I had a meeting yesterday afternoon near my parents so I brought dd with me (& my aunt looked after her while I went to my meeting), so were spending today with my mum as she has a random day off. we’ll go home tomorrow & dd has swimming & then just chill out the rest of the weekend. Might go shopping for dh’s birthday on sunday & start our christmas shopping aswell to get what we can out of the way early just incase.
@leprechaunlady I’ve started thinking about Christmas shopping. Thars the last thing I want to be stressing about as we get closer to baby time.
Nothing exciting for us! Dh got a surprise day off today, landscapers are coming by for a quote, hopefully getting the dresser so we can get that painted and set for the nursery. Ds and I have a play date tomorrow and Dh is working Sunday so I will hopefully be relaxing.
DS is going to try to spend the night with his cousin again. Stomach flu preempted that last weekend. Saturday we have a birthday party for SOs nephew. Sunday, I better not be doing anything but chilling out!
IL's tonight for a cars and coffee show by them tomorrow morning. Hubby is really into cars and so is his dad. And his dad is FINALLY taking is 2011 mustang out to shows again. I mean the thing as like maybe 3500mi on it. Even DH doesn't garage his mustang like that. (though he currently is panicking over his current parking situation since we drove it into work today. I usually drop him off and have parking at my job).
Then we'll come home tomorrow after noon and chill I think. Maybe another car show Sunday. But mostly chores and stuff the rest of the weekend. I wanna tackle our front garden which I didn't do at all this year and it's a mess of weeds and the old owner's plants which I hate. We will see if I get to those. But I have hope because I actually managed to only have like 3 dishes in the sink today so dishes and the kitchen aren't going to be a huge issue to tackle this weekend.
@marebear15 Happy birthday to DD! Mine is turning 2 next Saturday. Are you guys doing a mostly family party or including daycare/neighbor kid friends as well?
I’m in Barcelona for work (there is a big scientific conference here), so my weekend is going to be full of meetings and attending presentations and putting out fires.
@EmilyE13 - Mostly family. We have a lot! 10 from my side and 15 from DH's side. Only one kid from daycare, but I'm friends with the mom. We'll probably start doing daycare kids next year or maybe wait until she's in K4.
Joint birthday party for DS and my nephew. We are the ones traveling this year (5 hours!) because my sil is due again in mid to late October.
@leprechaunlady I also have most of my Christmas shopping done for my in-laws since we'll be up there for Thanksgiving, and little to no plans to travel after that point. We only get gifts for my parents on my side of the family, which makes things nice and easy for me!
my husband went back home to europe for two weeks so it's DD and I all weekend together haha. Most likely we'll go to a local farm for apple picking and fall harvest activities
@kbrown2385 uff I don't even want to think about Christmas shopping but you are right, somehow it's already October (more or less) and these next couple of months will fly!
@EmilyE13 I always find it so ironic that conferences are in exotic places because there are so many presentations that I never have enough time to get out or I feel guilty about not going to pieces of the conference... Then after all the talks and whatnot, I'm too exhausted to do more than order uber eats and sit in my hotel room! I hope you get some fun though! What conference is it?
Wow it's the weekend for birthday parties. I think I might go to our grad students kids birthday party this weekend. Three of the department grad students have kids turning 3 soon so might go over to say hi.
@kbrown2385 and @leprechaunlady I was thinking about Christmas shopping. The last thing I want to do is have to worry about it later especially if something comes up and the babies are early or I'm in the hospital so I need to start thinking about it which is a bit overwhelming to be honest....
@stashattack I also have plans to hopefully tackle the yard but other things might take precedence...
Goals this weekend: cut baseboards and buy trim paint, finish the dresser for the nursery with some furniture wax, make sure I've got everything ready for classes next week and maybe tackle the yard!
I have to take a big exam tomorrow at 7:30am, boo.. But later we will have board game night with the family.
Sunday we may be helping my aunt with mental illness move furniture...so I am a bit worried about how that is going to go. She has been ex-communicated by almost everyone else, but I can't bring myself to cut someone out if they haven't directly hurt me. I don't know what else to do.
@EmilyE13 are you at ESMO? Someone from my department is attending, so I've been seeing all her fun Barcelona pictures although I'm not there myself this year. Have a great conference!
Its our town's community day Saturday so well definitely go to that in addition to all the normal weekend activities (grocery shopping, swim lessons, gym, etc). DS and DH are going to a Nerf event held by our YMCA, but DD is too young to participate, so ill have to think of a mommy-daughter activity we can do together while they are there. It needs to be either free or nearly free, though, because my cat ended up getting expensive emergency surgery this week and I'm extra stressed about money as a result. 😩💸
2 of my kids have rehearsal for The Music Man tomorrow. And then in the evening we are going to a big pig roast that a bunch of people put on every year. Sunday we have no plans, which hasn't happened in a million years. H leaves for work on Monday, plus it's tech week this coming week, so I will try and get things organized and ready for the week, and get my kids as much downtime as humanly possible before the week of craziness starts.
Took the day off and basically slept all day. It was glorious and I finally feel like I'm on the mend though still not breathing as clearly as I'd like. Kitchen needed a serious cleaning because both MH and I have been sick and lazy all week. Working and coming home to clean while sick was NOT a priority. I barely managed to cook for us lol. So we finally tackled the 4 days worth of dishes tonight only to discover our sink is clogged. We tried everything but looks like we have to call the plumber because it's too deep. I really miss having a garbage disposal. This house runs on septic and the previous owner did compost so never bothered with a disposal. I thought I'd been doing good the whole year we've been here, but clearly I'm letting too much crap go down the tiny sink holes. 😰 so yay, another bill added to the list 😫
Oh, but tomorrow afternoon we have a friend's baby BBQ to go to. It's basically a man shower since this is her 5th kid, but his 1st, so she didn't want a baby shower but wanted to do something for him. It should be fun so that'll be nice to go to. I'm thankful that right now I'm feeling well enough to attend but we'll see how I feel when it's actually time to go.
Sunday, just cleaning and relaxing and hopefully a visit from the plumber if one is available.
Edit: added weekend plans which was the original question
You all are WAY ahead of me in holiday preparations. I’m always a last minute shopper for Christmas, but obviously that’s going to be difficult this year.
@biolprof@cats_in_a_window Yep I’m at ESMO (it’s an oncology congress). So far I’ve spent more time in my hotel’s meeting rooms and the conference center than actually exploring Barcelona, but I had a fantastic tapas dinner last night at least and may get to wander the city a bit more today. I’m pouting about not getting to enjoy the Serrano ham, all the soft cheeses, and the Spanish wine, though.
