Re: Weekly Question Thread w/o 9/16

  • Just got a phone call from the OB that I was freaking out was my genetic results but it wasn’t not—i had a contaminant in my urine sample and they want me to redo a urine sample to be sure it is there before they treat me? My question is: ahhh so vague! what might this mean? The OB wasn’t like “it’s nothing bad” but stillllll.

  • @kagesstarshroom hmm that is odd! I’ve never had that happen. Maybe it was the UTI bacteria or something. One time I had 0 UTI symptoms but my OBGYN called to tell me I had one after my normal appointment and gave me meds. I took them and they made me super sick. I’m not convinced that they didn’t screw up and give them to me by accident bc I’ve had UTIs now (had never had one at that point) but I can’t see how I’d not have known I had one (they are painful!) and I’ve never gotten sick off the meds since that time.

  • @varimama thanks. maybe that is why she wanted me to redo it to make sure? bc omg i do not want to be super sick from medssss. just went and redid it— but i did ask on the phone if i should have any symptoms and she said that when you’re pregnant you might not be symptomatic. i hope when they re run it if it’s still positive i get some answers but i am just so curious what it mighttt be for now. slash slightly panicky even tho she said it was “nothing bad.”
  • @kagesstarshroom hope they can get results for you fast and it’s nothing bad!

  • @kagesstarshroom it could be a little bacteria and they want you to redo it to make sure you’re doing a “clean catch.” It’s surprisingly easy to contaminate urine samples.
  • @kagesstarshroom @varimama My understanding is that UTIs are pretty common in pregnancy and you may not know you have one. It’s no big deal as long as they treat it with pregnancy-safe antibiotics. They especially want to be sure you don’t have Group B Strep (a particular UTI) because if you have that at any time while pregnant you need antibiotics during labor. But it’s one of those things where if they know about it and treat it, it’s nothing to worry about. Speaking from experience.
  • @kagesstarshroom it's likely just bacteria that was found in your urine! If it was something more urgent or concerning they definitely would have made more of a big deal about it. I had bacteria in my urine once during my last pregnancy, and it was literally because i only used one wipe for the "clean sweep" before I peed in the cup. I went back in, wiped with the 3 freaking wipes they give you, and it was all good. When things comes back abnormal, they usually double check so that they aren't throwing around antibiotics unless absolutely necessary. Keep us posted!
  • @mommyxthree2020 WELP I guess no one ever taught me to pee in a cup bc I definitely just sat down and peed both times, no extra wipes were asked for nor were wiping devices provided! The things I learn on these boards.... I think you're right tho, that it's not something to be tooo concerned about (or at all really) sine the OB told me it was "bad," but-- you know, can't help but worry about myself/the bean! Thanks for your reply!

@momoftoddlers Thanks for the "probably no big deal" pep talk! I appreciate all of you. But sorry that you were speaking there from personal experience, and hope it wasn't too much of an inconvenienced/annoyance for you to have to go thru what you did!

Still haven't heard back re: the new UA, but I'll keep yall informed. ^_~*
  • This is kind of random and probably more for STMs+ but does Jujube ever do sales?

I saw that you can use buybuybaby 20% off coupons on them but they also marked up the price so it was only like $5 off. I love their flying keys line and I need a new diaper bag but idk if I can justify the price.

  • @varimama I get their emails and they did a labor day 20% off sale, so it does look like they occasionally have sales.

  • @varimama also check Facebook bst groups for diaper bags. There’s a general diaper bag one and also a jujube one. Sometimes you can get really good deals on slightly used ones!
  • Well guys...I’m an idiot!! I ate cojita cheese 3 times in the past week only to realize today “hey dumbo, that’s a soft cheese”...eff. So naturally now I’m freaking out that I got listeria and looked up that u can get it n not even have symptoms until 30 days after exposure!! So officially tripping out, crying and terrified!!! I’m sooo stupid!
  • @mrsc918 soft cheese is fine, it just has ti be pasteurized and it prob was

  • @varimama I second @miss.sally's suggestion!  I got a barely used JuJube at a fraction of the price!  Ebay is another good place to look.
  • Oh man idk how I missed the Labor Day sale @kailanae! I’ll have to sign up for their emails.

Thanks @miss.sally and @keeksie84 I’ll have to look, this is a newer print though so I’m not sure how many people would already be willing to part with it.

  • @mrsc918 you are most likely ok! I had a similar thing happen last pregnancy and I freaked out. I had to make myself sit down and realize that it was a mistake but it was already done so I couldn’t do anything but avoid it in the future. Most likely it was pasteurized but even if not that doesn’t mean it had listeria.

  • @mrsc918youre probably okay! I had some not so crispy bacon recently and I also had some Brie and prosciutto in the beginning due to confusion of cured meats vs. deli meats (too much information out there!) I’m sure it’s fine! As long as it’s pasteurized - you will be okay!
  • Is anyone here getting the bloodwork done for spina bifida? I have no recollection of having this done before, but my OB ordered the bloodwork and I had it done yesterday. Just wondering.

  • @EmilyLove25 I remember doing it with my first, but I can't recall when in pregnancy. I haven't heard anything about it this time around, and I think I will bring it up at my ultrasound on Tuesday.
  • I'm not sure if I'm Imagining it, but I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and I think I started feeling movement yesterday. It's been coming after I drink something sweet just like with my first baby, and I recognized the sensations from being pregnant before. But with my son, I did not feel anything until well after 20 weeks...

Can you feel movement this early??
  • @EmilyLove25, I got offered it today at my monthly check-in appt. Sounds like you can do it up to 23 weeks, and my OB was fine seeing results of anatomy scan to see if it was worth going through the test (I hate needles). Said it also checks for gastrointestinal issues. Seems pretty common 🤷🏼‍♀️
  • @jenEP and @pdx2020 Thank you both! That's reassuring!

@Madamemerle Every pregnancy is different. I'm a TTM and 15+1 weeks and the past two days I've wondered about two things I felt... so you never know! I can't freaking wait to have no doubt though!

It's my understanding that it's scientifically possible to feel movement starting at 13-14 weeks. Of course none of us can tell if that's what you're actually feeling unless you were having an ultrasound at the same time to confirm the movement.

I'm 14+6 today, and think I've been feeling a tiny bit of movement for the last two days. No way to confirm, but it's fun to speculate.

  • @Madamemerle I definitely started feeling inconsistent movement around then. I feel a little more now (15+2), but still inconsistent and I have to be sitting in certain positions.
  • @EmilyLove25 I had the spina bifida test done!  It was part of a larger screening through Myriad. My OB said it's standard, but you have to opt in to get it done.  I was all for it.  The more screenings, the better!

@Madamemerle @miss.sally @stassischroeder I think it's possible to feel movement that early.  I've heard you can feel it sooner if it's not your first pregnancy, but that could just be because you know what to expect?  I don't know.  I'm 15 weeks today and I don't think I've felt anything.  But I'm a FTM and I've heard that's pretty normal.
  • @Malidocious I definitely didn’t feel my first until 20 weeks on the dot.
  • Thanks for the replies everyone! Sorry I'm just responding, I can't access the forum through the app atm.

I'm pretty sure it's movement I'm feeling - because its that weird feel-it-in my-cervix sensation, which I just can't think of other reasons for. Baby is also measuring ahead, so she's bigger than my actual weeks number suggests. I've continued to feel it off and on (maybe just once or twice a day).

@EmilyLove25 I also signed up for it at my last appointment. I think I must have had it with my last pregnancy, but I honestly do not remember doing it.

  • I finally have a legitimate question.

This weekend H and I have an opportunity to go on a trail ride through the woods. I’m currently 16 weeks. Would you do it?

I rode/showed horses when I was younger (grew up on a horse farm, even had my own horse). Although It’s been a while since I’ve ridden... I feel totally fine about going, but H is really freaking out. The horses go slowly and I talked to the resort about it and they said it’s fine with them as long as I’m comfortable with it. It’s not like we will be galloping through the woods.
  • @miss.sally, I feel like the guidelines are too overprotective. For example, there is a ton of info about not riding bikes that aren’t stationary in pregnancy, but the dangers are really from falling. I feel very comfortable on a bike and my OB’s POV is to stop riding when I feel unsteady. Based on your familiarity with horses, how early you still are, and the slow and steady nature of the ride, it’s hard to imagine how you’d be doing any damage. Riding in a car is super risky, but no one ever tells you not to do that 🤷🏼‍♀️
  • @miss.sally ha, I'm a horse person (have been riding, showing, and owning horses since I was 7), and I refuse to ride while I'm pregnant. I'm probably being overly cautious, but, unlike bikes, horses are unpredictable prey animals, so I decided that it was a risk I didn't want to take. Would simply riding a horse hurt the baby? Definitely not. Especially if you're a skilled enough rider to know how to post the trot and two-point while cantering/galloping. But falling from a horse (or anything for that matter) could. Or maybe its just because I'm PERFECTLY HAPPY to not have to ride for a while LOL.

  • @miss.sally so I’ll preface this with I try my best to be a rule follower during pregnancy in general (of course I’m only human and I’ve screwed up here and there on accident). Personally I don’t think I’d go horseback riding bc like @stassischroeder said horses, unlike bikes or cars, are animals and therefore have a mind of their own. This is probably extra true if you don’t know the horses. I know my cousin is really into riding horses and has been since a little girl and she’s gone on what was supposed to be an easy trail ride on vacation before and her horse got spooked and took off. She was ok but shook up a bit because it took a while to get the horse under control.

  • @miss.sally I'm mostly echoing what others have already said, but I think if it's a slow, calm ride, then it should be fine (especially since you have experience with horses).  That said, I tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to things that I can't control. You never know how horses will behave, so that would be my only concern.  But if you're comfortable with it, then by all means, go for it!

I am nervous to ride a freaking haunted hayride this year, lol.
  • @stassischroeder I totally get what you’re saying. My stepmom rode until she was 8 months, but she was/is a horse trainer so it was also part of her job. Horses can be spooked easily, and lord knows I’ve had my fair share of falls from horses for various reasons. Lol. I told H I want to go to the stables tomorrow and meet the horses and the instructor and talk to them and get a better idea of the type of horse/trail etc...
  • @miss.sally I'm honestly probably being overly cautious. I struggled for 14 cycles to get KU with #1, so once I was finally KU, I decided there was absolutely no way I was going to risk it. And, for the sake of full transparency, a lot of the horses I was being asked to ride at that time had behavioral issues (that I was supposed to help fix), so double HELL NO to that. I will say, though, that a lot of riding accidents happen when people are on reliable horses that they trust, or doing activities that are supposed to be "easy," so they let their guard down and bad things happen. There's just no guarantee when dealing with prey animals. But, on the same token, there's no guarantee anytime you drive a car either!  Lastly, my husband has never been a fan of horses, and would have a huge problem with me riding while pregnant. So obviously that makes a difference in my decision too.

  • @stassischroeder totally understandable. It has been a reallllllly long time since I’ve ridden. I’m still unsure. It’ll probably end up being a no. But I’m going to go snuggle the horses either way 😂

It took us 20-something cycles to conceive also. More than two years. I lost count.  Did you have to use any medications? We ended up conceiving DS on a cycle of letrozol. We tried a few others also without success. And then this time it happened before we started trying. Go figure.
  • @miss.sally we got lucky and got KU during the last phase of IF testing - DS is an HSG baby. I didn't appear to have any blockages, but maybe they cobwebs just needed to be cleared out  :D Also, we realized right before labor with DS that I had cervical scar tissue, which could've also contributed to our struggle to conceive.
