Baby is the size of a(n): Head of cauliflower... I feel like this is the first / closest to accurate in size.
Upcoming Appointments: Sept 17 Midwife & Glucose and then 9/24 for PT follow up
How are you feeling?: I'm getting a cold! And it's horrible. I had a ton of energy this weekend though which was really nice! I was able to get a ton of laundry done, clean, go to the grocery store, and do a ton of baking yesterday all while having toddler in tow and husband out on a long distance mountain bike ride. I have been having Charley horses in my hip still every night. I'm starting to think it may be related to my sciatica but it doesn't feel like it usually does when it flares up.
Rants/Raves: I told my husband last week that one of my biggest worries right now is that I'm going to go into labor in the middle of the night and we're going to have to have a friend come over to stay with our daughter and the house will be destroyed. I've been working really hard on keeping it clean and I *THINK* he's finally getting the hint to help!
Rave: 100 days until my due date!!!
Questions:
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? I hate when people clear their throat rather than just cough. I have a co-worker that does this constantly and one day I may just snap at her.
25 weeks! I can't believe we're almost to the third trimester!
Team Green
Upcoming Appointments: Finally done with all my Ultrasounds haha...now just regular checkups every 4 weeks or so. Glucose test end of Sept.
How are you feeling?: I feel pretty good other than my knuckles being super sore like I said at night and when I wake up...such a weird symptom!
Rants/Raves: I survived a college tailgate this weekend up in Wisconsin! My back did start to hurt so I made my husband promise to rub it but he is so bad at rubbing... so that is annoying me, I really need his full attention when it comes to my back pain! But he is trying so I guess I can't complain too much. I hope you ladies are all feeling well! I feel like we only have a little of time left before we really start feeling like shit again so lets soak it all up! haha
Questions: Does anyone wanna be my real life friend on instagram now or after baby is born? I don't do facebook but I dont wanna just forget all of you!
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy?
- People being unaccountable, late or unorganized with plans or when it comes to events - People having greasy hair - People ignoring texts or phone calls, everyone is on their phone 24/7, like come on. - People who constantly are checking their phones or scrolling through social media when around friends/family - When people have a loud-ass screaming sneeze but dont cover it up with their arm and it hurts my ear drums
I mean I could go on but those are some that come to mind lol!
Upcoming Appointments: 3h glucose test tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I'm going to fail, my 1h test results were extremely close to the point of skipping the 3h and going straight to a diagnosis. Also my OB consultation for the ovarian cyst is on Thursday
How are you feeling?: So sore at night despite the "Fortress of Soft-itude" I've built out of pillows. Also really stressing about the possibility of GD, not because of the diagnosis itself, but the consequences of it. If diet doesn't control it, I don't want to have to transfer care away from my midwife team, and I'm already worried enough about being able to do this 10 week contract for work without adding in extra health complications and additional appointments/ultrasounds that will need to be scheduled.
Rants/Raves: I'm just mad at myself. I should have looked for a regular 9-5 job about 6 to 10 months earlier than I did to make sure I was able to bank enough insurable hours for maternity benefits. I really didn't think that it would be so hard to get an administrative assistant job for a few months once I actually got pregnant. And I'm extremely grateful that this 10 week contract within my industry came up, but it will JUST cover enough hours for me, and I'm freaking out now that some health complication is going to come up that keeps me from completing it. Or that the schedule will change (as TV often does) or baby will come early, or any myriad of things that will leave me just a little bit short for being eligible.
Questions: I guess I have a bunch of questions about dealing with GD, but most of them will be covered by my midwife if it turns out I actually have it. Like, how do you test whether or not diet is controlling it? Do you have a blood glucose monitor at home or after a couple weeks do you go back to the lab for another blood test?
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? I hate when people have a runny nose and just constantly sniffle instead of using a tissue. My husband is horrible for this but claims that "it works better" that way.
Est Due Date/Weeks + Days: 12/17 - 26 weeks tomorrow = holy 98 days until my due date!
Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Green
Baby is the size of a(n): prairie dog (sorry I know ppl hate this question!)
Upcoming Appointments: 9/19 - routine OB and glucose test
How are you feeling?: my jaw is finally not sore after this root canal - but besides that baby is great. baby must be really growing b/c I feel hungrier, like back to first few weeks level of hungry - anyone else feel that way?
Rants/Raves: rave: found my baby shower dress yesterday (fingers crossed it still fits in 4 weeks) and got alllllllll of our art hung in our house. husband has been working up a storm on the outside projects, and we need to measure for kitchen renovation next. yesterday was our 7th wedding anniversary, even though we celebrated labor day weekend, I decided to do a post on social media with the photos we took in New Mexico - lots of love and congrats, which was overwhelming and amazing.
Questions: see above about being hungry
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? people who chew/eat with their mouth open and/or loudly. it's to the point that I have to walk away it bothers me that much.
Est Due Date/Weeks + Days: 12/19 - 25 weeks, 4 days
Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: girl!
Baby is the size of a(n): cauliflower. With a footprint the size of AAA batteries
Upcoming Appointments: 9/20 ultrasound and 1hr glucose test
How are you feeling?: Mostly good, but I hate sleeping! I'm surrounded by stuff in bed - cat, pillow, husband, belly, comforter... and it makes me feel trapped! Bring on the sleepless nights of a newborn. At least I'll be comfortable when I'm in bed.
Rants/Raves: My husband is great. Just generally. This pregnancy has been really fun for us together. Also, I'm kind of into my bellaband. It opens up a whole new world of pant options without me needing to buy more maternity pants that inevitably get bunched up or slip down uncomfortably.
Questions: are we there yet?
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? I hate when people commit to doing something and then bail at the last minute. If you don't have time or capacity to take it on, just be honest!
Est Due Date/Weeks + Days: 12/18, 26 weeks on Wednesday. Team Pink! Baby is the size of a(n): Napa Cabbage according to my other pregnancy app. Upcoming Appointments: Tomorrow I have an appt with an OB that works with my OB (he is out of town). Still experiencing trouble with nausea and vomiting in an extreme manner. I'm finally going to ask why I haven't been diagnosed with HG when I have all the symptoms! 😤 I also need to try and make it into a lab to do my 1 hour test. How are you feeling?: Honestly a little defeated. When all the most powerful anti nausea drugs don't work 100% of the time it sucks. I struggle with being able to work even from home, can't ride in a car without getting violently sick, can't even go to the grocery store or movie theater with my husband. I love my baby and am so happy she is doing good. But December can get here asap for all I'm concerned. See above for rant lol. Rave - Grape juice. It isn't too acidic, no caffeine, no carbonation and I seem to be keeping it down better then water 🤞 GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? Rude people! Examples- *when you hold a door for someone and they either ignore you or give you a dirty look instead of smiling or saying thanks. *when you thank someone and they ignore you * cutting people off in traffic, tailgating, blocking intersections right before the lights change so those with a green light can't go because your dumb car is in the way! *Saying mean or spiteful things to get a reaction instead of trying to be understanding. (Don't roll your eyes or say something nasty to a mom at the grocery store because her kid is crying or acting out. You have no idea if they have a condition that makes going out hard for them. Or if they are just having a bad day.) I could go on for hours so I'll stop here.
Upcoming Appointments: tomorrow for 24 week check up and to schedule glucose test
How are you feeling?: Still having morning sickness that is somewhat controlled by medicine, heartburn that tums is not touching, and awful back pain...gonna ask OB for suggestions tomorrow to help
Rants/Raves: Our Mother's Day Out program started back last week and while I am glad to be working until the baby comes I have days (like today) where I seriously wish I would've just said I can't help this year. I work with 6 kiddos that are 14 months to 2 years old so lots of crying, diaper changing, and constantly up & down all day. But my DS is doing better in his class so there is my rave lol
Questions: Any suggestions on how to relieve back pain?? I've tried 2 different belly bands but they just aggravate me instead of help.
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? Grown ups acting like they have no clue what they did wrong, even when they have been told several times before, then playing victim like they have been "attacked"
@Peachie89 have you had your posture checked? I had major back pain issues with my daughter and it turned out to be due to my posture - and not just from my hips but also my feet. This time around I've been a lot more conscious about it and have had minimal issues so far.
Baby is the size of a(n): ...bottle of Clorox wipes??
Upcoming Appointments: Just had my glucose test today, have my first midwife appointment tomorrow (yay!!). Really hoping it goes well, otherwise we're switching to the other hospital in town.
How are you feeling?: Shockingly, pretty good. Minor symptoms every day, but nothing worth complaining about, honestly.
Rants/Raves: Two raves!! My husband finally felt the baby kick last night!! It was the first time anyone other than me felt the baby, and also apparently the first time he'd EVER felt a baby kick in a stomach before! So cool! (This is after 3 weeks of him trying, but we just couldn't get the timing right!) Also, my husband (who's been working out of town a lot the last few weeks, and who doesn't often do this kind of thing) came home last week with a beautiful fall arrangement of flowers and a beautiful card for me to congratulate me on my first week back at school. The note in his card was so sweet I cried. I love that man!
Questions:
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? I'm with @mrszoobear -- rude or inconsiderate people. I really can't stand when someone is being thoughtless, especially when it ends up causing more work for someone else.
Est Due Date/Weeks + Days: December 16th, 26 weeks
Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Green
Baby is the size of a(n): One site said acorn squash and the bump said kale???
Upcoming Appointments: Regular midwife appt tomorrow, 1 hour glucose sometime this week (which I expect to fail since I had GD last time)
How are you feeling?: I feel good besides hip/back pain that comes and goes.
Rants/Raves: just worried about having GD again cause I just discovered peanut butter Chex and I want to keep eating it every night!
Questions:
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? I get angry when I see people leave their shopping carts in parking spaces when there is a cart return!!! Put the cart back!! It’s so inconsiderate.
@CapricaAndrea you know if diet is controlling your GD because you test first thing in the morning with a home reader and you test one hour after each meal. If your numbers stay below where your doctor wants them, then you’re diet controlled. If your numbers are elevated even though you’ve changed your diet (increase protein, cut the carbs, avoid potatoes, rice, pasta, white bread, sugar) then that’s when they need to consider medication. I was able to control it last time with diet alone.
@CapricaAndrea you’ll test at home with a glucometer. I do fasting (first thing in the AM) and two hours after every meal. I count carbs. So each meal and snack has a limit. I do take meds but only an oral med so far. Last time I went on insulin. I really didn’t/don’t have a ton of additional appointments because of GD. Some extra growth scans at the end to check size. Also many docs will induce around 39 weeks for GD.
Im happy to answer more questions. I am on my second go round with GD.
How are you feeling?: Still good overall. Hip still hurts at night. Hormones have been a little touchy, and I forgot that I need to make travel plans for two days this week...so pregnancy brain has really caught up to me I guess? I will be fine, just didn't realize I was going to be gone all week. I feel a little bad about being away from DH.
Rants/Raves: my house is fully primed! I have workshops this week for a new play!
Questions: what do you do when you are up in the middle of the night?
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? Repetitive noises like cutlery tapping on plates or someone tapping a desk or my chair.
Est Due Date/Weeks + Days: 25w2d Dec 22 (but will be induced around Dec 16th)
Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Blue
Baby is the size of a(n): based on the pain and the discomfort the size of a toddler
Upcoming Appointments: Friday September 13, routine OB
How are you feeling?: See above...very uncomfortable (short torso leaves little room for baby). And tired.
Rants/Raves:
Questions: Not right now
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy?
Driving slow in the fast lane, consistent inability to follow procedure at work, and my husband's inability to finish the dishes (I swear every time he does the dishes he overlooks a few)
@ashorkey I asked OB today and she said posture looked fine but since the brace she recommends is not helping she is gonna send me to physical therapy which I'm fine with if it gives me some relief. @Stac928 I totally feel the same way about the baby being as big as a toddler!!
Upcoming Appointments: tomorrow with the perinatologist for another cervix length check
How are you feeling?: I feel better than I have in a while! I had my appointment with the oncologist Monday and asked ALLLL of the nitty gritty detail questions I had about getting chemo. I feel informed enough now to start making some tentative plans. Just need to get my perinatologist tomorrow to start nailing down a date for induction. And fingers crossed my cervix is still looking ok! Also, I think we’ve landed on a name for our little guy - Vaughn! It’s really sticking for both my husband and me.
Rants/Raves: So many raves! This past weekend was supposed to be my baby shower in WI that was cancelled because I can’t travel. My cousin that was planning it set everything up at her house and took all these pictures and made a really sweet video to send me. It totally made me cry. She’s also apparently sending me all the decorations for the nursery (like a million stuffed animals, wall hangings and a teepee)! Then on Sunday a group of my friends from back in Chicago organized a virtual baby shower - across three time zones and four stares! They even sent ahead sweets and decorations that my husband hung up in secret. Lastly, my husband has just been amazing. We set up the crib together and organized all the gifts we’ve gotten so far this weekend. Which really just means he put the crib together while I read the directions and he broke down a million cardboard boxes. After all that he asked me so sincerely if there was anything more he could be doing for me right now. I almost cried - he’s already so above and beyond I can’t even imagine what more there could be.
Questions: those of you that have been put on any kind of pelvic floor rest (really meaning you can’t have sex) - how have you survived??? I’m looking at no sex from July (first surgery) through Feb/March (end of chemo) and I might lose my mind! I’m sure my husband feels the same. And with the short cervix, up until the baby comes there’s nothing to be done solo either. 😉 I never thought of myself as needing it THAT badly, but it’s killing me a little. Any coping strategies? I’ve just been trying to be extra cuddly with my husband - he’s loving all the extra back scratching. 😂
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? Victim mentality - it drives me actually insane.
@lucylivesinwa Awwwww, your friends and your husband are all so sweet, that sounds amazing!! As for no sex, are you able to do non-internal sexual activity? There are lots of external stimulation toys and activities that could work in the meantime.
@KTZ17 and @Stac928 Thank you so much for answering me. I haven't officially heard from my midwife yet, but I can see my results online and if I'm reading them right, I passed my 2h test! (*sidenote, apparently in Canada its 2h, not 3h. One draw after fasting, then at 1h and 2h).
@CapricaAndrea I think the two hour is becoming more common. In fact, more recent literature suggests going straight to the two hour test. The one hour has a ton of false positives. Some docs skip it altogether and go for the two hour.
@Stac928 I knew logically that the 1h had lots of false positives, but despite only eating eggs and cheese that morning my result was so close to the point of straight diagnosis instead of additional testing that I was completely preparing myself to fail this one too. Like I literally bought different foods at the grocery store this week so I’d have high-protein/low-carb things to eat, which i guess is still beneficial anyway 😆
Upcoming Appointments: 10/4 for 28wk appt and 1-hr glucose screen; 10/11 for growth scan
How are you feeling?: I’m tired and emotional. I’m feeling super run down to be honest. With school starting, I am running from drop off, to work, to pick up to all the after-school activities including gymnastics, cub scouts, baseball (for both kids), and therapy. DH was having car trouble yesterday, so that was another issue I had to deal with. Plus tomorrow night is Back-to-School night and Friday night is a school event that I am co-chairing and have so much to do for. Add a major home renovation to this mix and I just feel like I can’t catch my breath.
Rants/Raves: See above.
Questions: Has anyone been cracking open the occasional glass of wine yet? Maybe I’ll be the first, because I’m ready.
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? Too many to list but some that stand out are chewing with your mouth open @anniemarie887, and not bringing your grocery cart in @KTZ17!
@lucylivesinwa - Having a high sex drive and not being able to do it sucks! I was on no sex, zero orgasm restriction my whole first tri starting at 6 weeks because of implantation bleeding. It was just to be on the safe side because I was already at a higher risk of miscarriage in the 1st tri. So we had to follow it.
My tips are - avoid sexy shows, movies, books and songs. If it makes you think about sex, move on. Also, keep yourself distracted with work, nesting or hobbies. I put in a lot of overtime until the 14 week mark. It helped that I was so exhausted when I got home I barely wanted to do anything but sleep. But that's just what worked for me. I can't remember if they have you off work right now, sorry if that tip ends up being invalid.
I guess this is where I update with how my OB consultation went? Long story short, we're just keeping an eye on the cyst for now. She's sending me for another ultrasound and some extra bloodwork, and I go back in 2.5 weeks. If the cyst hasn't gotten any bigger, then we just put it on the back burner for now and continue the pregnancy as normal. If it has gotten bigger, she recommends doing a transfer of care away from my midwife to her, due to the increased risk of needing a c-section. Ugh...
Not only do I hope to avoid a c-section, but I really, really do not want to transfer to an OB, and today's appointment really reaffirmed that for me. There were a lot of reasons I chose a midwife in the first place and they haven't changed. The office layout/appointment experience alone was enough. I'm used to my appointments being on time, both with my current midwife and my whole previous pregnancy at a completely different practice. Today I was in a crowded waiting room for over 30 minutes past my appointment time (which was still before 9:30 am!), the desk is so close to the chairs that pregnant women talking to reception literally had to stop and move to the end of the desk for there to be enough room for other patients to walk by. Then they had my name spelled wrong on all the paperwork I need, and they couldn't get it to print properly so it was almost 80 minutes past my scheduled appointment by the time I was actually able to leave. I can't be doing that every 2 weeks once I start this contract in the city (which is approx a 1 hour commute to get to)
So fingers crossed this stupid cyst is disappearing on its own.
@mrszoobear Thank you for these tips!! I’ve been doing my best to keep super busy. I go back to work the week after next, which I think will really help. My husband and I are just trying to keep upbeat about it. Jokes like “I remember really enjoying sex - can’t wait to do it again one day” are keeping us going. 😁
@CapricaAndrea I’m so sorry the OB office sucked so much! I’m obviously pretty biased, but I’d recommend keeping super on top of the cyst with ultrasounds. Even if it it’s benign (which is super likely) if it grows and then twists or ruptures it can be incredibly painful. That’s what happened to me when I was 15. And if it does get bigger there is for sure a higher chance of needing a c-section. Are there any other OB offices you could check out that would maybe have a more pleasant experience? Crossing my fingers and sending good vibes your way that the cyst goes away on it’s own!
@lucylivesinwa I definitely don't want to compromise any care when it comes to the cyst, and my midwife chose this OB specifically, so I'll probably stick with her if I do have to be transferred. I'm just really frustrated at the idea of having to switch away from a midwife in the first place because they're so hard to get in this area and I feel like I already won a sort of lottery getting my first choice.
@CapricaAndrea - fingers crossed for you! Would you consider adding a doula to your care if you had to go with the ob? @lucylivesinwa - glad you got some tips and that you and your DH are able to find some humor! Wishing you the best!
@jandawg I believe that even if I do transfer, i can request to have a midwife at the birth as well, sort of a joint care situation. I like the idea of doulas in general, but we had a not so great experience with ours the first time around, so there's no way I could convince my husband we should spend the money on one again.
@CapricaAndrea - I love the idea of keeping a dual care option. It’s so important to have someone who’s mentally on the same page as you and it sounds like you totally have that in your midwife. Good to have all the medical monitoring as well and if you do end up seeing the OB a lot, maybe a chat with her about your expectations - saw your other post and I hate that she would insinuate something you are doing is incorrect just because it wasn’t the easiest. I’m still really hopeful it go away on its own and you won’t have to deal with it though!!
Adding another Pet Peeve to my post from yesterday ... People who don’t “reply all” on business emails. If you drop someone off the email thread, and I add them back on when I replay, then Reply All, dipshit!
I only work part-time so need the owner copied on 99% of my emails, so he can follow-up when I’m not here.
@CapricaAndrea I'm sorry the experience at the OBs office was so frustrating. That's rough. See if your midwife had a reason for this OB specifically. Maybe share your concerns and she may have alternative suggestions.
@lucylivesinwa I'm not on pelvic rest this time (knock on wood) but I was last time because of placenta previa. I couldn't do anything solo and I was kinda out of luck for the most part but we found other alternative enjoyable activities that accomplished the goal for him. Not ideal but it was enjoyable and kept us connected.
@CapricaAndrea i legit just read an article today about how most of the world breastfeeds until age 4. i would've given that ob a solid middle finger. sorry
Sorry if this is a repeat of info @CapricaAndrea, I’m just now starting to read the responses.
You get a glucometer and you check your blood sugars in the morning before food, then 2 hr after ever meal. If you can control via diet, no meds needed. If you can’t likely will get insulin. I think my nutritionist and high risk dr liked to see a weeks data before deciding. Typically you want your fasting to be under 95 and after meals to be under 120. Good luck!
@McKBaby you won’t have me beat on the wine but you can join me! I’ll have a small glass once a week or once every two weeks.
Est Due Date/Weeks + Days: mid-late December

It isn't too acidic, no caffeine, no carbonation and I seem to be keeping it down better then water 🤞
GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy?
Rude people! Examples-
*when you hold a door for someone and they either ignore you or give you a dirty look instead of smiling or saying thanks.
*when you thank someone and they ignore you
* cutting people off in traffic, tailgating, blocking intersections right before the lights change so those with a green light can't go because your dumb car is in the way!
*Saying mean or spiteful things to get a reaction instead of trying to be understanding. (Don't roll your eyes or say something nasty to a mom at the grocery store because her kid is crying or acting out. You have no idea if they have a condition that makes going out hard for them. Or if they are just having a bad day.)
I could go on for hours so I'll stop here.

Baby is the size of a(n): pomegranate

Im happy to answer more questions. I am on my second go round with GD.

Baby is the size of a(n): corn cob?
Upcoming Appointments: none this week

Baby is the size of a(n): Ear of corn

@lucylivesinwa - glad you got some tips and that you and your DH are able to find some humor! Wishing you the best!

Good luck!

Baby is the size of a(n): no clue
Upcoming Appointments: I keep canceling and rescheduling due to my work schedule. I did my glucose test though and passed.
How are you feeling?: not too bad until I eat something spicy which I crave all the time and I have heart burn to the max.
Rants/Raves: I think this is my last full week of working nights which is great. I’m loving the fall weather that we are finally starting to get!

GTKY: What bad habits of other people drive you crazy? I feel like I’ve become more tolerant about a lot of things that used to drive me batty. I guess my biggest one at the moment is when people don’t take responsibility for their own actions and put the blame on other things/people.
