Re: 1st/2nd trimester weekly check in October 7th

    • How far along/EDD? 31w5d Dec 5th
    • How are you feeling this week? Getting very uncomfortable! My hips and pubic area hurt and make my middle of the night bathroom trips painful. I’m also out of breath no matter how I lay or sit.
    • Rants/Raves? Questions? I have a sinus infection and ear infection. I’ve been fighting it for a week and finally went for antibiotics yesterday. It’s fall break, ds and I both have dentist and doctor appts this week and our shower is Saturday so hopefully I feel better soon.
    • Any upcoming appointments? Friday for biweekly check up and last scan ☹️
    • GTKY: If you could meet anyone (dead or alive!) who would it be? That’s a tough one. I have no idea, I guess anyone influential that I could get advice from?
  • Good morning ladies!
    • How far along/EDD? 26w3d (1/11)
    • How are you feeling this week? Ok for the most part. Just can't believe I'm approaching 3rd trimester soon. I mostly feel anxious about the transition from 1 to 2 kids and worrying about how we'll be able to handle everything.
    • Rants/Raves? Questions?  My only rant is that work has been crazy busy and I have so much to get done before my leave, that I have no idea how I'll be able to do it all. I come home so exhausted that I have no energy left for anything else.
    • Any upcoming appointments? 3 hour glucose test tomorrow. Unfortunately I failed the 1 hour test this weekend by a few points so now super nervous about passing this one.
    • GTKY: If you could meet anyone (dead or alive!) who would it be? My mom and I talk about this frequently, but I don't know a whole ton about our family's history. I only have 1 living grandparent left and he's in his 90's. But I don't know much about my relatives further down the family tree. So I'd love to meet my past ancestors and learn more about our family's history.

  • @k_mama91 so sorry about the sinus and ear infections...I hope the antibiotics help and you feel better soon! Speaking of showers, I don't think I'm having one this time around, but DH said to still put together a registry for anyone that asks and if someone wants to get us something after the baby is born. But I'm struggling with it, and aside from clothing as this is a different gender, and a few other items, I can't seem to fill it up. We already have so much stuff. Do you have any must haves you added for a second baby?

  • Happy Oct 7th week everyone! Hope everyone is doing well and getting enough rest and time to put our feet up!
    • How far along/EDD? 18w1d  3/9
    • How are you feeling this week? Good overall, but still having bouts of tiredness. I’ve also come to realize how much I’ve grown bump-wise since a week ago; it kinda feels like it just appeared overnight! I’m just so eager to start feeling kicks!
    • Rants/Raves? Questions? Related to my last bit, any women who have been through pregnancy before or are far enough along to feel kicks, what does it first feel like? I keep thinking I may miss it, but have also heard it’s a pretty distinct feeling.
    • Any upcoming appointments? Second OB appointment is tomorrow. Should be going over all the blood work I had done a couple of weeks ago (standard testing). I haven’t received any calls, so am taking that as all good news, but eager to just hear it straight from the OB. And hope I’ll be able to have another peek at baby tomorrow as well!
    • GTKY: If you could meet anyone (dead or alive!) who would it be? Oh, that’s a hard one! I’m a bit of a history and literature buff, so there are so many dead people I would love to meet to pick their brains lol. A few off the top of my head are: Anne Frank, Eleanor Roosevelt, Charles Dickens, Mary Wollstonecraft.
  • @sincethelastday my first kicks with both babies didn't feel like kicks at all. Initially, it felt like twitching or like tiny popping bubbles down low. With DS, eventually, it felt like a fish was swimming from side to side and I'd feel this wooshing movement. With this baby now, I still mostly feel twitching/popping bubbles throughout the day down low in the pelvis when I'm sitting with now added kicks like she's throwing a punch. And recently, I started seeing the movements from the outside so when she kicks, I see my belly move in that area too.

  • @k_mama91 sorry about needing the antibiotics - but hope they do the trick quickly

@Tulips29 my OB is having me skip the 1 hour test and go straight to the 3 hour - got it thought insurance because my mother had GD. Fx your 3 hour goes smoothly
There are quite a few STM TTM and even 4thTMs on the March board and the product spotlight threads might give you a few more ideas of what to add (and what not)

@sincethelastday good luck tomorrow - hope you get to see baby!
First movements for me were quite early but only just after DH sent his very deep voice vibrating into my belly when we were laying quiet in bed at night. And it felt like a stomach gurgle, but without the gurgle and not in the stomach but instead just above my pubic hairline (and just to the left as my uterus was on that side to start with).
In the last two weeks there were different feelings which last scan and today I could feel again during the ultrasound so I now know they are girl using my bladder as a punchbag and my stomach as a football. Also when she really moved her head a lot (my OB was poking her to get her to change position - unsuccessfully) I could feel that down near my pelvis too.
I would suggest you try laying down very quietly for half an hour but before drink something sugary (my ob also suggested this today!!!) and then just see. It depends where your placenta is laying and how the baby is positioned.

    • How far along/EDD? 18+3 7th March
    • How are you feeling this week? Today great! My “quick check” US lasted over an hour as the OB had med students with her so she walked them through in the tiniest detail and went back to show things again when they asked questions. However baby girl was head down, feet up and her back to my front - which made getting good pictures and all the shots they wanted really difficult. She would not move. But every time they tried to move her she pummeled my bladder with her tiny little fists!!! I say tiny - she’s already 18cm long and weighs 230g!!! She looked great and the est news my placenta has started to move a bit and doesn’t now fully cover my cervix! Hoping it continues in that direction! Overall I feel pretty good during the day - but totally dead by 9pm no matter what I do and OMG I have never had constipation like this before. For 20 years I had the other problem so this is new territory to me. Didn’t realize how debilitating it can be.
    • Rants/Raves? Questions? I guess my raves and rants are mostly above. Question - constipation - what have you been allowed to use for that? I’m already on magnesium, drinking plenty and eating lots of fruit and veg.
    • Any upcoming appointments? No more appointments until next week for the official anatomy scan.
    • GTKY: If you could meet anyone (dead or alive!) who would it be? Dead I’m going to go for Cleopatra today! And alive I would go for the Queen (of England). Two amazing powerful women who saw much in their lives.

Fav Quote: The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return

  • Thank you ladies, today is round two of meds so hopefully I feel more human tmrw!

@Tulips29 I struggled making a registry. It’s been 9 years and aside from a crib we have nothing. However, I know how much useless gear I had last time so I only asked for the bare minimum this go around. I have a feeling I’ll be returning things we get. I did not ask for bottle or wipe warmers, diaper genie, baby towels and wash cloths, or a traditional baby tub. I did register for basics like socks, short and long sleeved onesies for layering, and swaddle wraps.

@emmasemm That’s great news about your placenta, I hope it continues moving!
  • Thanks @Tulips29 and @emmasemm regarding what early kicks/movement feels like. Helps me with determining what I’m feeling in there and I like the idea about taking some time to lie down and “listen.”

Also, weird that when I posted I didn’t see the first three posts, so catching up with everyone’s updates...

@Tulips29 - good luck with the glucose test tomorrow! Hope it comes back with successful results! Hope you start feeling less exhausted and less panicky about having two children. Do you have any friends or family who would be good to talk to about going from one to two? Hope you find some helpful support in that area. And love your idea about meeting ancestors! I don’t know too much about my own family tree, so it would be really interested to meet great-great-great, etc relatives.

@k_mama91 - ugh, sorry about the infections!! 🙁 Really hope you start feeling better soon so you can enjoy your shower on Saturday. Are you having a big or small shower, themed, etc?

@emmasemm - that’s awesome that you had such a long US so you could really have a lot of time seeing baby! Although, too bad she was a bit camera shy ☺️. Also good news about your placenta moving - hope it continues to move in the right direction.
  • @sincethelastday Thanks! The shower is a few close friends, a few family members from my side, and a ton of family from dh. So I guess average sized? We’re doing a Halloween theme and while I’m excited to see how it pulls together I’m also ready to get it over with bc I have major anxiety about being the center of attention.
  • Happy Monday! As the list below gets longer please let me know if I’m missing anyone! Pregnancy brain is real

    • How far along/EDD? Tomorrow is 16w0d
    • How are you feeling this week? Tired - getting used to side sleeping. Hungry all the time but unable to eat much at once. I am starting to feel bloated/full with the uterus moving.
    • Rants/Raves? Questions? I announced to my work last week and everyone is so excited! I’m a project manager, so my projects will be transferred to coworkers while I’m on leave, but no one seems to mind the extra work they’re going to get next year.
    • Any upcoming appointments? Friday is 16w appointment
    • GTKY: If you could meet anyone (dead or alive!) who would it be? I would also love to meet Queen Elizabeth II. We share the same birthday, plus she is pretty amazing.
  • @emmasemm I’m happy to hear about the placenta moving! FX it keeps behaving :)
  • @emmasemm that's amazing that you had such a long ultrasound and even more amazing news on your placenta moving! Hope it continues to move on up. And thanks for the tip, I will check out some other boards for item ideas.

@k_mama91 I agree with you on returning a bunch of stuff. We returned so much after our son was born and we found some items really useless. I feel like now I'd much rather take amazon gift cards over actual items. Even with clothes, I registered for cute outfits and little baby pants for my son. Realized that was a mistake and now I'll take all the easy footed onesies (no buttons!) for less hassle during frequent diaper changes.

@sincethelastday funny (or not funny) enough, most of my friends have 1+ kids and everyone just says it'll be chaotic and crazy but all so worth it in the end lol. I mean, I get it, 2 or more kids are not easy to handle. But I figure plenty of other people get through it all somehow, so we'll be ok in the end. When DS was born, I thought those sleepless nights of him crying for hours would never end and we'll be in zombie mode forever. Eventually that all went away too. So I keep telling myself that when times get tough, just repeat over and over that this too shall pass.

@LauraJon2015 good luck with the appointment on Friday!

  • @k_mama91 I’m so sorry you’re sick! I was just lamenting the cold I have, but a sore throat is nothing compared to a sinus and ear infection! Did they tell you it’s ok to take Sudafed? It is....but sometimes doctors tell pregnant women to avoid all meds except Tylenol, which is lazy.

@Tulips29 the only “new” item I’ve been debating is a double stroller vs a wagon.....I feel like a wagon will make more sense, but then I’m overwhelmed with the options out there and they are SO expensive! I try to buy all our kid stuff second hand off FB marketplace, that way if we don’t really use it I didn’t spend a lot and I can just repost it for sale haha.

@sincethelastday my early kicks have felt like gas moving, but just slightly different. It’s hard to explain, but I definitely knew it wasn’t gas, even though it was similar. It’s also a lot lower in my pelvis than gas would be. Everyone seems to feel it differently and at very different times though. My friend is pregnant for the second time and only just started feeling small flutters at 19 weeks, which is much later than with her first.

@emmasemm glad to hear your placenta is moving! I had the same issue with my first and the specialist said that unless the placenta was centered over the cervix at the early scan that it almost always moves enough by 32 weeks for vaginal delivery (it was well out of the way for me by 32 weeks). I had complete placenta previa at my anatomy scan a few weeks ago and they said the same thing - they’re sure it will move by delivery. For constipation I used colace, its super mild and won’t give you cramping or gas like Metamucil or Miralax. You’ll want it after delivery too....the postpartum poops are terrifying!

    • How far along/EDD? 22+3, 2/8
    • How are you feeling this week? Starting to get pretty uncomfortable and gaining weight literally everywhere! I also have my son’s cold so booo, feeling crappy!
    • Rants/Raves? Questions? Rave: we spent this last weekend getting the house and nursery more settled, which has helped me feel much less stressed! There are still a lot of projects, but it’s feeling less intimidating. Question: any of you with other kiddos having intrusive thoughts about something bad happening to them? I don’t know if I’m just more hormonal this time, but I keep having these flashes of panic over something awful happening to my son.....but maybe that’s just because he’s a toddler and they are all about doing super dangerous things all the time??
    • Any upcoming appointments? Next week is our echo with MFM

  • @laurajon2015 do you share her real birthday or her official birthday? Or do you have two like here hehehehe!

@poemasque my placenta was exactly centred over my cervix still 2 weeks ago - so we were all shocked by how much it had moved already yesterday. I also read in my OB textbook that “moving” is not really what it does as such but seems to be more inaccurate early angles from early scans. Especially if it moves with no bleeding. I’ve just moved on to worrying about placenta accreta- because I have to have *something* to worry about lol!
But talking about worrying about something awful happening - I already have nightmares about my husband and future daughter in a car crash, her falling down our tiled stairs, her falling off our terrace, getting hit by a car on her bike... And since I was 6 years old I had a recurring nightmare about thieves breaking into the home, family members disturbing them and them killing everyone they could find... I’m not saying this is normal, but the doctor I saw as a child said as long as I was not restricted in what I did every day then they saw no issue with my nightmares or my strong concerns for safety... Short - some degree of concern has to be normal!

Fav Quote: The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return

  • @PoeMasque Sorry you’re sick too! I had been eating Sudafed and Benadryl like candy until I finally decided to go get antibiotics. I’m still a snotty mess but more functional now. Also, I have horrible thoughts about something happening to ds ALL the time lately. It’s very disturbing.

@Tulips29 Literally just told someone that the outfits with pants and tops were a waste until after 3 months. I stocked up on gowns this time and he’ll be living in those the first month or so.
  • @PoeMasque I've wanted a wagon for the longest time too, but DH thinks we will never use it and it'll be a waste of money and space. He's so hard to convince when it comes to buying things! But he might have a point too. Before DS was born, I found an amazing deal on a practically brand new Halo bassinet on FB and we never used it. DS hated sleeping in it so now DH brings it up saying the other expensive "extra" items aren't necessary as well. Our stroller converts to a double but DS hasn't used a stroller in like a year now, so he thinks we also don't need a second seat for him and we're just getting a little standing board he can ride along on if needed. Also, sorry to hear you're sick now and I hope you feel better! As far as thoughts of something bad happenings, I thought I was going crazy with them and I was alone thinking this. Since we converted DS's crib to a bed where he can get out on his own, he comes out of his room when he wakes up. We can't put a gate on our stairs because our rails are weird and we can't attach a gate to them. We allow him to walk up and down the stairs on his own, but since we converted the bed I've had crazy thoughts that what if he falls down the stairs in the middle of the night when he gets out of bed. Then the other day my friend told me her daughter fell down the stairs at school and she had to rush home to pick her up (luckily she was OK), but that amplified my crazy thoughts even more. I have no idea how to get rid of them!

@emmasemm OMG the thoughts of car crashes drive me crazy! I used to have them all the time too before our son was born, and then they stopped. A few months ago we got rear-ended on the highway and our son got so freaked out he immediately started hysterically crying when the impact happened. Luckily no one was hurt, but since then I swear I have mini panic attacks when we drive and have to suddenly break or someone stops short in front of us. It gives me so much anxiety and now I'm worried this feeling will never go away.

As far as movements, the first time I "felt" something was just that my belly felt 'off' and I could feel gurgles where there shouldn't be gurgles. It took a couple weeks to progress into noticeable movements and several more weeks before I was getting definite kicks to the gut. I had an anterior placenta which muffled alot but you'll get used to your baby's pattern. Usually they like to be the most active just when you're ready to lay down XD

    @Tulips29
I also had crazy nightmares as a child of my house getting broken into or catching on fire while we slept -- I used to go down and check the burners to make sure they were off. As an adult, I was diagnosed with mild OCD (mostly obsessive thoughts that devolve into anxiety) and I've been pretty good as long as I take my medicine. My little one is starting preschool next week and I'm absolutely petrified that they won't watch her well enough or she'll suffocate while she's sleeping on her cot or something. It's irrational, but I recognize it's just part of my heightened concern about everything. As long as you can still carry on regular activities, it should be fine. Mine only became a problem when my fears got to the point where I was doing things like being late to work to check all of the doors before leaving or driving 1 hr to work on my day off to make sure I moved a paper off my desk so the cleaning people didn't accidentally discard it. All irrational. One mantra I've learned is, "I've worried about this before; everything was fine then and everything will be fine now."

Can I answer the extra question? From a distance, I would love to meet King Henry VIII just to see the legendary monarch. But I would love to have dinner with Proust or Jane Austen!

  • It’s been a crazy weekend as it’s Thanksgiving weekend up here in Canada and we’ve had a bunch of family things to attend, plus we hosted dinner for my side of the family yesterday. But there are two things I wanted to comment on that I found quite helpful to consider.

@Tulips29 - you mention about your firstborn crying at night and you thinking that stage would never end, but every stage passes. As a first time soon-to-be-mom, I found this very helpful to hear. I mean, I know a child won’t cry every single night for the rest of their life, but I can’t help but be worried about how DH and I will handle having a baby and all the changes that come with it. Like, are we really prepared for this or can you never really be prepared totally? But just the reminder that those stages when it’s rough being a parent will pass was a great reminder for me to hear!

@mbradfo2 - I love your mantra to quell worries!! As someone who has been a huge worrier all my life and whose anxiety seems to have only gotten worse over the years, any mantra like that I find very helpful! Thanks!

And thank you to everyone who has provided me with some ideas on what first kicks may feel like! I think I started feeling some a couple of days ago because they definitely don’t feel like anything I’ve experienced before. I’m so grateful to have this group of women to ask questions and hopefully provide some support to as well! I guess that’s my sort of cheesy Thanksgiving toast to you all ☺️💛
  • @sincethelastday my job when we had our son was as an in home parenting education nurse, so if anyone was prepared, it was me! But you are spot on, you will never really be prepared. Your kiddo is going to be unique and what works for other babies will not work for yours and vice versa. Our son was suuuuper colicky, like clockwork from 4-7pm starting at 6 weeks and ending around 12 weeks. We never really understood why there’s so much education around not shaking your baby (cause what monster would DO that?!), but when your baby literally screams for 3 hours straight it does drive you crazy (plus the sleep deprivation). You also may experience disturbing thoughts about harming your baby, lots of women have these thoughts, if you have them there isn’t anything wrong with you, again, it’s part of sleep deprivation and hormone changes. Everything you know will change: your body, your brain, your relationship with DH, your relationships with friends, it’s literally a total transformation. My best advice is to give yourself grace those first 3-4 months, you will be getting to know your baby AND yourself all over again, that all takes time and lots of trial and error! Oh, and any of those moms that say everything is easy or act like it is - they’re straight up lying. Trust me. Haha
