  • Looking for thoughts/opinions on what to do in this situation.

I'm in a group chat with DH and his family. MIL just posted a picture of some cupcakes that she frosted and decorated with cactus type plants on top. Typically I check the messages in the chat but don't always respond. I looked back a 2nd time and saw that my SIL commented on the cupcakes and then MIL made the comment that I must not like them because she knows I saw the picture but I didn't make a comment on them (Google Hangouts shows the person's picture for how far they've read in the chat window).

I can't decide if I should ignore it and not comment on her comment or if I should say something like "just because someone reads a message doesn't mean they have to comment on it. I'm exercising that right".

This isn't the first time she's made a comment that I actively read something as it's popping up but don't ever say anything so I'm annoyed at this and don't know what the best way is to get her off my back about it 😑

    Ideas?

  • @inthewoods23 Oh my dear god that would make me crazy. I forget to respond to things all the time, and being called out so passive aggressively is completely inappropriate.

    1. Is this something that if you do respond will bite you in the butt later?
    2. Is this something YH should handle since it's his mom?

Honestly, I can be such a contrary B that I would want to say something snarky like "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all" but probably best not to say that. :D

  • @inthewoods23 I agree with @bows22. I’m the worst at responding too, like I’ll read it and not have time to respond or not know what to say and then I will forget. I think her solution sounds great and that way it isolates it to not cause anything in the group chat. You could then tell H to politely let her know that not everyone has to respond to every text and that if you don’t it doesn’t mean anything negative. That way he has that convo so you don’t have to and hopefully clears up any hard feelings. Sorry you have to deal with this, I hate passive aggressiveness like that.
  • @inthewoods23 that's ridiculous that she's being so passive/aggressive.  I am pretty sure you have a lot to do besides look at and comment on cupcake photos.
I also agree with @bows22. I wouldn't call.her out on the group chat but definitely let her know you weren't ignoring everyone.
  • @inthewoods23 I’m on the same page as everyone else... I would just say something like “oh no, I’m so sorry I got tied up in a million things and I never got a chance to respond. They look great!!”  Something along those lines.  When it comes to family, it’s not worth saying the things you really want to sometimes... ya know? Especially in laws!

AFM... I don’t think Chase wants me to workout .... 🤦🏻‍♀️🐶...

  • @inthewoods23 it’s okay not to be okay. Sending you hugs. Take care of yourself and we’re always here, particularly to help handle annoying MIL situations.
  • So I’m super late to this conversation but my nursing instructor that is an expert on all things sex and reproduction (she said she wants to be that lady on Talk Sex with Sue) said that a hysterectomy can make orgasms difficult to achieve because an orgasm is a contraction that starts at your uterus. Unfortunately a lot of people go in for hysterectomies and have no idea, because we don’t talk about things like female pleasure.

    Things to think about!

healing comes in waves, and maybe today the wave hits the rocks and that’s ok, that’s ok, darling. you are still healing, you are still healing- Ijeoma Umebinyuo, be gentle with yourself

  • @inthewoods23 That is just a shitty situation all round. I have had some moments with my MIL in the past as well so I can relate to the annoyance that come with the small underhanded comments. I find it best to just let them roll right off you. They have no idea what you are going through or dealing with in your personal life. Mine doesn't make the effort to find out either. Spend your energy where it is most beneficial to you and let YH deal with the likes of MIL. Sending you hugs  <3
  • @HotSauceSwagBag Personally super thank you for that random bit of info about hysterectomies!  I am SERIOUSLY considering a hysterectomy after my failed TTC years and RPL and this is something that was never mentioned to me, nor that I was aware of!!!  So, super thanks!
  • @mvt2003 mmm.. I LOVE salmon but no one in my house will eat it but me so I never get to have it unless I’m out at a restaurant:(
