Pregnant after 35

Thoughts????

I know there are many stories out there of early pregnancy symptoms as well as many resources. However, while I wait until Monday to test again, I would like to try and get some advice.

If I am pregnant it’d be my 4th child. My other three are 15, 12 and 6. I am overweight and will be 36 in a few weeks. The only pregnancy I knew I was pregnant with was my third because I got sore nipples and that made me test. However his time around is tricky. My last period started close to Sept., 30th. October 9th we had sex and do the usual withdrawal method. Monday morning I had dropped my oldest off at school, came home and a wave of nausea hit me. It lasted about 10-20 minutes and went away. This was the day I started losing my mind. I even burnt my chili and that doesn’t ever happen to me! (LOL) Anyway, since Tuesday I have been having these pinchy and sharp like cramps on and off mostly on the right side but occasionally on the left. Back pain has been present too. I’ve taken 3 tests, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and all were negative. On top of all of this I just feel pregnant. It’s almost as if I am certain. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Without sore boobs/nipples? I am going to retest on Monday so am still unsure but very anxious. TIA!

Re: Thoughts????

  • I’m pretty sure almost no woman would turn a pregnancy test on CD 20. It takes a bare minimum of 8-9 (and usually 10+) days after ovulation (not your period) to turn a test. Most women don’t ovulate by cycle day 10, which is the latest you could ovulate to turn a test positive today. (Let alone you were testing on cycle day 15...not sure why?) Also, if you’re pregnant enough to have symptoms, you are pregnant enough to turn a test positive.

I recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility to learn how this stuff works. Also, if you are trying not to get pregnant, I recommend a more reliable method than withdrawal.

  • Thank you. Tonight, I got a little spotting, mild back pain and nausea coming and going. All of which are not normal for my PMS symptoms and it is a week before my period is due. So, I am going to give it a few days to see what happens.

Honestly, these are all progesterone-related symptoms and can be PMS symptoms. I would wait for your period before testing.
  • OK, I'm going to tell you my experience, but take it with a grain of salt, because it's NOT common. I'm 42, SO is 41. I have two children: 23yo and 7yo.

    TW:
We have a loss from Jan 2019. With my loss, I tested at 4w1d and was negative. I tested again at 5w1d and it was positive.

Mother's Day weekend, 2019, three weeks before my period was due, and right at O Time, I gagged midbite on a piece of salmon. I chalked it up to a migraine that was starting to build behind my eyes. We were at a crawfish boil, and I'd felt off all day. The sight of the crawfish and the taste of my Shiner Bohemian Black  just had me reeling. Again, I just dimissed it as Migraine (a normal PMS symptom for me), took some advil, chugged a Monster (for the caffeine) and hid inside to let the wonder cocktail kick in. Later, I was sitting on a bench outside when the smell of my parents' Great Dane assaulted my senses....from 5 feet away. My partner (who has the nose of a dog) said, "I can't even smell that! You're pregnant again..." I argued, because it was CLEARLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO BE PREGNANT WHEN I HAVEN'T OVULATED YET!!!

Flash forward three days, my chest starts tingling and my sense of smell is heightened...both right on target for my starting in 10 days. By the end of the day, my chest isn't tingling...it out right hurts. The smell of cat food set me off...I had a digital test left over from last pregnancy. I took it just to ease my mind... My partner was right. A dating ultrasound would show I ovulated about a week early...and we back tracked to realize we discovered I was pregnant ABOUT 3w3d. So, it IS possible to start experiencing symptoms as soon as implantation occurs, but it's not common.
