R/R: big rant ahead. My house is almost 100 years old, so I know it's bound to have its fair share of problems. A few years ago, we noticed a wall in our basement was bowing inward and had to have a basement repair company come in and install steel i-beams to support the wall and stop the movement. It was $10k to have it fixed. Last night, I had just put in a load of laundry and was headed up the stairs and noticed the wall opposite the one that got repaired is also bowing in horribly. It's probably bowed inward at least a foot. I'm so stressed out about what that is going to cost and how we're possibly going to afford it. We had to ask our parents for help last time and I really don't want to have to ask them again. I know they would in a heartbeat but I hate having to ask. Our sun room roof is leaking too (and has been for awhile) and we had been hoping to repair that this year but I don't see that happening at this point. And as I mentioned yesterday, today I get new brake pads and rotors. I could use a big lottery win here. I included pictures if you're curious though I don't know if they adequately show how bad the bowing is.
That’s rough @gingermama29. Are you in a damp part of the country? I live on the East coast and have had similar water related issues. For $, I got a HELOC and also did some fun projects with it in addition to necessary ones should you not want to borrow from family (I think rates are pretty good right now).
Month/Cycle: 5/4
CD/DPO: 33/2
Timing: -4, -1, O
Typical LP length: no idea
Testing: WFAF to start
R/R: I’m visiting a friend today who I haven’t seen in a bit which is lovely and then am having a meeting for my passion project/side hustle that makes me no money (small theater company for women) which is always fun. And it’s gorgeous out today, cool and sunny which is perfect.
On the less fun side, my car still is in the shop! The fancy rental is great but I’m about to put 70 miles on it today and was hoping to avoid having to put gas in it (not gonna be the case now).
@gingermama29 oh my gosh! I love the fact that you live in a 100 year old house, but oh my! That has to be stressful. I’m sorry you’re getting hit with all these expenses. When you had the one wall repaired a few years ago, did they look or assess the opposite wall (one in need now)?
Month/Cycle: 7/9
CD/DPO: 21/8
Timing: -1
Typical LP length: 9-10
Testing: I almost tested this morning but I’m too chicken sh*t now. Probably WFAF
R/R: all of our partners at our office are leaving town today for the company’s agm so Im taking my sweet time getting out of bed this morning. Last night I made an effort to start meal planning for the following week. It’s probably one of my hardest tasks as an adult. I like to decide what I’m eating the day of, but that’s starting to cause anxiety for me. Hopefully I can stick with it!
@gingermama29 I also live in an old house. 1901. We had to add support to our foundation. We did it ourselves after getting it assessed by an engineer. It was about $1500 total. Our floor was developing a hump from the bow. We had a friend who is a contractor help.
We used lollipop jacks and 6x6 beams.
Knock on wood- it worked.
@coffeeandcookies84 I use a meal delivery service. It’s only 4.99 per meal, then I just grab the bag labeled “pasta” and all the ingredients are in it. Life. Saver.
@pocketrose I’m on the east coast. We have a channel and sump pump on our basement. So much wet.
R/R: busy day at work and I’m fighting a cold still. I just want to sleeeep. Busy end of the week too- out of state conference I am helping facilitate.
@pocketrose yup, I live in a rural area of NY state. We've only been in the house for 4.5 years, so I don't know that we have much available in a HELOC. Have fun with your friend! Your theatre passion project sounds awesome!
@coffeeandcookies84 they did look at it but it was 3 years ago and wasn't showing signs of bowing. We've had some really rainy seasons though and the wall is on the west side of the house so it wouldn't surprise me if we have a drainage problem too. Enjoy your late start to the day!
@whatsbumpinpumpkin I wish we had the skills to fix this ourselves. I hope you feel better quickly! Nothing worse than a busy day at work when you feel like crap.
@whatsbumpinpumpkin I’ve also tried the meal delivery services, but everything is so expensive in Canada, that I didn’t feel like I was saving time or money. Ah well. I know DH is happy eating the same thing over and over so I need to get over it! Just the season we’re in I suppose 😀 sorry you’re feeling sick and tired. The weekend will be here soon enough!
R/R: Happy Hump Day everyone!! So glad we are halfway to the weekend...although I thought it was Thursday this morning, so that was disappointing when I realized it wasn’t! We stayed up way too late last night (DH wanted to watch part of a basketball game), so I can’t wait to crawl into bed this evening!
CS/Q: None.
@gingermama29 ugh, so sorry for the basement issues!! Hope it isn’t near as expensive to fix this time!! On the bright side, your chart is looking very pretty!!
@pocketrose hope you have a lovely visit with your friend and all goes well with your theater group! Hope your car gets fixed soon so you can get it back!
@coffeeandcookies84 hope you enjoyed your morning taking your time!! Good luck keeping up with meal planning! I try to do that weekly (although we eat the same thing for lunch pretty much everyday), and it definitely makes things less stressful, but we also allow room for changing things up when we want!
@whatsbumpinpumpkin hope your busy day goes by fast so you can get home and relax a bit! Hope your cold goes away too...lingering colds are so annoying!
