Question from May BMB TW: possible loss mentioned

Hi Ladies,

I hope you all are doing well! I’m popping in from May BMB to ask a question since you are all so much further along. I hope that’s ok. My EDD is 5/1, I know the exact day I ovulated. I was experiencing some spotting and cramping last week so dr ordered HCG bloods and U/S. Bloods came back great at 15,600 and we saw a little HB although baby was measuring 4 days behind. Usually that would be fine, but I know when I O’d for sure. I was dated at 6wks but should’ve been 6w4d. Anyway, I was ok with that. Even though everything looked ok, dr still ordered another HCG. It wasn’t good. I went from 15,600 to 18,000 in 4 days!!! Dr can’t confirm whether or not I’m going to M/C, just that it’s not normal. Going in for another U/S on Tuesday. I know hearing success stories in this situation doesn’t mean I’m going to have a positive outcome, but I’m just curious if any of you experienced the same thing? HB detected but HCG very slow rising? Thank you in advance!

**lurking from March** doubling HCG is a worthless indicator for a healthy pregnancy after about 5 weeks. after that, it's all U/S measurement for progression. hope this helps.

  • HCG is a bit concerning, but O date doesn't necessarily mean that's how far along you are. If it implanted a little late that could account for the difference. Also, at that small it can be hard to get an accurate measurement sometimes. Seeing the heartbeat is a really good sign.
I'll hope for you that it turns out okay.

  • I've always measured 5 days behind on my first u/s and then was right on track after that.  I read somewhere that early u/s can be off by as much as 7 days.
  • Thank you ladies. I wasn’t worried about the dating until the HCG came back. Then I over googled and upset myself even more. I’ll stay cautiously optimistic and only time will tell. It’s out of my hands. This would be my 6th loss.
  • Have you seen a high risk doctor about your losses? I had 2 before DS and went to see a doctor who put me on a regimen of heparin injections and aspirin as he suspected APS, or basically throwing clots that block the blood from getting to the fetus. I lost one in between DS and this pregnancy, but it was very early and I didn't have time to start on my injections before I lost it.

  • @mflowers929 I haven’t, they suspect it’s due to chromosomal abnormalities due to my “advanced maternal age”, I’m 41 and SO is 46.
