How do they feel about the pregnancy? He is super excited. What are they looking forward to the most? Probably feeling the baby move more regularly. He has already felt it a few times.
Are they being helpful? So helpful
Will the go to your appointments/ boring classes with you? All the ultrasounds and so far all my OB appointments, though I might be going to my OB alone today for the first time.
Do they have any concerns about becoming a father? If he does, he hasn't said.
Any words of encouragement you've given to them? I tell him all the time what a great dad he is and how lucky baby and I are to have him.
ETA It turns out his last meeting of the day ends an hour earlier than he thought so he is coming with me today! I would have been fine going alone, but was feeling a bit anxious about it for some reason. Now I am not. Apparently my husband is my security blanket. 😂
He is very excited but also very nervous! His anxiety levels before any appointment are high as he is afraid something is going to go wrong. He can't sleep days before an appointment! He is going to most appointments with me. He was there for the 8-week scan and will be there for the anatomy scan. He talks to the baby everyday. Every morning, he says he loves her He wants to be very involved.
TTC#1 10/2018: MFI (2 SA under 9 million/ml) 11/2018: HSG shows right Fallopian tube slightly damaged 1/2019: Husband diagnosed with grade 3 varicocele 4/05/2019: varicocele repair surgery 6/13/2019: BFP!!! EDD: 2/22/2020 Baby girl born 2/27/2020 7/18/2019: Total Motile Count at 3 months post surgery = 51 millions!! (number must be >20 millions to conceive naturally).
@rikiteacup My husband talks to our baby every day too and tells him or her that he loves them. Last night he had this long conversation with it about all the musical instruments it can learn when it is bigger, because it seems to be very into music. It is so sweet!
I just realized I forgot to answer my own questions Haha
Who all has partner who is a first time dad? Mine is!
How do they feel about the pregnancy? Hes not super expressive and didnt have the reaction inhoped for when I told him, but in his words "well it's what we were trying for!" But he's very excited and got teary when I sent him the first ultrasound pictures and when we had our 12 week ultrasound
What are they looking forward to the most? Having a cute little baby haha Also the baby is the first grandchild in his family, so in think he's looking forward to that aspect too
Are they being helpful? Definitely. He makes sure I do my walking for the day and taking my medication/vitamins.
Will the go to your appointments/ birthing classes with you? I told him he didn't need to come to every appointment except the ultrasounds! And I hope we can find birthing classes that work with his schedule. It would be nice to have him there!
Do they have any concerns about becoming a father? Just the standard providing for baby ones
Any words of encouragement you've given to them? I tell him all the time he's going to be a great dad, and that our cat has been good practice Haha!
@rikiteacup My husband said hes going to make sure baby likes metal music and I might wake up with headphones on my belly with some of his music blasting to baby. Haha
How do they feel about the pregnancy? My husband is really thrilled! He was anxious when we were trying that it might not work. He had medical issues when he was younger that required heavy steroid treatments to fight off infection. It was a worry for him that it might have caused him to be unable to reproduce. Good news though - worked the first month!
What are they looking forward to the most? He’s always loved kids and playing with our nieces is one of his favorite things. So being able to raise his own little one is exciting to him.
Are they being helpful? Absolutely! He cooks dinner almost every night, and he’s always making sure I’m taking my vitamins, going on walks at lunch, and in general that I’m comfortable.
Will the go to your appointments/birthing classes with you? Yep! I told him he didn’t have to go to all my appointments because they’re usually mid afternoon and leaving work early for him is a challenge. But he always shows up, even if he’s half running through the door. It’s important to him to be a part of it all, especially the ultrasound appointments.
Do they have any concerns about becoming a father? I think he’s just nervous about providing, just like most husbands and fathers. He’s also slightly stressed about caring for a newborn while having the use of only one arm (also due to his childhood medical issues. He has both arms still, the right one just has a permanent tremor and he has no use of his hand.) He’s worried about holding them safely and changing diapers. I think he’ll be just fine though, he just has to learn the best way for him.
Any words of encouragement you've given to them? I always tell him he’s going to be an awesome daddy and his worries will go away once he holds them the first time. I can’t wait for that moment ❤️

How do they feel about the pregnancy? We went through fertility treatments aand one chemical pregnancy, so we were both very cautious in our initial excitement. The further along we get with everyone looking good, the more excited he gets. He’s a big tough guy who isn’t very effusive in his emotions but I can tell he’s pretty excited and it’s cute.
What are they looking forward to the most? According to him, the part where I become as big as a house
Are they being helpful? So helpful. I told him just last nights how much I appreciate everything he’s doing to help out.
Will they go to your appointments/birthing classes with you? He has come to all my US and OB appointments so far. He may miss some of the future US appointments because watching the screen makes him motion sick, poor guy!
Do they have any concerns about becoming a father? He is cool as a cucumber. He helped raise his younger siblings so a lot of the basics like diaper changing etc he’s already familiar with.
Any words of encouragement you've given to them? I just try to tell him as often as I can how much I appreciate him and how great our family is going to be
(This thread can now be merged with “why my pregnant self is crying” because everyone’s responses and reflecting on my husband’s involvement has me tearing up at lunch!)
@Swiftlet same with the tearing up! It's so sweet to hear about everyone's SOs and how excited they are to be fathers. My H is like yours, big ole tough guy exterior but a teddy bear interior. I knew from watching him play with our cat that he's gonna make a great daddy to a human baby lol
DH is such a cute guy. I was telling him my SIL posted a video of her singing "You are my sunshine" to my 3 year old nephew like she's the only person who's ever sang it. He responded by saying he had been listening to some Ukrainian music and lullabies he's looking forward to singing to baby. My heart melted!

What are they looking forward to the most? Probably just being a dad, finally.
Are they being helpful? Yes, he has been great. He's jumping in on the chores that I usually do which is great on my "off days".
Will the go to your appointments/birthing classes with you? Yes, he plans on being a part of it all!
Do they have any concerns about becoming a father? He hasn't shown concern.
Any words of encouragement you've given to them? Not really. He seems quite confident? LOL
