  • For all you ftm’s - PSA - vtech toys are made by satan himself! Your child will love them, you will despise them!

I'm all about Passive toys with little or no Active elements. Better put, Active infants manipulate PASSIVE toys. Passive infants are entertained by ACTIVE toys.  A passive toy will only react to baby's manipulation of it. This can include ACTIVE elements, meaning baby kicks or hits it and music plays. But, after about the gazillionth time they kick or hit and music plays, you'll just turn it off anyway! @leprechaunlady is totally correct...VTech toys are Satan's tools!
EDIT - They say mobiles are Active toys, which is probably true, but both my kids talked to them and wiggled and kicked and waved fists and arms and got super excited by them...so I don't know if I'd say mobiles made my kids Passive, lol.

  • Does it make sense to no register for specific toys? I feel like toys are highly popular at baby showers, but I feel like people have a good idea what to get toy wise that I don't need to make suggestions? Or am I putting too much faith in people?

  • @stashattack, my view on registries is this...if there is something specific you want, PUT IT ON THERE. That's the whole reason the registry exists. If you're open minded about the toys you're going to get, just add a note to the invite saying you're looking for toys for X age range
  • @stashattack I agree! Put what you want on the registry but really put essentials down since you don't want to be overloaded with toys. I asked for books to start a library for DD
  • @c1kc1kpol1cn1k that’s a good idea!! 😍

  • Not so much a toy but my sister in law offered to let us borrow a doc-a-tot. Thoughts? They honestly look like a breathing hazard but I know they are wildly popular and exorbitantly expensive so I wonder what STMs think of them.
  • @biolprof I didn't use one, but I've got a friend who did and liked it a lot. I think it really depends on personal preference.

@biolprof we didnt have one either but anyone who I know did have raves about it! However, one of our f17 mamas is a pediatric consultant & referred to them as an overpriced dog bed which isnt suitable for unsupervised sleep.

  • @leprechaunlady yeah I just can't see how they are safe given what we know about crib bumpers but what do I know! I guess I will just suffer through not having one!
  • Our babies loved wooden clicker/clacker type toys. Round rattles they can hold onto to shake, colorful fabric books with different textures/sounds. Not a fan of bulky, loud plastic stuff. You’ll end up with some of it no matter what but it’s not my favorite. My general advice for new parents is to lay the expectation for gifting early. My in laws have bombarded us with cheap plastic toys that break easily since our oldest was a baby. It is very, very overwhelming. If I could go back in time I would use words like “wooden, no battery, montessori style toys and/or books please”. Those are the guidelines we use for buying our kids toys but the influx of gifting has been out of control (with no hope for the future at this point - lots of these toys go straight to goodwill after my kids have played and gotten bored of them within weeks)
