it after the baby if you want. It’s honestly best to me to enjoy this time than worry about a number. Of course, be healthy, but also enjoy growing your human.
I've never been more happy for a Friday. I've got ~40 hours of OT on my timesheet from the last 6 days and today was the first day I wasnt in the office at 6am. Then I come in to find this on my desk! One of the engineers has given each of us pregnant ladies a couple of books for baby. How thoughtful, right??
I lost nearly 80 lbs before getting pregnant. It was on that huge list of “clean up your diet. Clean up your products. Lose weight” as all of the “easier” (eye roll - since we know it isn’t that simple) ways of trying to get pregnant. I maintained that lower weight for about 2 years beforehand. I know have to chill out when I see the weight climbing but I can’t say it’s comfortable. I keep telling myself we can do it again.
@mandk1233 My family is the same. Everyone is overweight and I have to remind them and myself that I lost the weight so I could get pregnant. I know this is part of it.
Today's is my daughters school carnival. She has a half day today so my in-laws are picking her up, hanging out with her, taking her to the carnival this evening and then she is spending the night at their house. I was reallllly pumped to be getting out of having to go to this crazy carnival but my daughter really wants me to go, so now I am meeting them there. Wahh. lol
I just signed up my daughter for a Halloween Bash tonight at Romp n' Roll. It should be fun! My husband has not been home this week so I'm going to take her out to pancakes first (she is on a soft food diet due to bumping her teeth earlier this week) first and go home and my house will have been freshly cleaned and we will skip bath so after her bed I will enjoy some ice cream and watch a movie.

@22ksi2 I feel like we’re in similar boats from reading your previous posts. I lost 65 and kept it off for 2.5yrs and it’s tough to see it coming back. I’m calorie counting now and it’s helping me just be more mindful of what I put in my mouth. I’ve been able to keep my weight the same for about 3 weeks now and am eating better food. My OB said I don’t need to gain anymore weight this pregnancy so I’m trying to stick to this weight without starving myself of course. But that mental battle is REAL.
...in related news, the conference at the fancy resort had breakfast of yogurt and fruit and tiny muffins this morning. Good thing I squirreled away a couple more muffins in my purse or this pregnant lady was going to get hangry on people!
I lost 100+lbs before getting pregnant and was scared to gain even though I knew I was going to. I've tried very hard to not alter my diet and to keep up the exercise I was doing before. Luckily my doctors have all been very supportive and encouraging.

Ah man. I just got a call from the OBs office that they still couldnt get clear enough shots of baby's heart. So they're scheduling me an appointment at the hospital (rather than the office) for round 3 of the anatomy scan at 23 weeks. I'm hoping maybe they can confirm the gender too (for my sanity sake!) The timing isn't great bc the appointment will be the week AFTER my shower. And we told people that while we believe baby is a girl...we aren't 100% certain so asked for gender neutral clothing.
I had my follow up ultrasound and MFM consult today. Sorry for the long post but wanted to share and didn’t really know where to put it.
1) umbillical cord attached to side of placenta instead of middle can cause small growth. As of today he’s measuring right on track but I will have ultrasounds every 4 weeks to check on that. At the end for the weekly appts I will have a non-stress test each time instead of just doppler heartbeat check. If at like 36+ weeks he’s not growing well they’d induce me.
2) single artery in the umbillical cord can be a sign of a genetic condition but since all anatomy looked ok and I had the blood test done they are considering it a random occurrence. They offered an amnio today if I wanted but I declined.
3) There was fluid in the stomach this time like there should be and last time they saw none so they know his digestive track is all attached. However, it was less than the expected so they will check again at my next ultrasound. But the fluid around him was a normal amount so she really is thinking it’s all normal. If next time it’s still low they would send me to Children’s for an MRI to see more about his digestive track
@jvk2012 So happy you got some positive news with his digestive track. And on the bright side, you get to have more views of baby.
I failed my glucose test (as I anticipated I would since I had GD with my first pregnancy). I'm a little disappointed, but at least I managed to fail so superbly that I get to skip the 3 hour. I'll take any silver lining I can at this point. Next steps for me are to reach out to the MFM. I know it will mean monitoring my blood sugar via the dreaded finger pricks 4 times a day and a stricter diet. But I'll end up getting to see more of baby, too.
Oh no. My mom called the venue for the baby shower yesterday to give them final numbers and they called her back today saying the small party barn our shower was supposed to be in is still not finished with renovations. They got hit by a tornado back in June, and told my mom when she scheduled in August they told her it would definitely be finished by now! She just called me almost in tears to tell me we're going to have to move the location. How exactly are we supposed to find a location in less than a week!?
@babyroma I'm really sorry to hear the venue won’t be ready! Are there any hotels that have meeting rooms you could use? An arena with a “party” space? Our swimming pool has a party room. Any schools that rent out their gyms for party’s?
@kbrinks2 mom was more annoyed that they waited so long to tell her it wasn't going to work! She was looking for community centers and things and just called to update, she ended up getting a party room at a restaurant, not a first choice location, but it will work just fine!
@babyroma I'm glad your mom found something, a restaurant should be absolutely fine but I would be leaving a super critical review on that venue's yelp. If your mom hadn't called what was their plan, just not to tell you????

@babyroma I can’t believe they didn’t call before she called them! That’s not good for business..... I’m glad she could find somewhere else. I’m sure it will still be lovely!!
