Re: Chart Stalk / Questions - October

  • Another possibly dumb OPK question here. Yesterday afternoon I had a reading that was high (T/C ratio was .87). This afternoon my OPK was low again (.63) which made yesterday's reading change from high to peak. Is that normal for a reading to change like that?
  • @gingermama29 I think so! I had one in the pm that was high, like .93, then in the am, it was 2.1. By the pm it was .4 or something. So it changed the .93 to high and the other to peak. If that makes sense 🤷🏼‍♀️
  • Loading the player...
  • @gingermama29 yep, I would keep testing though because sometimes I get a high then low reading then later get a true peak.

  • @gingermama29 what kind of test are you using?

All--- I brought this Q over from the Waiting to O thread to see if you all can help me:

Now that I have a few months of  OPK use, it seems that I have a 28-day cycle with an LH surge on CD 17, likely ovulation on CD 18, and then about a 10-day luteal phase.  (no charts, because I haven't been temping, just using OPKs until now)  I am worried that the luteal phase is a bit short, and the internet seems divided about whether the cutoff for luteal phase defect is 8 days or ten days.  I have an RE appt but it's not for another five weeks.  Anyone tried chasteberry, vitex or progesterone cream?  Anyone tried the Proov home progesterone test strips? Anyone with a short LP who might have some advice or thoughts?  Thanks, all.

  • @litigatorgal I have a shortish lp too (avg 10 days) with spotting before af. I haven’t tried anything yet but I want to go get my levels checked as I have other concerns as well. I’m pretty sure @namelessaria tried those test strips but I don’t think she had a good experience with them. Do you have spotting before af too?
  • @litigatorgal I have a short-ish LP (9-11 days) and my OB and RE were not particularly worried that it was keeping me from getting KU. I tried Vitex for a few cycles and saw no change. I might talk to your doc before using Progesterone, though. They can do a 7DPO test to see how your progesterone looks during your LP and prescribe some if necessary.

    FWIW: ***TW PP mentioned***
I had a very short LP (8-9 days) and had no trouble getting KU last time around. Now, my LP is slightly longer and I'm having trouble, so basically in conclusion 🤷‍♂️
  • @konoha I don't have much spotting before AF.  But I also have limited data: I had an IUD until a few months ago, and I had ovarian surgery right after the IUD was removed, so I only have a few cycles of post-op, non-IUD experience and so it's hard to tell what's normal for me.

@jennifer_louise thanks for the feedback.  i'll talk to a doc before trying progesterone.  I ordered some vitex after reading the published studies saying it doesn't hurt and might maybe maybe help.  I don't think it'll do anything, but I feel the need to be doing something.  Normally I wouldn't take anything that's not evidence-based, but TTC makes it hard to avoid magical thinking and desperation.  I feel like another few months of this and I'll be drinking enchanted tea I bought off the internet and putting crystals under my mattress!

@gingermama29 how do you calculate your t/c ratio?  I have been eyeballing my OPKs and now I"m wondering if I O'd at all!
  • @litigatorgal I use the Premom app for OPKs and it calculates the t/c ratio for you :)
  • @litigatorgal what @chaos-and-coffee said. Premom does all the analysis work for me
  • @chaos-and-coffee and @gingermama29 thanks!  I'll add that to my ever-growing collection of TTC apps.

  • This is weird. Not sure how all of the meds affect everything and I’m not 100% convinced I ovulated yet...

@NYTino24 WOW, that’s a spike! Not sure which meds you’re on but progesterone in oil did that to me the first time I took it. Hoping this means something good!

@inthewoods23 That’s a great question! It will be intriguing to see others’ responses. AFM, I use about 15-25 LH strips per cycle—crazy, I know! But it’s because I do two-a-days or three-a-days for the 3 days around O to catch my surge, and I also do an LH strip every time I do an hpt strip cheapie during the TWW. I realize this is excessive but I want to be sure I catch every *tiny* increase. (There’s a reason I call myself a serial tester😄)
  • @keikilove I went for the 30 pack. I figure I have another 5+ from the last time I bought OPKs earlier in the year so maybe another 10 max needed to pinpoint O? And that's assuming O is around CD17 or so. Current predictions say O is this weekend, but we'll see. The apps haven't had any real data for the last few cycles with the ER and FET.

I am still curious though how many people tend to use each cycle!

  • @inthewoods23 I typically end up using about 10-15 I think. I test every day starting at around CD7, and I up it to twice a day when I think O is imminent, then I test the surge out. Basically I buy a new package every other cycle.

  • @inthewoods23 I usually start at CD10, test 2x a day during FW and O around CD22. So 15-20 or so?
  • @mvt2003 @chaos-and-coffee thanks ladies! I got a chuckle this morning when I read the package instructions again as it says for a 30 day cycle to start on CD14. No wonder my OPKs are super negative, it's only CD12 today. O should be sometime this weekend though

  • @keikilove I haven’t started progesterone yet. That’s tomorrow and a suppository. I am pretty sure I have the flu. Temp went up to 103 when I got home from work around 5. Back down to 99 now though.
@inthewoods23 Depends on how consistent your O is. When mine was all over the place, I probably used 2 for ten days. Now I probably use more like 8 each cycle.

  • Ok, stupid question. Does anyone know how to change the BBT in FF? Mine shows in Celsius but I want to change it to show in Fahrenheit and don’t know how to do that? Help 🤨
  • @mindyb2019 looks like you can only change it at the beginning of your cycle which is weird! Sorry :(

  • @konoha oh that’s weird 🤨 darn-it  ok, thank you.

  • WTH? I know I was sick, but now my body is acting like ovulation never even happened. Maybe the triggered follicle was just filled with fluid and there wasn’t an egg in there? Totally not hopeful. And of course I tested out the trigger. Still in my system.

  • I need some help/insight on trying to figure out when to start progesterone, please!! FF says I ovulated on Tuesday...I was thinking it was either Monday or Wednesday. I have a slight fear that I haven’t O’d at all, but with the continuous rise, I feel like I had to, right?   I haven’t really had much CM this cycle compared to previous months, so that’s kind of throwing me off! I also had light spotting on Monday, which could have been O spotting...I’ve never had that though. We changed to heat (which we keep 4 degrees cooler than air) on Sunday, so I’m not sure if that’s affecting temps. Would you go with FF and start progesterone tonight, or wait until after tomorrow’s temp and see if O gets changed to Wednesday or if CH’s go away? I tried messing around and discarding some of the early temps, but that didn’t do anything. Only thing that will change it is if I remove all CM, and then it takes away CH’s (but I know I’ve had some at least). My RE said taking progesterone too early could affect O if it hasn’t happened, but I don’t want to start it too late either! I’ll be trying out OPK’s again next cycle to help with clarity on O to avoid this! Sorry if I’m over-analyzing and should just shut up and start the progesterone! 🤦🏼‍♀️

  • @bluetickgal If you take away CM and put a high temp tomorrow does it give you crosshairs for Wednesday? I think it looks like you Od, but could you call to get a progesterone test to confirm?

  • @millpe it does, I didn’t even think to put in future temps! Thanks!! I thought about that, but I don’t think I could get in quick enough to get results today. I should have called this morning! I may call to see if it’s possible, or they think it’s necessary. I normally feel pretty confident about when I’ve O’d, but I think the pressure of starting progesterone 3 days after is messing with my head!
  • @bluetickgal if the only downside of starting to early is because it could prevent ovulation, I think you’re good. But I don’t know enough about progesterone to really say. But I am pretty certain you ovulated
  • @bows22 yeah, as far as I know that’s the only issue with starting it early. I’m guessing you are supposed to start 3 days after just so you can confirm O by then (not really sure though). I called the RE and left a message, but I’ll probably just go ahead and start it tonight if I don’t hear back...because it does seem like I O’d at some point in the last few days!

Thanks for the help ladies!! I’m already on the crazy train and the TWW just started!
  • @bluetickgal I have no advice, as I have ZERO idea how to read charts....

....but I'm here for moral support ;)

  • @kpearse99 haha, thanks friend! That (and the monkey gif) are totally appreciated! 😊
  • RE nurse just called back and said it’s better to start it later than early. She said there is really no harm in starting later, but there could be in starting early. She recommended I wait...so I’m going to see what my temp does tomorrow morning, and then I’ll start if my temp stays up and CH’s remain. Now I can relax until tomorrow morning! Thanks again ladies!
  • @bluetickgal I was going to suggest that, but I don't know much about temping/charting to be honest.... but my gut was telling me it would be better to start later than earlier. I'm glad you were able to talk to them and that they could give you solid instructions to follow!!
