My son is going to be 18 months old the end of the month! Time flies. We are planning a short trip up to Canada this month so I'm excited. Haven't decided on a costume yet, and this year will probably be my son's first year trick or treating. I love the fall. I especially love to shop for fall and winter clothes and I just bought myself a pair of suede combat boots.  :)

  • I am SO ready for fall! We will take advantage of the cooler weather and do some day trips to the mountains for hiking. I think Abigail is either going to be a lady-bug or bee this year. Last year she was a pumpkin and we did just a few houses of trick or treating. I'm excited this year since she'll be able to walk up to the doors!

  • Since I have two redheads and my friend has been hounding me about it since forever, the boys are going as the Weasleys for Halloween.

I can't wait for fall, but since summer seems to be firmly implanted here in Bama, it will prolly happen around November, lol.

Matthew had his 9mo check up, even tho he will be 11mo on the 15th, today. His dr is super happy with his growth. He's 28.5 inches long and 18lbs1.5oz. 25th percentile all around, yay!
  • We're going to Disney at the beginning of October so I'll likely check out what they have at their shops -- usually their stuff is pretty good quality and cute. I looked at their online store and saw a few things that were cute for toddlers, but I want to make sure she can walk easily in it.

I keep thinking Anne is 18 months already haha. We'll have her 18 month check when she turns 18 months at the end of the month. She's saying a few more words now -- trying to say 'dog', 'no', 'yes', 'that' (used normally when she points at something or reaches for it because she wants it) - so I'm trying to not overthink the whole language thing. It's very easy when you studied language acquisition and so keep watching for the various stages/levels. I'm only counting words that are more or less intelligible and produced consistently for a specific meaning -- she has alot of other utterances when she's talking to herself/etc that I don't include because I'm not sure what she's saying or trying to say. Sometimes she'll say "mama no!" or "mama yes!" when she wants my attention because she doesn't want or wants something, lol, usually because she doesn't want to nap.

This is going to be a tough one ...  Looking forward to baby's first birthday (and party!) soon!  But October will also be a year since my mom's passing. :(. We didn't end up doing costumes at all last year (not that we get trick or treaters where we live anyway), but it's going to be even harder this year, and it's been looming over me since August pretty much.  I'm not sure we will bother since she's still so young. :/
  • @wildrainbow. Glad to see Matthew doing so well!  Great job, mama ❤️

@mbradfo2 (((hugs))) it's so hard not to stress about these milestone things.  I'm no expert, but I would bet you're right, there's even more she's saying that you may not be giving her credit for!  I have heard it doesn't matter if she's using anything like the correct word, if she says the same thing consistently. Like if she calls the doggie wow, that counts too!  Fx Anne's apt gives you more peace of mind soon.

@mtpbadger those costume ideas sound great!  We are excited about the start of hiking season around here, too.  So far just a short on last weekend, but then we got to see a little patch of our first BEACH too!!! (Reservoir lol) such good quality time.

@cashewchicken. Ooh!  Where in Canada?  I am looking forward to a fall wardrobe update myself.  I lost so much baby weight so far, we'll have to see what even fits! Lol. Feel free to AW your new fall footwear ;)
  • @mbradfo2 I feel like the language milestones are harder for us parents than physical ones, in terms of pressure. Or at least it felt that way for me. I was so worried about those first few words! It sounds like Anne is doing great!

@wildrainbow that's awesome Matthew is doing so well!! He's come such a long way in the past few months.

@BusinessWife I'm sorry for the upcoming anniversary of your mom's death. I can't imagine how hard it is. It's hard to feel like doing some of those normal things, like costumes, when you have something bigger on your mind. This is the first year we'll do a costume and DD is 2. Don't feel bad for skipping it.

DD is obsessed with pandas, so she asked to be a panda for Halloween.

@wildrainbow awww sounds like Mathew is doing great better then 25% it sounds! Way to go mom!!

@mtpbadger so funny I believe I’ve got a bee and ladybug in waiting too.  They’re so cute.  I don’t do Halloween but I did have a cute Lil pumpkin thing for her to wear too...I couldn’t resist.

@mbradfo2 sounds like Anne is doing great! I also panic about all the milestones.  My girl talks up a storm but nothing super clear yet so here’s hoping.   How fun Disney will be I’m not that brave yet to go.

@BusinessWife it must be so bittersweet getting ready for a wonderful celebration and your mom isn’t here for it, I’m so very sorry!!!
i certainly hear u on the weight front, technically I’m lighter now then when I did my transfer even though I don’t feel like I look like it....but that ivf weight is frustrating for sure!!! Between all the outs and cycles I feel like that’s always going to be the baby weight I can’t get rid of!

  • I was tearing up today because I was swapping out her 12 month size clothes for 18 months. My baby is not so little anymore. Getting a bit of baby fever though! Also, I was trying to pick up some more 18 months mix/match and found this ADORABLE pajama set..  "Donut give up!" says Mr. Donut

It tooks like the earliest Anne will be in preschool is this January so I'm trying to find some activities for her in the meantime. There is a kids' art studio in my town and I might sign her up for some classes. Has anyone tried something called 'Little Gym'?  Not sure if it's national or just local. They have dance and games for the little ones  -- the older ones do gymnastics.

  • So the twins have graduated to 24/2t clothes. I'll be going through the 18 mo. stuff and boxing it up pretty shortly. I sniffle every time.

Does anyone else have issues with pants for their little dude? If it fits longways, its falling off his skinny rump. If it fits around the waist he looks like he's wearing cropped skinny pants everywhere else. Is there a brand recommendation for adjustable waist pants?

@mbradfo2 I gave the twins plain blueberry cake donuts recently. Victoria ate most of hers and then tried to switch bowls with Chase, who is a much slower eater. It was no dice, we could hear that "MINE" throughout the house.
  • @stella_700 Try Cat and Jax from Target. They have adjustable waists for girls
  • @stella_700 You will find it easier to adjust pants in 2t. Old navy has some good ones and baby Gap. Carters has some as well, but theirs is mostly draw string, which aren't the greatest. We have the same issue with pants for ds1 and Matthew. I agree with Cat and Jack from Target, they adjust pretty well.
  • @persnickity @wildrainbow Thank you ladies, I'll start looking online at both places. : )
  • So is 24 = 2t? I've been trying to work out how the sizing work. We're moving into the 18 mo clothes now. Anne has the same problem with pants -- the ones that are long enough are huge around her butt!

We had our well check yesterday and all was good. The doctor said about 10 words is normal at this age and she seems to be hitting that. Dropping off the preschool registration forms today and she'll start that in two weeks -- three days at first and then up to 5 as she gets older. It's going to be strange going back to work more often but hopefully it will mean less work in the evenings so I actually get to relax (shock).

  • @mbradfo2 24mo and 2t aren't exactly the same. 2t tends to cut a little narrower because toddler tend to lose the baby fat the more active they are, so, the waists are narrower and the inseam is a little longer. If that makes any sense? The differences are pretty subtle.
  • @mbradfo2 i thought we could skip 24 mo and move to 2T, so I didn’t get anything 24 mo for our son....now I’m having to buy a ton of 24 mo pants! The pants definitely fit differently. 2T are way longer in most brands, so his 18-24mo pants are too short and his 2T pants are way too long. I have noticed that if I buy resale items, the 2T length often fits fine, but when I buy new it doesn’t - even In the same brand.

Hi! Been busy and just generally tired. Loving everyone’s costume ideas. I should probably get a costume soon but haven’t made up my mind on what I want my son to be. He hates dressing up so even if we were to buy a costume he may just be in it just long enough for me to take a picture with it.

For all the moms with babies with long legs, have you tried Burt’s Bees Baby pants? I love their clothes since they are so soft and stretchy but the pants aren’t made for babies with short legs like my son. I just compared their jogger pants with a similar style from Carter’s and the BBB pants was 1.5 in longer even though the hip size was the same.

I should try those - although we're sticking to shorts until it gets cooler (Florida). Anne's waist/butt area is usually loose while pants and shorts run short on her. I also attribute this to the gradual loss of that baby pudge! Her legs are still pretty chunky though, heh. I always worry about whether she's eating enough! She's at that stage where she only wants to feed herself and she's moderately successful with that (good with finger foods, still learning utensils) but has nights like yesterday where she was using a fork and got so excited that she could use it properly that she barely ate anything because she was more interested in spearing the next piece of pasta than actually chewing and swallowing what she put in her mouth >.<

  • @cashewchicken I will have to look into those pants. All pants are too short for both boys because they are ridiculously long legged.
  • My girl is in the 90% and I’ve been in 18/24 months all summer.  I was hoping the 2t shirts would fit a lil longer but not so much.  I liked rompers and dresses with capris on her best so not looking forward to her cold wardrobe just yet and what the right size will be....so many things run differently it’s crazy!!  I had a bunch of 9mo pants that fit her as capris for the summer cause some of the 18 shorts were too tiny and the pants were too long.   Shayla is a few months younger but seems like she’s surpassing everyone.  I did carry to full term and she was a big baby so that probably has something to do with it.

How much milk is everyone giving? I’m still bf so she gets some from me but she still gets a bottle.

I still feed her her a bunch and by the end of the meal she makes a huge mess and feeds herself! Banana and cereal are the worst to get off her head.

  • @mbradfo2 my two are still doing this. I’ve loved a lot of this experience but cleaning up after feeding time at our zoo is not one of them. One of the first weeks after we started finger foods I asked my friends with older kids when they start to feed themselves without disaster zone clean up afterwards.
  • @mbradfo2 My baby is losing his baby fat too. I looked back photos from a year ago and he had no neck and had rolls on his arms but no more. His belly is still big tho. My son also insists on feeding himself and in the past few days no bibs. He doesn’t drop nearly as much food as he did months ago but still. And his appetite was great last week but this weekend he has pretty much refused solid food. Been having milk, yogurt and purée pouch for the past two days. Not even eating cookies he used to go crazy for. Maybe he is growing his back molar. I don’t know. Just when we thought we got his meals figured out, things change and we are back at square one.

  • @hopeful_mom Abigail is still getting a mix of frozen BM And whole milk. The amount of whole milk varies day to day .....sometimes she drinks a lot and sometimes about 5-6 oz so we try and supplement with yogurt and cheese too. She is still so tiny...she was wearing 6-9 month onsies today and 9 mo pants And is almost 17 month! Pjs she is finally filling out 12 or 12-18 depending on ve brand but still fits into some smaller sizes too. It’s hard to buy clothes for her for the next season bc she’s is all over the map with what fits her!
  • @mtpbadger So true, it’s hard to buy clothes for babies! Different brands fit differently and even within the same brand, different styles fit differently. Argh. At 6 mo old my son was wearing 9-mo old size so fall of last year I went ahead and bought 18-mo size jackets and sweaters for him to wear during winter. Well they were huuuuuge and I regretted not buying 6-12 mo old size that fit him better back then. I got lucky that the clothes still fit so he will be wearing them this year. But lesson learned, I’m not buying seasonal items like thick jackets and T-shirts ahead of the season. I live in SF where it’s cool year round so summer rarely is hot and winter doesn’t get too cold.

  • @cashewchicken thankfully some jackets/outfits I bought for the Spring she is able to fit in, so they are now fall outfits lol.
  • @mtpbadger
I also feel Anne is all over the place with size -- consistency between brands is terrible! She just fits into 18 month Cat n Jack clothes from Target (the 12 months are just a tad tight). Some t-shirts won't fit over her head (she's in 90th' percentile for head size) but then the pants are not the right fit. And then I ordered an 18 month for her Halloween costume and it's huge! But my mom bought her some 24 month stuff she fits into....it's wacky.

We ended up coming home early from our Disney vacation that was supposed to be this week. Anne had an absolute meltdown in the hotel room and refused to sleep (even with daddy cuddling her). So we drove home. Luckily they didn't charge us anything but now I have to figure out what to do with the rest of our week! We'll go to the Children's Museum tomorrow and I was thinking the zoo but it's super rainy.

  • @mbradfo2 Poor Anne (and mom and dad!) That stinks about your vacation but hopefully you can find some other fun things to fill the week! There must be something in the air/water - Abigail had an epic meltdown at daycare yesterday and was sobbing so hysterically that I got a call about it (which hasn't ever happened!).
  • @mbradfo2 sorry Disney was a bust this time around hoping the rest of ur week went smoothly!

I find the sizes of so many items are just off.  Through the summer I had 9month pants that became her summer capris cause they fit her better then the rest of the 18m shorts I had for her.  I love all the rompers I had and found putting her in dresses were just easier then dealing with all her shirts riding up on her.  I ask Preferred the dresses so she stops playing with her belly button....the one body part she knows along with her nose.  :D

@mbradfo2 I’m sorry that your vacation didn’t go as planned. Hopefully you had a relaxing and fun rest of the week though. Traveling with a toddler is not easy. I’m one of those annoying types who like to cram in gazillion sites to see and thing to do while on vacation but I realized after two trips with DS that that’s not going to happen. If I get to go out and do one thing on the list, then it’s a good day.  Used to get on my nerves that DH is my opposite, he just wants to chill and do nothing while on vacation. Now I’m extremely grateful that he’s that way. My son got sick when we were in Asia and DH was quite happy to just camp out in the hotel room and watch over our son while I stepped out to go grab food and get some shopping done.

@Hopeful_mom Playing with belly button is cute. My son loves to play with my belly button. He also loves to play with his penis. A couple of months ago, his ear was the only body parts he could point out, and we wanted to teach him more body parts and the only one that stuck was penis. He quickly learned to point to it when I said a nickname for penis in my native language. We realized it was a terrible idea to teach him that after he started to point to his penis when we asked him to point to his ear. WHAT? We haven’t mentioned it again since we didn’t want him to point to his private parts every time his teachers asked him to point to various body parts. Grrr.

  • I can't believe it. Matthew is one!! He turned one yesterday and I swear it's been the longest and shortest year of my life. He had his one year shots yesterday and he is 30 inches long 19lb2oz. He is anemic, so we have to give him iron fortified foods. He cant take a vitamin with iron because it makes his reflux worse. He's not going to enjoy being fed by me to eat some infant cereal, lol.
  • @wildrainbow happy first birthday! What a tall boy so cute! It’s crazy how fast it’s going!

@mtpbadger awww poor Abigail and mama, that’s must’ve been a scary call to get did they know what set her off, poor girl!

@cashewchicken omg lmao!!! That is amazing!! Now she knows her nose and consistently digs for gold, I offer to help her get the booger....but she’s always confident she can get it on her own Oy!

  • @wildrainbow Yay one! Happy birthday! Matthew is tall! He’s almost as tall as my son who is 18 months old (though his height is never accurate as he is always not laying still, freaked out about what will come next... shots).

My boy got a school picture taken today! He was supposed to get his picture taken yesterday but he freaked out and no amount of soothing by his teachers calmed him down. So this morning DH and I went in to try to get him to sit/stand still long enough to take a picture. Forget about smiling. He looked a bit terrified in the picture but hey it’s still better than the pics I take so win!

  • Hi everyone! I guess it time to move from being pregnant board to here 😊. My baby boy was born on 1October. On 30 Sept I went to OB appt and because I had high blood pressure the doc sent me to L&D. They started induction at 0100 pm on 30th and my baby was born at 1202 am on 1st Oct. It was an amazing experience overall, I tried to go natural but at 7cm dialated I buckled up and asked for epidural, I’m not as strong as I thought I would be 😁. But the whole process progressed so quickly that the contraction became very intense very quickly.
Right now I’m enjoying motherhood, it’s amazing and I’m so in love 🥰.

  • Congrats @dukie001 !!!

Did they think you were developing pre-E or were they just be cautious? My girl came early at 35 weeks and change due to pre-E (but she didn't need any nursery time or anything) and I remember it being a bit of a wild ride from getting admitted in L/D to moving to induction two days later.  I also had a really positive birth experience though I had a c/s due to failure to progress -- I was immediately in love and just over the moon with joy!

  • @mbradfo2 Thank you for invitation, I’ll definitely join.
My MFM doc told me that my elevated bp is not the reason to go to L&D, however my OB decided it won’t hurt to induce me 5 days earlier than scheduled. I was only 1cm dilated and 50% effaced when I got to L&D. And from the time they started induction I progressed 1cm/hr. But overall, in my opinion it doesn’t really matter whether it’s a vaginal delivery or c-section, it’s still giving birth to a little human that you carried under your heart for 9 month and it’s amazing.

@dukie001 Congrats mama!! Glad your induction went well and baby boy arrived safely!
